You said you didn't need it to be a huge house ... by not huge do you mean 1200 sq ft total or 2200 sq. ft total. Not huge is in the eye of the creator. So - as a general house - two story - I'd make the living room 14X12, kitchen 14X12 including eating area. Three bedrooms 10x12 and a master bedroom 14x12 Some builders make a huge master bedroom suite and then have miniscule bedrooms for the children.I've seen some builders make a room that will accommodate a single bed and single dresser only - which would work with bunk beds.

If we assume an average three bedroom house; in older homes in the UK, New Zealand and Australia there would be 1 and in newer homes there is still only 1 ‘bathroom’ but there is likely to also be an en-suite with shower and/or a separate toilet.This leads to terminology. In many parts of the world, to be a bathroom, a room must have a bath. A room with a shower is often not called a bathroom. A room with a bath may not have a toilet.The term rest-room can be even more confusing and I recall watching a number of people in an airport going into a ‘rest-room’ area and coming out perplexed when they found that what was being offered was a tiny space with a bed where you could have a nap between flights.

Top floors are going to be a higher bill. Middle and bottom floors have a lower bill. Generally speaking, you can expect a top floor two bedroom to have an electric bill between $75 to $150. The bottom appartments will be a little less, at $50 to $125. Hope this helps ;-)
