How Many Immigrant Children On The Border Could Have Been Fed With What It Cost To Buy Just One

Are Americans really fed up with immigrants?

I have travelled length and breadth of United States. I have visited suburbs of NY and bars of SF. I have hiked in Alaska and Badlands in South Dakota. I have met ranchers in Texas and horse breeders in Oklahoma. Heck I once stayed with a redneck family in Wyoming. I spent two weeks in Nebraska and 1 week in Nevada. I also met a lot of elders of Navajo tribe in Arizona.During all those travels I was totally and absolutely stunned by how good people are to me despite my skin colour (brown), ethnicity (Indian), religion (Hindu) and language (the usual accent).Of course there were racist people. There were rude people but they were just far too few compared to the people who were so good to me for no good reason. The most racist thing in USA is the US Federal Government.US government is racist to the core constantly pitting one group against another. From war on drugs to needless vilification of Asians to completely arbitrary and monstrous immigration laws US government is an indeed a racist monster. No White Christian in the bible belt has ever treated me as badly as government officials of CBP, Visa Officers and Cops. That too when I have gone out of my way to comply with all possible laws out there. In fact I suspect that the immigration laws are designed specifically to create criminals out of law abiding immigrants.Edit:A lot of people have been citing how someone passed racist comments again an Indian/Mexican etc. I thought I will update the answer to express my opinion.A person passing racist comment is a problem but not a very big one. Simply because the person can not legally use violence against you. He can shout as much as he wants but if he hits me because I am brown he gets charged with assault/battery.It is a 100X bigger problem when all the racist people gang up and then pass laws and rules that specifically target Indians/Chinese etc. This is 100X worse because now these people have state’s coercive power/violence in their side which they can exercise without any fear of punishment.Hispanic/Black community has strength of numbers here but Indian or Chinese people don’t. Since Indian/Chinese people have no political pressure groups they are often the prime target of racist Federal government policies.I remember during his campaigning Ted Cruz passed some remarks about “Anchor Babies”, when confronted by Hispanic political groups he claimed he was referring to “asians” ! The crass attitude suggests that he doesn’t give two fucks about Asians.

When will the US stop letting immigrants in?!?

I fully understand that we are extremely blessed to live in the US. I know that people risk their lives to get here, but we cant help everyone.

We cant keep letting hundreds of thousands of people into our country. When will we stop? Our country spends way too much of our time, money, and resources trying to help others...We have to fix ourselves first.

Why do Americans think a border wall will stop illegal immigration? Have they heard of planes.

The wall is an excellent tool to canalize movement of people in small areas of the border, reducing the amount of border needed to patrol. So logically it would seem the wall would work well all over, but this is not the case. There is a limit to places where the wall would be effective that do not already have… you guessed it, a wall. The main reasons for the wall is to pay off political debts, not make the border secure. If border security were that much of a problem it would be approached scientifically with a wide range of techniques and a larger border patrol force that extended upward to 50 miles inland around the nation. If you think think sovereign citizens whine enough now for a cheese festival, wait until an effective border patrol system was put into place because it includes ID checks on public and private property no matter what color of skin of the individual. The border wall is obviously not for defense, so what is it for? It is a property deal, pure and simple. If you need to find a way to direct billions of tax dollars per year into an endless building fest that need never be completed and no one cares if it works, using emergency cost plus contracts, then you have the perfect source of graft.

Why do illegal mexicans just walk across our borders? Why dont we stop them?

In 2004 10,000 federal agents (CBP) working on the border apprehended 1.1 million people attempting to cross the border.

Have you ever been to the border between the US and Mexico? It is very long (over 2000 miles) and extremely in hospitable. I know because I was stationed in a recon unit to watch a portion of it. Even if a fence is built, there is no way to watch the fence all the time, and any fence can be breached. Do the math....to adequately watch the border with real time guards (that is someone who can respond to an immediate breach) you would need a guard tower every 1/4 mile (depending on terrain). That is 8000 guard towers. To staff that 24 hours/365, with two agents, you would need 64,000 agents, plus another large group to actually round up the illegals, process them, and detain them. Although some might like to, we can't shoot them or abuse them, so this is expensive.

