How Many Fancy Goldfish Can Be Kept In A 55 Gallon Aquarium

How many Goldfish in a 55 gallon aquarium?

The inch per gallon rule DOES NOT WORK, especially not for Goldfish!! 10-15 Goldfish would be MASSIVELY overstocking that 55g and would result in a heap of dead fish.

I would say two common/comet Goldfish max bearing in mind they do get very large and the mess only increases as they grow. Get those live plants established first as the Goldfish will pick at and uproot them.

Really, common/comet type Goldfish really do best in ponds over 500-600 gallons.

Are there any varieties of goldfish that can be kept in a 10 gallon aquarium?

No, there really are not. Even the shortest varieties of goldfish can grow to over 8 inches (and very big around), and goldfish are very messy, creating a huge bioload for their size. As a result, no aquarist would recommend even one goldfish be kept in anything smaller than a 20 gallon tank (the smallest varieties would do okay in a 20 - larger ones would, of course, need larger tanks).A more appropriate fish for a 10 gallon tank would be a single male Betta. 10 gallons is ideal for that species. (Of course, they require heat).

How many common goldfish can live in a 55 gallon aquarium?

I currently have seven fish all around 4 to 6 inches long. The tank is soon to be connected to my aquaponics garden and will always be clean so assuming the water will always have the proper PH, nitrite and nitrate levels and low ammonia levels how many can I keep in my 55 gallon tank. There are no ornaments just a few fake plants and I want as many as I can have without them being unhappy.

An I put 2 fancy goldfish in a 29 gallon tank?

I have 2 fancy goldfish in a 29 gallon tank. one is an oranda and the other one is a black moor. they are about 2 inches big. I m planning on getting a red cap oranda but I know how big goldfish can get, so I m not sure if putting another will overstock the tank.

How many koi can a fit in a 55 gallon aquarium?

For temporary housing while waiting to go into a decorative pond (don't put them in a natural pond!), I would give a koi 5 gallons per inch.
When they reach adulthood they need approximately 1000 gallons each.
If you are not planning on a pond, do not get koi.

If you still want coldwater fish, you could house 2 adult common goldfish in a 55gal.

You could house 4 adult fancy goldfish in a 55.

How Many Goldfish Can You Keep in a 20 Gallon Tank?

Although when you buy them small, a 20 gallon tank looks massive and empty compared to their tiny size, that will not last. Goldfish are related to koi and are a species of carp - they all get very large and produce prodigious amounts of waste - more than their wild cousins in the fish world due to mankinds tinkering with their genes. Unfortunately this means that no species of goldfish do well in small tanks - they flourish in ponds, do ok in large tanks of 55 gallons + and although one full sized fancy goldfish (either of the varieties you mentioned would be considered fancy) COULD survive in a 20 gallon tank provided it had plenty of filtration and regular water maintenance, it would not grow as quickly or as fully as it would with more room and it would get far less exercise and mental stimulation - it would be akin to being in a very small jail cell and never leaving it. If you are deadset on fancy goldfish and absolutely cannot set up a larger tank, I would advise a compromise on species and share just one for that tank. As for filtration, due to cost, ease of maintenance and reliability, I would suggest an Aquaclear by Hagen which you can get online for a decent price. They are much cheaper, easier to install and maintain than a canister filter and outperform most hang-on-back filters, especially ones that require constant filter cartridge changes as you can clean the sponge it comes with and re-use it, you never have to clean the bio media and you can bag up and use cheaper brands of carbon and zeolite if you desire. Hope the advice helps and wish you good luck with your endeavor. Also, please make sure you have cycled your tank With a filter for a couple of weeks before buying any fish. (and as for species getting along - they all have different personalities so its a tossup everytime, but on avg, those two, if they are the same sized fish in an adequately spaced tank, could survive together.)

How Many Goldfish in a 36 gallon?

Just asking I wanted to put in 6 if not 8 goldfish in a larger tank 36 gallon or maybe at least 55 gallon to make it more comfortable, plus I know they are BIG POOP FACTORIES. But I do water changes and extra water changes if needed. Plus I would like if there were any positive answers to my question. Plus If a Person can fit at least 5 goldfish in a 20 gallon and they live a long healthy life than why not a 36 or 55 gallon with 8 goldfish, plus my that person was my Friend he kept his for a really long time.

How many goldfish in a 55 gallon tank?

The fancy fat bodied goldfish like Black Moors and fantails, 4 or 5 in that size tank. Make sure you have excellent filtering and do lots of water changes as they get bigger. They could live up to 10 years.

Slim bodied goldfish like Comets and Shubunkin, really only one, yes they do get that big, and really need a pond long term. Maybe 20 years if you give them the space and good water conditions they need.

If you set up a pond you can keep several small goldfish in the tank for a year or so, and move them to the pond as they grow too big.

I have a 7 gallon tank and a small baby fancy goldfish. How long can I keep him in this aquarium?

Maybe 3-6 months max, and that's with heavy filtration and frequent water changes (which will stress him). That's a pretty small tank, and it's not just a problem because the goldfish is going to (at least) double in mass in the next 3-4 months. It's also a problem because water quality and temperature are just more difficult to keep stable in a smaller volume of water, so with frequent water changes, you're going to create fluctuating conditions which will stress your fish. For the health of that fish, it would be better to just get him a bigger tank sooner than later, say 35-55 gal or so, since that's what he'll eventually need (55 and up if you want him to have any tankmates). It would be like twice that (or a pond ideally) for common/comet goldfish.

Can I keep my 55 gallon goldfish tank in my garage? I live in Raleigh, NC.

Goldfish are a common choice for ponds where they remain throughout the year. Here’s a wikipedia link for some more information: Goldfish - Wikipedia. As long as the tank has filtration and you change the water frequently, you should be fine.
