How long did the Great Depression last?

< The Great Depression was a massive global economic recession (or "depression") that ran from 1929 to 1941. It led to massive bank failures, high unemployment, as well as dramatic drops in GDP, industrial production, stock market share prices and virtually every other measure of economic growth. It bottomed out in 1933, but it would be well after World War II before such indicators as industrial production, share prices and global GDP could surpass their 1929 levels.

I have had a friend who also has depression, and it runs in his family also. He has told me that in the majority of the cases of his family, the depression has gone from adolescence to 20 - 30, with one case of it lasting until 50.

How long does depression last?

If your depression is, indeed, a genetic predisposition; for instance, if you have biological issues with serotonin production or the ability to take up serotonin at the receptors in your brain, your depression is with you for your life. There are many chemical reasons that a person may suffer from depression beyond a few weeks of sadness due to a life event. That is where I stand. I have a form of depression that is passed through my family from generation to generation. Try as I might, no amount of trying to feel "happy" or seeking out places and events that could make me feel better had any lasting effect. Reading the right books, doing the right self-talk, proper nutrition, exercise, avoiding things I knew could be bad for my mood...all those things each had a tiny degree of success, but even when all added up, I was still depressed more often than not. When it got to the point I could not live a normal life...for the THIRD time in my adult life(!)...I finally sought outside help. My physician finally explained to me that I had a "condition" as real and as treatable as diabetes. It was a chemical issue in my brain and I needed to target that. With their help, I found a medication that helped (and still helps) immensely! After a few of weeks of treatment, a great deal of the gray fog of existence lifted and I could see some light again. I could begin facing things I needed to accomplish (for work, for family, for me) without feeling so totally overwhelmed. I began to regain my sense of humor and my sense of hope. I became "Me" again.Having just wrapped up my 2nd decade after seeking help, I still find myself in battles with depression from time to time. Because I am armed with knowledge and know better now when and how to ask for help, the battles no longer completely disable me as they once did. I may be occasionally forced to my knees, but I can get back up and move on.

How long does postpartum depression last?

Hi....I just couldn't help but strongly notice your question and especially your test result for the 'POSITIVE ANA'. Has your doctor said anything to you about SLE,or Systemic Lupus? About 95% of patients test positive for SLE,with a positive ANA result. This would explain your symptoms, getting angry(irritable)for no apparent reason, and especially having NO energy and of course depression. These all play a role in having SLE or Systemic Lupus, and there are of course the physical aspects of SLE also, which are pain(which can be severe at times) muscle weakness, malaise. It sucks that you have NO insurance, have you tried applying for any type of medicaid? They do also have spin-downs for people on a limited income,I'm NOT saying that you have SLE,but a positive ANA could suggest this.Did you ask your doctor what your tests results meant?May I ask? Why would you even think or say negative things to yourself for feeling the way you do? It's apparent you have a medical condition(test results prove this),so there is NO reason for you to feel think this way dear,ok?Also, your a full time mother for goodness sakes I applaud you for that!! I suggest you go or even call your doctor(calling will lower your chances of getting a bill),and ask what those test results mean.I do wish you all the very best and hope that you feel better very soon.I also suggest that you try to get as much rest as you possibly can,ok?

Smoking isn’t good specially for people who smoke for long time.Tar in cigarettes coats the lungs and can cause lung and throat cancer in smokers. It is also responsible for the yellow—brown staining on smokers’ fingers and teeth.Carbon monoxide in cigarettes reduces the amount of oxygen available to the muscles, brain and blood. Over time this causes airways to narrow and blood pressure to rise, which can lead to heart attack and stroke.High levels of CO, together with nicotine, increase the risk of heart disease, hardening of the arteries and other circulatory problems.

This "condition" does not exist

For how long did the post break-up depression phase last for you? Did you come out stronger and happier after it was over?

Well, It depends on person to person. If you are going through a break-up then better feel the pain and try to express your feeling as much as you can like if you feel to cry then cry or if you feel to break things then have a fight with pillow. The best one works for me is writing everything and making drawings like school time. Draw anything.. Just keep moving the pen.. The more you express, the sooner you will recover from break-up pain.. In my case I did all the above.. And yes you can become happy even after break-upsP.S. learn and move forward in life
