How Long Does It Take For An Insurance Company To Contact After An Accident

Does the DMV contact your insurance company?

The DMV cannot contact your insurance company directly as there are thousands of companies out there - how will the DMV know which company you are using?

It is up to you to provide DMV with this information when requested, otherwise you could face a fine or points on your license. (Depending on which state you reside in.)

Will an insurance company contact police after an accident?

@ Goldfly. I'd be a low life to not continue to work and collect unemployment while sitting at home doing nothing while I collect free money.. Instead, I decided to contribute to society and continue to work and put $ into the unemployment jar, medicare etc & pay for people who are lazy or low life... In Hindsight, yea, I probably should've been finding a different mode of transportation but I didn't. I didn't lose my license because I'm a bad driver, I lost it because I blew a .1 which means 1 too many beers at a sporting event & made a bad judgement to drive.

Before you pass judgement and post something that doesn't help, think twice. YOUR POST DIDN"T HELP ME NOR ANYONE ELSE LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER!!!!

How long does it take for an insurance company to find out about a speeding ticket?

They may never learn of it. Most insurance companies are extremely cautious when taking on a new customer. However, once they have that customer they tend to focus more on the actual driving experience (aka accidents, payment history and or claims) rather than their Motor vehicle record.Motor vehicle records are expensive, therefore most companies do not routinely rerun your report each year, especially if you have a good record with the company. This is not true of every company, and it is not true if you have an unusual pattern of claims (My wife and I have had zero accidents in thirty years with one company, so I never worried when I got a speeding ticket a few years ago).Motor vehicle reports are extremely important when switching companies. They will run your report and get an accident record from a service which compiles claims data between companies. Most importantly they will usually run a credit report. This is probably the single most important factor in determining what your rate is, and for good reason. It is a better prediction of future claims experience than just about any other factor. But once again, most companies do not rerun credit reports on most existing customers.I recommend you find a good company with a good reputation (easily googled) and a fair rate compared to others. Then stick with that company until they lose your confidence (Which is hopefully never).

How long does it take for insurance companies to pay you after an accident?

If they just came and looked, they will have to run a valuation on it. Once they complete that (about a day if they don't use an outside vendor), they will call you with an offer. If you accept, they will send you a packet in the mail detailing everything you need to do (send your title, keys, sign some papers, etc). Once they receive that, they will send you a check. All in all, about a week to 10 days. Some companies (such as the one I work for) are starting to 'fast track' total loss settlements, in which you can have a check on the way within a day. Call your total loss adjuster and ask for a timeline.

Is it necessary to call my auto insurance company after an accident if I am at fault and have a collision-only coverage? If it is, why? I have already given the other driver my insurance information.

It’s best to call your insurance company, because chances are they will be notified by the other party and/or their insurance company. Your insurance company will need to confirm with you that what the other party is saying is all true and that there was no known preexisting damage on the other persons vehicle. Also, when you say “collision only” are you referring to property damage? Or actual collision coverage? If it’s the latter, collision covers your vehicle even if you’re at fault. You may have to pay a deductible but the fact that your vehicle is covered (if you have collision and not just property damage) is important to note. Property Damage coverage is the coverage your insurance company will use to take care of the other persons vehicle. To answer your question, yes you should still call because your insurance company will need to speak with you anyway in order to cover the other persons car and protect you.

How long does it take Insurance to get you your rental car after an accident?

I got in an accident on the 20th, not my fault, and now it's the 25th. My car is not drivable and is sitting in the repair shop lot. I was promised a rental car from the Insurance company. But It has been 5 days since the accident -- that's 5 days without a car and I commute! So how long does it usually take to get the rental? The Insurance has accepted liability and specifically told me I am entitled to a rental.

How long does someone have to make an insurance claim after an accident?

The good news is that you have filed a claim with YOUR insurance company to get the ball running. If you have full coverage on your car, your insurance company will repair minus your deductible. But in an auto accident, BOTH insurance companies have to talk to both drivers to verify who is at fault in this accident. You believe you are not at fault and have 3 witnesses which is in your favor. If these 3 witnesses were in your car, is not good since they are biased towards you vs 3 people who do not know you, then that is in your favor.

Now if this guy is at fault, he has no "incentive" to file a claim under his policy, his wife drive an hour to produce verification of insurance and will most likely pay more in premium when his policy renews if found at fault and they pay you. I know you are upset and rightfully should be, but until your insurance company talks to him and gets his statement, only then can they make a final decision if he is at fault or not. If they believe he is at fault, then YOUR insurance company will go after the other guys insurance or the guy personally if has no insurance, for any money they spent on your car which includes your deductible.

Now if they are stating to hold off on a rental, I am guessing you do not have rental coverage, and if so, they YOUR insurance company cannot pay for it. Only the other guys insurance company can pay or reimburse you for a rental if deemed he is at fault. If he has no insurance, then you would have to go after him later for it. But if your car is un-drivable and you need to get to work, then rent one but be prepared to pay for it out of pocket pending the final outcome of this accident.

Even during normal days w/out holidays, most insurance claims with both parties cooperating takes an average of a week to conclude. You are only at 1 day and expect that all of this be done now, so chill out and take your insurance company advice.

good luck

After an accident do you call the police or the your car insurance company first?

It depends on what type of accident you have.Single-vehicle accident with no casualties, no property damage and you can drive away: don’t call the police unless you’ve created a hazard for other motorists which you can’t clear away (e.g. mud on a blind corner). Take photos for evidence. Call your insurance company whenever’s convenient.Single-vehicle accident, no casualties, some property damage and you can drive away: as above, but you’ll need to advise your insurance company that you damaged another party’s property. You should try to find the property owner and make them aware that you have damaged their property. Exchange details.Single-vehicle accident, third-party casualty (e.g. pedestrian): whenever there are casualties, you must check them first, render assistance and call an ambulance if necessary. You must contact police within a certain amount of time which will be mandated by the road rules where you live. E.g. in New Zealand it’s within 24 hours: What should you do if you have a crash or accident? Take photos as evidence. Call your insurance company when it’s convenient or immediately if you need a tow truck. Don’t admit liability to the casualty.Multi-vehicle accident, no casualties. You wouldn’t usually need to report this to police, but you should take photos as evidence. Call your insurance company when it’s convenient. Don’t admit liability to the other driver, let the insurance companies battle it out.Multi-vehicle accident, third-party casualties. Render assistance first, then call police if they are needed in order to manage hazards like traffic that’s backed up; report it later if they’re not needed immediately. If you think the other driver committed a crime (e.g. is drunk or ran a red light) call police. Take photos as evidence. Call your insurance to get a tow truck if it’s necessary. Don’t admit liability to the other driver.Bear in mind that if you crash and damage another person’s property, other people may phone this to the police if they don’t see you attempting to find the person whose property you damaged so it’s important that you contact your insurance company with an honest assessment of what you have done.
