How Many Calories Should I Be Eating To Lose Weight

How many calories should i eat to lose weight?

For a sedentary female, a female who doesn't exercise) you need 1200-1300 a day.

Just don't count the calories because that won't help you at all. They key to losing weight is by eating high amounts of protein such as cottage cheese, beans, chicken, etc and LOTS of water, at least 6 glasses a day or more. You can also never eat "too many" vegetables and fruits. Also, avoid empty carbs as much as you can such as pasta, bread, soda, pop, cake, or anything that has added sugar or is man-made.

This may sound outrageous, but if you actually have one cheat day a week or so and just eat junk, you can actually lose weight. It boosts your metabolism in some way.

Another important factor in losing weight is to exercise at least 30 minutes every day. Even walking can help a lot. I suggest getting a pedometer (it counts how many steps you take) which you can get free in the app store.

So basically, don't count calories. Just eat plenty of protein, vegetables, fruits, exercise daily, drink plenty of water, avoid empty carbs.

I have lost around 12 pounds in the past two months just by doing these things, and I did not exercise that much and just ate healthy.

Good luck :)

Safe Weight LossIf you prefer safe weight loss without the need for medical supervision, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests losing 1 to 2 pounds per week. The CDC notes that this rate of weight loss helps keep lost weight off for good. Many effective weight-loss diets contain 1,200 to 1,600 calories per day. Harvard Health Publications suggest that women avoid eating fewer than 1,200 calories daily -- and men should eat a minimum of 1,500 calories per day during weight loss.Calorie-Reduction StrategiesTo help control your calorie intake – and feel full – during weight loss, eat plenty of low-calorie, satiating foods. Protein-rich foods -- such as egg whites, lean meats, skinless poultry, seafood, legumes, seitan, soy products and low-fat dairy foods -- help you feel full better than carbs. Fill up on low-calorie, fiber-rich foods -- such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Try drinking a cup of water before meals to further boost satiety and decrease your caloric intake.

How many calories should I eat to lose a lot of weight fast?

Hey Jessica, It sounds like you're doing a great job already! I find that counting calories is not usually the best way to lose weight. Anywhere between 1600-2000 is an "average" number of calories to consume a day, but it all depends on how your body functions on those calories. The more active you are, the more calories you need to consume to keep yourself going! Look at Michael Phelps, he eats like 6000+ calories a day and is very fit! You should try to focus more on WHAT you're eating, not how many calories are in it. If you are eating 1800 calories a day, but that's 18 donuts you are not going to get anywhere. Plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, water, and unprocessed foods are best. Try to focus on what a great job you've done already, and not so much on how fast you get it done. You've lost 34 pounds! That's fantastic! Keeping goals is a good way to help as well, such as "I will fit into those cute jeans by May!" or, "I will run a mile every day for a week!" Talking to your doctor or a dietitian may also be good ideas. I think you're doing great though, keep up the good work!

This depends upon how active you are. All weight loss is a function of how much energy you burn against how much energy you take on, in the form of food and drink.I should add at this point that losing weight at a rate of above about 1 kg a week is difficult and is definitely unsustainable. However, if you are set on losing 5 kg in a week, it can be done. For each 1 kg per week of weight loss, you need a net deficit in calories of about 600 calories per day. In other words, you need to burn 600 calories per day more than you consume. So, to lose 5 kg in one week, you need to burn 3000 calories more than you consume each day.Given that an average man / woman consumes around 2000 / 1500 calories each day to remain the same weight, this means that if you are a man, you probably need to drop your calorie intake by about 1000 calories a day AND do sufficient ADDITIONAL exercise each day, to burn an extra 2000 calories per day. This sounds like a really tall order, which is why I said at the start that it’s unsustainable.Whilst I heartily recommend that you don’t do this, if you do, good luck!

How many calories a day should I eat to lose weight?

Do NOT do that! HOWEVER, there was an interesting, very well-publicized diet that got a lot of people losing weight some years back. It was called the Rotation Diet. Whole CITIES went on the diet. They would go to their local grocery store - here it was Fred Meyer, weigh in and their progress would be tracked. Then an amalgamated total weight loss would be posted and publicized. It was really very successful, and pretty much NO bad press--medical or otherwise--about it. Lots of veggies, salads and whole grains, etc. The ideas was this: Consume super low calories for 3 days--600; a rise in calories for the next 4 days--900; then 1200 calories for a week (7 days) -- this is the plan for women. The men's plan differs. You follow the plan for 3 weeks, and then you take a "vacation." Then go back on the plan. The author of the plan suggests that you "trick" your metabolism by changing the number of calories you consume periodically. Dr. Kahn suggests that the body when going on a diet such as you propose (800 calories) will give itself a signal that it is starving and will begin to NOT function normally and lose weight simply to preserve itself. Makes some kind of sense, actually. But with the Rotation Diet, the switches are fairly rapid and the body doesn't see itself as starving. And certainly not on a 1200 calorie diet which is what you do during the middle week of three weeks of working the plan. This plan is definitely NOT for anyone who does not wish to count calories. But, in my view, and even in Weight Watchers view, you gotta count somethin' ! Well, I did the Rotation Diet for the better part of a year, and lost over 50 lbs. It works! Follow the links to find out more. I;ve included a review there, too. The last link is a good one.