By my rapid calculations, we would need about 100,000 more law enforcement personnel (at a cost of 8 billion dollars per year, not counting facilities). We would also have to build a more user-friendly infrastructure along the border, which, by the way has lots of private land along it. Yes, we could uset he military to staff these towers, but wait, by the constitution we can't have active duty military or reserve make arrests (posse comitatus). Yes, they can watch and radio (like we did in the Sonoran Desert years ago), but then you end up with nasty situations like the Marine who shot and killed a Mexican boy who had strayed over the border with some sheep.

Part of the problem is that while people whine about this, they love to get cheap labor. Many businesses and private families intentionally employ illegal aliens because they save money. The pressure that special interest groups representing certain of these folks is certain to make it difficult to stop the supply. Congress is about the consider a new bill to have guest workers, like in Germany with the Turks. After all, you don't really want a job as a fruit picker, do you, or as an office cleaner...got to leave those for the migrant workers!

Does illegal immigration affect the economy more negatively or positively?

It affects the states negatively, and the federal government positively.

In brief:

States fund Medicaid and the public school system, etc. Illegals tend to consume these services without paying taxes.

On the flip side, illegals are often working with a fake SS#. In that scenario, millions are paying into Social Security without any chance of recouping it, so the Federal government will make a profit.

Here's an academic paper looking at it empirically:

Will the second child who died in US custody after crossing the Mexican border soften any American hearts to the controversial new immigration policies?

The media, which hates Trump, has turned the deaths of those children into a political football designed to outrage people. But their deaths can be blamed directly on the parents who dragged them along on a dangerous journey. It’s actually rather miraculous that more haven’t died. The fact is, the US border patrol “inherited” the problem of two sick kids, but they did not create it.They did what they could to help, but as is sometimes the case, kids do get sick and die. They die inside the US too—American kids. Where is the outrage over that? The death of any child is truly unfortunate. Nobody likes to see it happen. But no, it won’t change the opinion of most rational persons. Most Americans can see clearly enough to understand that the US isn’t at fault in these cases.

How is it possible that more Americans blame the immigrant parents for the separation of their children than blame President Trump? What could they possibly be thinking?

How is it possible that more Americans blame the immigrant parents for the separation of their children and then blame President Trump? What could they possibly be thinking? First off,  Eighty percent of the children are separated in their own country.  That’s child abuse.  If they were American Citizens, their children would probably be taken away from them by Child Protective Services.  Only Twenty percent arrive with a parent or legal guardian.  It is getting so bad, Homeland Security is doing DNA testing to prove relationship.  It’s a loop hole in the law, if you arrive with children and you claim asylum, the children must be released within twenty days according to the Flores Vs. Reno decision or better known as the Flores agreement.  The previous administrations simply would release the illegals knowing full well they would never show up for their hearings.  Trump basically said “not on my watch” and I think he will probably just deport the kids with the parents at the twenty day mark without a hearing and let the Democrats squirm for a solution.  The President can’t pass laws, only congress.  The President can only enforce the law and that is exactly what he intends to do.

Why is a border wall more important than healthcare for the American people?

Trump doesn’t get kick backs from health He doesn’t want healthcare

Why do Democrats who are negotiating terms for immigration policy want to reduce and cap the number of beds available from 38,000 to 16,000 for ICE detainees who were picked up away from the border?

No need for jail or wall if USA applies strict rules, no legal status means no jobs, services, IDs, bank accounts, no plane/bus/train tickets and employers breaking immigration laws will be fined and must bear the cost of ASAP deportation of their employees without legal permission to work.Private entities, municipalities and state government aiding illegal IMMIGRANTS will be sued and fined by the Fed.USA needs an EXIT CONTROL in place to make sure foreigners won't over stay. Overstaying will be fined $200 per day up to $10,000 max. those who can't pay fine will be deported and banned for life and future visits will only be possible with a US CITIZEN guarantor and $ 100K security deposit. Those who pay fine may come back to the USA using their previous valid visas if they put down $50K security deposit that will be forfeited if they over stay again.
