How Many Feet Is Hawaii

How long does it take to sail to Hawaii?

Depends on boat, crew and weather. “Lloyd Thornburg and his crew aboard the MOD70 Phaedo^3 swooped past Diamond Head Lighthouse buoy at 4:32:18 am [in 2017] local time to set a new speed record from Los Angeles to Honolulu, Hawaii. After their start on May 12 at 21:40:15 (UTC), their elapsed time of 3 days 16 hours 52 minutes and 03 seconds (to be ratified by the WSSRC) on the 2215 nm course will have shaved off an hour from the previous record of 03:18:00:09 (24.61 kt avg) set by 105-foot VPLP-designed trimaran Lending Club 2 back in July 2015. “It took me almost 15 days in my 38′ Frers 38, but then we had a steering system breakdown and could not fly a kite, and came in last in 1997. Pyewacket won Transpac that year in about 7 days.Cruising boats (monohull) take 10 to 30 days depending largely on weather and … boat and crew.

How to beat a jaywalking ticket in Hawaii?

Citation for 291C-73(c) in Honolulu.

On an empty one way street with all cars stopped upstream at a pedestrian activated light, I crossed 25 feet downstream from zebra crossing after waiting for traffic to stop at the upstream pedestrian activated light.

I feel this is a false ticketing just to see if there were any wants or warrants on me because HPD wrote it wrong on the ticket and added an extra digit that reads 291C1-73(c) but the court summons says HRS 291C-73(c)

It doesn't seem unreasonable or should be unlawful to cross on one way streets with stopped upstream traffic, with other people within the crosswalk at the same time.

Jaywalking is not as simple as walking outside zebra artwork but I need the legalese that judges respond to.

Can't I just get out of it because it was written wrong?

How many feet over or near Hawaii do you need to be to make a phone call from a plane?

Highly depends on Cellular Provider. Usually and technically it's not more than 3 km above the ground in most of European GSM networks. Hard to say definitely about Hawaii, but usually 2.5 - 4 km maximum. As a picture shows the most of network flow is attracted and delivered to ground so that's why you cannot use cellular connection on high altitudes.

Could everyone in the world fit in Hawaii?

Hawaii has an area of 28314 square kilometres which is a bit under half the size of Tasmania. I know everyone in the world can fit easily into Tasmania so we'll look at Hawaii.

28314sq km is 28,314,000,000 sq metres. As there are something over 6billion people in the world, lets call it 6.5billion, that's 6,500,000,000 people. So the area available to each person is 4.36 sq metres. Plenty of room and you'd fit in the 1.5billion portaloos you'd need as well.

What are some active volcanoes in Hawaii?

The main one - the centerpiece of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - is Kilauea. It’s been erupting non-stop for over 30 years, and had numerous spectacular eruptions before that during the 19th and 20th centuries. It’s only a bit more than 4,000 feet tall, and looks almost like a bump on the side of…Mauna Loa. Also partly within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the “Long Mountain” is the most massive surface mountain on Earth (not to be confused with some seafloor volcanoes that are even more massive). This one erupts mainly from its summit caldera at about 13,600 feet above sea level, and the lava runs slowly down its long, sloping sides. The city of Hilo lies on its flank, and lava came within about 7 miles of Hilo during the 1984 eruption. People’s yards in Hilo have lava in them from the 1881 eruption! They said Mauna Loa was on a 20-year cycle, but I lived in Hilo from 2002–2016 and not once did I get buried in lava.Lo’ihi is a seamount southeast of Hawaii Island. It’s still thousands of feet below the surface, but is growing, and in millions of years will be the next island in the chain. So it has to be mentioned here.Hualalai, about 8,000 feet tall, looms over the tourist town of Kailua-Kona, on the west side of the island. It hasn’t erupted for probably a couple hundred years, and doesn’t really worry people much, but folks interested in geothermal energy think there’s probably still enough heat under it to make it worth researching. The other volcanoes on the island are either dormant (Maunakea) or extinct (Kohala) - and all the other ones on the other islands up the chain, like Haleakala on Maui and Waianae and Koolau on Oahu, are also extinct.

Why aren't there any bridges between the islands of Hawaii?

The water between the Hawaiian islands is very deep. Typical maximum depth is 2000 or 3000 ft and there are worse cases. The islands are widely separated. The average distance between the larger islands is around 50 miles, more or less. The longest bridge in the world is about 100 miles long, but it is mostly over land and very shallow water. There are three ways that you might build such a bridge. You could drive a series of pillars, all about 2000 or 3000 feet tall. That is a huge challenge. Each pillar would be the height of a skyscraper. By comparison, the depth of the San Francisco Bay, which has many bridges is about 360 feet. You could go with a single-span bridge, but the longest single-span is in the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, and it’s a bit over a mile long. You could go with a floating bridge, but the longest permanent floating bridge is the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge (2016), which is a little over a mile long. You might be able to build a bridge to some of the smaller islands, say from Maui to Molokai, but it would be hugely expensive, and why would you do that? The population of these islands are small and tourists are easily accommodated by a small number of small planes every day. The appeal of the smaller islands is that they are isolated. They don’t have enough land to make a significant difference.

How long does sailing from Portland, Oregon to Hawaii take and what is the minimum boat size?

It’s about 2100 nautical miles to Hawaii from Portland. An average sail boat can travel about 5 knots an hour, so 120 miles per day. That will get you there in about 18 days. Depending on your budget, you could do this in a 30 foot boat and many have. It will not be as comfortable as a 40 foot boat. Some can do this single hand but the more crew (3–4 is ideal) the easier it will be on the crew. The more crew, the bigger the boat.I had a friend sailing back from Hawaii in a fast trimaran. About 700 miles off SF, the hit something in the middle of the night. The object was big and broke up the boat so bad, they could not sail forward more than 1 knot per hour. They called a Mayday and were picked up by a large ship. They ended up in Panama two weeks later. Trimarans are hard to sink so she is most likely still out there floating around the Pacific.
