How Long Will It Take To Get Rid Of Fleas

How long does it take to get rid of fleas?

There are many treatments available to battle a flea infestation, but keep in mind that your battle will not be won overnight. In most cases, it will take at least three to four weeks to completely rid your dog of fleas, and you will need to stick it out for the long haul if you want your treatments to be effective. Since you will be battling those critters on many levels--from eggs to larvae to adult fleas--you will need multiple simultaneous treatments to get rid of the problem once and for all.

The flea drops seemed to have quit working on out little dog. The vet said the advantage and frontline and all could not work fast enough. Duu. We got a month long pill from the vet that killed fleas and all on her. We keep her hair cut short and she gets baths. We put baking soda on the carpet where she slept, that is where the fleas were, and left it on for about three hours. The soda dries the fleas out. And I vacuum real good. Her bedding was washed to get rid of the eggs and larvae, in case they were there. The baking soda was repeated in case the eggs hatched. We put soda down for precaution and odor before we vacuum.

Will salting my carpet help get rid of fleas and their larvae?

Actually, yes, salt will help get rid of fleas, but not salt straight from a salt shaker. You have to process the salt until it is ultra-fine. You can do this by putting it in a food processor or blender and letting the machine run until the salt you rub between your fingers is no longer gritty. You’re looking for the texture of talcum powder. Depending on your appliance it can take about 20 minutes for this to happen. Then you will want to get yourself a dust mask, and put it on. Super fine salt will aerosol easily and you don’t want it in your lungs. Place the salt-dust in a flour sifter or hand-held colander and give your whole house a good dusting. Be sure to get the dust between couch cushions and under furniture. Give the dust 48 hours to blow into all the crevices of your home and then vacuum well. Not only will this kill fleas, but it takes out spiders, earwigs, silverfish, and any other creepy crawly bug in your house. Here’s why: insects don’t have lungs. Insects get their oxygen through little tiny tubes all over their body called spiracles. As the insect moves its body, air is sucked into the spiracles and diffuses into the insect's body. When an insect encounters salt dust, the salt gets into their spiracles and dries them out. If you look at the Encyclopedia Britannica image of the flea, you can see the spiracles on the upper plates of the back. Although fleas dine on animals, they spend a significant amount of their lifecycle on the ground in carpet or cracks and crevices. Adult fleas jump onto the floor to lay eggs and the larvae of fleas are floorbound. The great thing about this method is that as long as you don’t inhale a cloud of salt dust when you are spreading it around, it is completely non toxic for your family and you. The downside is that if you have carpet, over time, the tiny crystals of salt may cause additional wear.

How long can fleas live without food, ways to get rid of fleas?

Fleas have an elaborate life cycle that you must stop to get rid of the fleas.

first, they start out as eggs that hatch into a kind of larval stage. These can feed on just about anything, including dirt and dust in your carpet, on bedding, etc. Eventually, they form a cocoon, not unlike a caterpillar does. The flea then matures in the cocoon. This can then lay dormant for months until something comes along and disturbs it (they can detect the slightest vibration). When this happens, they pop out of their cocoon and immediately go off in search of blood for food (you and your cat). They then mate and lay more eggs to repeat the life cycle.

Problem with a bomb or standard spray is that they don't kill the eggs or the cocoons, just the adult fleas. And, the chemicals don't linger to kill the fleas after they hatch. What you need is a flea spray with a chemical in it called Precor, which prevents the flea in the cocoon from maturing to the point where it can lay eggs. This then disrupts the life cycle. About a week after the first spraying, you spray again. This then kills whatever fleas are left and they're gone for the season.

Go to a pet store and look for Zodiac brand flea spray and look for the word Precor on the label. That's the only stuff that really works.

here is a way to get rid of them in the house and on pet.

IF YOUR HOUSE / cat HAS FLEAS….

I have a NATURAL remedy for getting rid of fleas in your house.
I DO NOT LIKE SPRAYING INSECTICIDE AROUND THE HOUSE.

Go to the Store and buy some 20 Mule Team BORAX. (you find it in the soap isle)
Then sprinkle it all over. Carpets, couch, bedding, pillows, PET BED’s, car, even wood floors.
I walk around on the floor so it gets down into the fibers. Rub your hand over the couch, etc.
(NOT ON YOUR PET!)

THEN VACUUME IT UP.

What Boax does is coats the eggs ... The eggs hatch deformed or unable to reproduce.
You will have to do this 2 or 3x about a week apart in order to get all the egg cycles.

Since I did this I no longer have fleas in the house. Since you vacuume it up it is not a danger to pets or children.

FOR YOUR PET. Use the topical flea killer that is on the market or wash with Dawn dish washing soap (make sure to rinse all soap out) and use a flea comb (this is also a head lice comb) especially for kittens or puppies who are too young to have insecticide put on them.
Kill the fleas that you find on the comb with soap or alcohol

How long does it take for Advantage to kill fleas?

Hi, I am Louanne and I own a bunch of cute puppies. I started this around a year back, and it is ever since then that I started learning and knowing more about these kinds of pests in dogs and cats. At first, I was totally shocked and surprised and really didn't know what to do as well, So what I thought was to find some way of getting rid of them. I started using the Generic Capstar, after a thorough research in the field of medicines for such deadly diseases. After using them, they began working out by killing fleas by paralysing them, causing them to die. Their effect lasted up to 24 hours and also they started working within the first 30 minutes as well.

How long does it take for fleas to die after treatment?

A heavy flea infestation can take 4 to 6 weeks before all are dead. Vacuuming everyday will speed up the process.
