How Long Would You Recommend To Leave Hair Dye In For

How long can you leave hair dye in your hair?

What ive learned is that if its:

black: the longer you leave it in, it really doesnt matter.

Brown:if its the cheap box kind, the longer you leave it in, the oranger your hair gets. If its the kind you get at like Sally's that you have to mix yourself, the longer you leave it in, the browner it gets.

Blonde: If your starting with a dark haircolor and apply blonde dye, the longer you leave it in, the more strawberry it gets. It wont turn completely blonde, unless bleached.

What happens if you leave hairdye on for too long?

ok, assuming your hair is in good condition before you colour, if you are using a permanent tint to colour your hair, it will not doing any damage leaving it on longer than the recommended time as the product and the assocaited peroxide developer, will stop processing at that point. If your hair is previously coloured, or in poorer condition, you could end up with a little more build up on the ends, but mainly die to staining, which will fade quite rapidly. Now, this rule only applies to tint, NOT to Bleach products.

How long do I leave hair dye in over bleached hair?

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I used Midnight Blue Manic Panic, and in my circumstance, it actually stained my hair shaft, making it impossible to bleach it out. (When I bleached it out, it just turned into a weird nasty turquoise-ish blue green color, and not a pretty one but a sickly looking one). When the bleaching didn't work, I ended up dying over it with a brown. Make sure the brown has a neutral or warm base, to cancel out the blue/green tones. I suggest trying something with a red base. If you choose to use box dye, which is not recommended but whatev, I've used it before, I like Clairol Perfect 10 in Swift Chocolate. However, that one has a purple base so I don't know if it would be best to cover up that blue/green. If you go to Sally's, you can get a lvl 3 hair color with a red or orange base and use lvl 10 developer with it. And I would leave it on a long time, like 45 min-1 hour. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Is it OK to leave hair dye longer than what it says on the box?

I have quite dark brown hair and I want to go light brown (no reddish tone). A friend recommended the Revlon ColorSilk in Light Ash Brown and also told me to leave the dye on longer to get lighter results. I'm a little leery about that since the product is so cheap and I've dyed my hair before so I'm afraid of damage or something. My friend uses this and has great color and she said she usually leaves it on for about 50 minutes. I was just wondering if it's really OK to do that?

I've had my hair dyed in the salon before when my hair was really really dark but the result wasn't too good in my opinion. Sure it was a good job but they keep recommending me to bleach it first before going a couple of shades lighter. I really don't want to bleach, though. I know L'Oreal has a product called ULTRA light brown designed for dark dark hair. I wanted to try that but I'm too afraid it might come out too light for me like blonde or something. I just want a nice, visible light brown color.

What will happen if i leave splat hair dye in too long?

I use that brand too, It's okay to leave it in for maybe an hour and a half- two hours, at least until it dries. One time I left it in for 4 hours while sleeping on it cause I'm a retard, but the results were great! I can't quite remember how damaged it looked, but it lasted awhile. As long as you can manage damaged hair and repair quickly afterwards, then you should be fine. After leaving it in for 2 and a half hours I left conditioner in my hair with a shower cap on for an hour afterwards (I literally have no life). Also, after bleaching you want to leave it and let it repair for a week or two before damaging it a bit more with more hair dye. I re-dye my hair where needed every 2 weeks when using Splat. Also, washing your hair with cold water and only shampooing every other day helps a lot, red dye fades super fast regardless of brand, maybe while showering put a cap on, take a nice warm shower, then at the end turn it cold and quickly do your hair if you're up to it.

Is it okay to leave hair dye in for longer than it is said on the package?

not like harmful to your health, unless youve locked yourself in a small room with no ventilation. this would not be good for your hair though, the dye will make your hair dry and brittle anyway. leaving it on too long will do serious damage.be careful with this stuff.

How long should we leave a hair dye in the hair to obtain maximum results?

Most ammonia based dyes work in 30mins. The first 10 mins, it opens/roughs up the cuticle, the next 10mins are for re coloring the melanin located beneath the cuticle in the cortex, the last 10 mins are for setting the pigment into the melanin in the cortex. Dyes now a days are usually non-progressive dyes meaning they stop all processing after the 30 min mark. Follow instructions of the brand of dye selected. Leaving it on longer dose not mean more coverage.Direct dyes like manic panic paravana are typically timed in 20mins or less depending on porosity of the hair. They are harmless & can be left on any length of time without harm. Once the hair has soaked up the pigment, thats all it can do.Bleach can be left on up to 1 hour for max with 20vol. developer for average to fine hair & 30vol.+ for darker coarse hair. Leaving it on longer may result in chemical damage.

What happens if you leave black hair dye in too long (for an idea in a story)?

Honestly? Nothing.I've dyed my hair, at home, many times- all sorts of colors, from reds to blues, even the whole rainbow once. I don't think that I've ever left it in for the recommended time- leaving semi permanent dyes in longer tends to make the color more vibrant and long lasting.Sometimes, after I've spent the past few hours lightening and then subsequently dying, I'm too tired to wash the dye out until the water runs clear- so go to sleep, leaving it in over night. At some point in time the dye becomes a bit crispy, due to it drying, but after being put under water it becomes wet again, not really causing a problem. So.. Sorry for the lack of any catastrophic results, I guess
