Why were muslims and meccans fighting?
Muhammad and his early Muslim sahabah denounced the Polytheistic Pagan beliefs of the Mekkan merchants of the Quraysh tribes of the time. These people were all too eager to listen to the preaching by Muhammad until his denunciation of their beliefs and them as idolators. Muhammad's uncle Abu Talib who belonged to one of these tribes, the Banu Hashem, played a key role in keeping the Quraishite's at bay and minimize backlash, this was key as early Islam would have been extinguished otherwise. However, violence errupted when Muhammad and his followers continued to denounce Polytheism, but also attempted to bribe the Mekkan merchants with the promising of power over people and continuously threatened them with violence and hostility. One such case is the murder of Fatimah bt. Rabi-ah b. Badr - split in two with the use of camels. Or the Christian al-Rumahis b. Mansur, beheaded. Not only is this recorded in the Jewish and Pagan sources of the time, but also by Islamic scholars such as Jarir al-Tabari, leading to believe the historical accuracy is unbiased.
How to extinguish Muslim terrorism?
We should just cut our ties with any nation that acts like that. Close the embassies, military bases, and embargo them and stop foreign aid. Let them see the world without the U.S.A.
Is the war against Islamic terror even winnable?
it's not like with Afghanistan you can just invade and find all the terrorists...new ones just take their place the two Boston bombers where from Chechnya, that's a part of Russia. one of the dudes that recruited them is from Armenia, a Christian country. like wwII and the cold war it is a war of Ideals, Ideology and point of view. unlike them their is no where to invade, no viable enemy to strike. and currently the USA is losing. secularism and democracy are losing to religious theocracy. can the usa win this war?

Addendum: just because he has an arrogant big mouth and 'says' he's the greatest, doesn't mean he is. He lost FOUR times- 3 of which to fighters that are not among the best heavyweights of all time. Clay wasn't even in the top 10 heavyweights of all time. He pales in comparison to Marciano, Louis, Lewis, young Tyson, Holmes, Johnson, Shmelling, Dempsey, young Frazier, and Valuev.

Why was the US military segregated?
In the early 20th century the people in America weren't that far removed from their ancestors who lived before, during and after the Civil War. As such there was still extreme racial bigotry and segregation throughout mainly the south. Colored men were allowed grudgingly into the military, mainly as drivers, stewards and cooks, and were believed to be not good for much else. There were instances of colored soldiers fighting and representing the best America had to offer, but mostly the colored soldier faced a life of separation and segregation. Most people don't know it, but the first American fighter ace of WWI was a black man. Jacques Bullard wasn't allowed to learn to fly in America, so he went to France where he learned to fly and went on to serve in the French Air Force and later the American Volunteer Division where he shot down 5 German fighters to earn the accolade of "Ace".
