How Many Hours A Week Do You Have To Work For Them To Cut Off Your Food Stamps I Hear Its Over 30

How do I make too much for Food Stamps?

Hi hon....

i'm sorry to hear you're struggling, and i hope you will continue to avoid the child's father forever.. not good for your emotional health or that of your son.

i do know that in some states, you can get into a state funded child wellness program, and on medicaid for you and your child if you don't make enough money.. have you checked into that benefit?

another thing you could do, is check your community and surrounding communities for food pantries. some churches give out food once a week to people who just come in off the streets and who are in need...my daughter in law did this when she was having financial problems, and once a week, a local church gave her a couple of bags of food. it's worth looking into.

also, some communities have a Community Action service, which might help with electric or other utilities.

you could also contact social services to find out about programs available... sometimes we just have to do a little legwork.

take care, and i hope you can find some good assistance out there... hugs

Some state welfare programs consider scholarships, financial assistance, and student employment as income - if you are receiving any of these, they may put you over the income limit for a single individual as defined by your state's implementation of the SNAP program.Otherwise, you may not be able or willing (with good reason) to engage in job search activities while you are a full-time student. Many states, particularly those that are traditionally red and thus fiscally conservative, require food stamps recipients to either be employed or actively looking for work. This is known as the “welfare-to-work” style of program, and while it is a catchy phrase, it is not always realistic. If you live in one of these states requiring job search or employment, please contact your local health and welfare about exemptions for full-time students. Many states consider full-time enrollment in classes at an accredited institution (almost any 2- or 4-year college) a reasonable substitution for that work/job search requirements.Do look into exemptions for students! Ask again if you don't get a good answer from the welfare department the first time. Although it will waive your “job search requirement” while you are enrolled as a full-time student, you may have to work or look for work if you aren't enrolled during the summer semester. If you are a part-time student, the job search requirement for your state may be reduced as part of the exemption clause. They may only ask you to work part-time hours instead.Good luck!

No, not if it is "mind work". At 120 hours per week, your short-term memory may be challenged, causing you to make lots of mistakes. Those mistakes will have to be fixed and will be demoralizing. Your low morale will affect your productivity, even when you are not making mistakes. Your ability to maintain focus will be challenged. My experience: when I was young (mid-20's), very fit (<1:30 half-marathon), and loved my project at work, I went 7 straight months working 90+ hours per week. Weekly hours were: 75/90/110/120. I got the project done, but my productivity per hour was poor.At 120 hours per week, you have less than 8 hours per day for sleep AND all other waking activities.  Realistically, even if your only other waking activities are (1) shower/breakfast, (2) dinner, (3) 'coming down' from the days' work, you may only get 4-5 hours sleep per night. It may not be particularly restful sleep, because you will be feeling the pressure to fall asleep.______________________My experience from 25+ years of professional work life in some very high intensity, successful technology companies:50-hour, 5-day workweeks are sustainable, week-in and week-out by just about everybody80-hour, 6-7-day workweeks are sustainable if you love the work or are otherwise motivated

Income you need to appy for food stamps.?

It depends on what state you live in, really.

But you have to be REALLY poor.

I was just denied food stamps because of too many assets. There are two of us, living off $10,000 a year income, and one of us has a few thousand dollars in a Roth IRA and were declined. Had we not had the IRA, we would have been eligible. But we JUST MADE the cut off for income. (That is TWO OF US MAKING 10,000 A YEAR COMBINED)

And you would most likely have to do some required hours community service monthly or attend a welfare to work program, depending on the state you live in. The way my state works is you didn't have to attend the program or do community service if you worked an average of 32 hours a week.

And no, you don't get garbage food. They'll give you something that looks like an ATM card and you can use it in the store just like a debit card to pay for your groceries. (Only food purchases are covered, things like toilet paper and shampoo are not)

My boss cut my hours at work. Can he do that?

i am a supervisor and sorry to say unless your employer binds you with a contract were he guarantees certain hours and benefits he can cut your hours down drastically. You have rights as well, i suggest that you look at your contract to see what restrictions you have. The best thing to do is talk to your employer to see if there is any possible way to schedule you more hours. Gather as much information as possible as far what the reason for the cut in hours was and if its permanent. When job searching make sure you look for a full time job with good benefits that can guarantee you hours. It will eventually end up costing you more to have two jobs and juggle between both schedules. If its temporary go to the unemployment office and file a claim. They can help out also.
Good Luck in your future endeavors

Should I be embarrassed to use food stamps?

