Based on the publicly available data in this paper, the average US user had 214 US friends which based on their estimates, would equate to ~60,000 friends of friends. The paper is dense, but basically, it found that the average Facebook user friends have more friends than they do. This fact is counter-intuitive at first, but true of most networks like this. They know a lot of people from random places and send out a LOT of friend requests. And spend a LOT of time on Facebook. Most people accept all requests they get. They add people they went to high school with, went to college with, took a class with, work with or used to work with, know through a friend, know through Facebook, etc...

I honestly don't know.IRL I have 6 friends who also happen to be on FB , but I only "visit" my account once a month or so for the sole purpose of reviewing what's getting posted in my name.I had dumped the account about 1 1/2 years ago after they changed their TOS (and I actually read them cover to cover) but was forced into reopening it in order to apply for a job at the local FB data center.I would note that most of my privacy settings are maxed.I would also note that, were it not for the mandate to have a FB account active by FB in order to apply for a job with them, I would have left the account D.O.A.!!