I have mixed feelings. First, I'm wondering why your sister can't give you a few bucks to go out and buy food. Second, I'm a college student myself. I understand that the summer can be rough, especially without loans to get you by, but if you can get food stamps, every student out there should be allowed to get food stamps during the summer. It's just not fair. Especially when I'm paying taxes on my own summer job. Finally, will the paperwork even go through by the time you are ready to go back to work?

Ask your landlord and utility companies if you can postpone payment for this month, and buy something other than popcorn and butter. Ramon noodles are cheap. 15 cents a pack. Try those out. There are also peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Edited: Thank you for clarifying your situation. I am a little more sympathetic to your situation now.

As for black people getting food stamps and having LCD TVs in all rooms of their home, I don't doubt it. Some people know how to work the system. What's sad is no one is watching the people of all races (I heard through a friend about people in her trailer park milking the system) using these public services.

Ugh. Want to hear something frustrating? I work in a retail pharmacy. You have NO idea how irritating it is to pay taxes and then have someone on welfare complain about their $1.00 copay on their child's $60.00 medication. Some of these individuals are the same people who will slap a candy bar on the counter and use their food stamp money to pay for it.

The federal rules on food stamps for students are somewhat complicated.A “student” is someone who is between 18 and49 who is attending an institution of higher education and is taking at least 6 units, or is at least half time according to the school. The person has to be in a program of higher education; students who are taking, for instance, English as a second Language (ESL) classes or GED classes are not considered students of higher education. In general, a student does not qualify for food stamps, even if that student is extremely poor. This goes back to the Reagan administration. If you recall that time, you may recall the “welfare queen”, a black woman who drove a Cadillac and used food stmps to buy thick steaks. That is no more true now than it was then—nothing but a cruel myth. But that’s how all this was portrayed. I also recall students were castigated because Uncle Sam was allowing them to receive an education and food?! Regular people can’t do that. Why would liberal lazy students qualify? So in 1981 the Food Stamp Program suffered massive cuts, and most students were cut off. However, some students do qualify. Here are some of the ways:Under or over agephysically or mentally disabledsingle parent of a child under 12 and child care is not availableparent of a child under 6 (if a 2-parent household, only one parent qualifies)working at least 20 hours a week on average earning at least minimum wagereceiving TANF and participating in the work programparticipating in state or federal work studyThe Food Stamp Program, now known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), has been arguably the single most effective federal program, along with Social Security. The USDA provided a documentary many years ago on the benefits of food stamps. In the film, a doctor is treating a severely malnourished baby, who dies while the camera is filming. In some areas, babies and children no longer die from malnutrition. Elderly now have the ability to get additional food.Yes, there are many problems with the program, but the good far, far outweighs the bad. And this is the program targeted for even more cuts that will affect only affect the poorest of the poor. The federal regulations on student eligibility can be found at 7CFR 273.5.

My employer keeps cutting my hours?

My employer keeps cutting my hours. I started at around 30 a week and now I'm down to 13. I am now having problems paying my bills. I brought this problem to my managers attention and ask if she would just lay me off so I can get unemployment benefits where I would make about 3 times as much a week. She snapped at me and she said she wont lay me off. She also said that I took this job as a part time employee and that I just need to deal with it. Yet she doest cut back her hours. She still works full time. I cant get fired, or no unemployment, and I cant quit or no benefits. What do I do?

Can they cut my hours? what do i do?

I feel for you, brother. I am a POS Associate at a Maryland Kohl's, and some of the managers constantly harrass me about getting more credit. I got into a slight argument with one last week because he started telling me that if I didn't get more credit, he would lose his job and his children would starve. I didn't see this as a fair way to motivate me and said so. Anyway, they can and will cut your hours. It's a ploy to make you quit so they don't have to pay unemployment. Another thing you might be interested to know is that the CEO of Kohl's made $11.46 million last year while we were making slightly more than minimum wage. Good luck finding something else; there's not much out there right now.
