How Many Inches Do Domestic Shorthairs Get

I'm about to adopt a 10 month female domestic shorthair cat because her previous servants can no longer care for her. What must I know?

That you're a great person for becoming her guardian!A lot depends on how her life has been the last 10 months. Was she with other animals? Is she indoor or outdoor? Is she spayed? Does she have her claws? In any case, She's still a kitten so she’ll be active and want to play i suspect. I would have the following for her:Toys that she can bat around and chaseA scratching post so she can scratch and stretch (assuming I hope that she still has her claws)A food, water and litter box, assuming she won't be an outdoor cat. If she's been declawed, get very fine litter. Coarse litter can be painful to sensitive paws that have been declawed and she may not want to use the litter box in that case. If she hasn't been declawed, good. Don't do it, it's cruel.Give her time to acclimate to her new environment. They adjust well, but it can take some time, so be patient with her.Talk to her a lot, and around her, in soothing tones, so she knows she is safe when she hears your voice.Play the blinking game with her. Slow, soft blinks are a cat’s way of saying “hello friend” so get down on her level and blink and chat with her.Just observe her, see if she's a tree dweller or a ground dweller and place her things accordingly.Think about getting pet insurance. You may not use it when she's young, but vet costs can be exorbitant and unexpected later in life.Enjoy the new member of your family, cats are such sweet companions if you treat them with loving attention and affection!

How many hairs does my cat have ?

30 to 50 million should be a good estimation. Approximately 60,000-120,000 hairs per square inch x 144 sqin/ft x approximately 3 square feet of surface area = about 40 million hairs. Even this estimation varies of course due to breed, size, etc.

What is the difference between a domestic short hair and a tabby?

All tabbies are domestic shorthairs. Not all domestic shorthairs are tabbies. "Domestic shorthair" pretty much just means "house cat".

Domestic medium or short hair cat?

It's really impossible to tell without a photo. Young kittens can look fluffy and it may seem like their fur is longer than it really is.

good luck!

I have a 15 year old cat who has fleas and now we think worms. She is not one to take baths or go to the vet?

if she is 15 now, she should have started to see a vet once a year once she turned 10 yrs old. a cats normal life expectancy is 10 yrs old. anything after that, a cat can start getting arthritis, cancer, eye issues, heart issues, and a number of other health problems that are associated with age.

it is also known that fleas actually cause tape worm. if your cat has fleas then she more that likely has worms. tape worms somehow manage to lay eggs in fleas. when your cat scratches and bites at the fleas, they may accidental eat some. the eggs hatches inside the cat, an d the larvae grows into a large worm. the large worm will release parts of itself that will come out the cats rectum and in their feces.

what you need to to to take care of it quickly, is to call the vet and ask for a product called Revolution. it treats both worms and fleas. you put it on the back of the cats neck like Frontline and Advantage. it also treats tick, roundworm, ring worm, heart worm, and ear mites. i use it on my 15 yr old male and it works great.

good luck

Are all domestic cats afraid of water?

Most of my cats over 40+ years have accidentally fallen into a full bathtub as their first immersion. Most of them didn't care for it, let alone the towel-drying afterwards. All my head cats have liked drinking from the bathtub, and all red tabbies have, too.One female red tabby named Leela loved to swim in the bathtub. It was an enormous bathtub, so she did laps every time she got the chance.Years later, a Russian blue named Chaz fell in and nearly drowned before I knew he had fallen in. He could swim, but he couldn't get out, being still kitten-sized at the time. He was terrified of water from that time on. On the other hand, he tried desperately to save me from drowning in that same bathtub a few years later. I wasn't drowning, but I still called him my hero for the rest of his life. In fact, I'm still calling him my hero right now, and he died of old age several years ago. There, an example of each.

How big can a regular cat get in inches?

Just as most male humans are taller than female humans, tomcats are typically larger than their daintier queen counterparts. However, this in no way means that all male cats are bigger than all female cats. Exceptions always do exist, and while some tomcats remain small, some queens grow very large.Average WeightFor physically mature domestic male felines, the average weight is approximately 7 pounds, according to the Merck Veterinary Manual. Female felines are ever so slightly smaller than tomcats, and usually weigh in at around 6 pounds or so. These weights are by no means set in stone, however. Some male cats are rather lithe and weigh a lot less than overweight queens, for example.Body LengthThe average length of body also differs between male and female cats, according to Animal Bytes of SeaWorld. Feral male cats, which are biologically the same as typical household cats, usually are about 21 inches long. As for female cats, the body length is usually slightly shorter at around 19 inches. Tail length also differs subtly between the sexes, with male cat tails being roughly 11 inches long and female cat tails being just under 10 inches long.Diet and ExerciseWithout following a healthy diet and receiving sufficient exercise, a female cat can weigh significantly more than a male cat that has a similar body frame to her, even though tomcats usually are heavier than queens. If you have either a male or female cat and suspect a weight problem, schedule an appointment with the veterinarian pronto. Since healthy and acceptable weight ranges greatly among the different breeds, only a qualified professional will be able to tell you if your cat's size is conducive to well being and longevity.Neutered Male CatsTomcats that are unneutered may grow to be bigger than fixed male cats that are neutered prior to attaining physical maturity. Male cats that never reach reproductive capability do not possess secondary sex traits, and because of that you may notice that their overall frames are significantly smaller than those of intact tomcats. Unfixed cats are usually more muscular, with fuller faces. However, this always, again, depends on the specific cat in question.

Could a wild cat mate with a domestic cat?

If you are referring to a feral cat, then that mating practice it is a very common occurrence and produces offspring. They are both of the genus Felis and the Species Cactus. If you are asking about a cat that lives in a jungle, then it can happen but it is not easy. For example, This Serval Cat is Bigger than It Looks, Maybe 24 Inches Long and 14 Inches High. He is from the genus Leptailurus and the Species serval. He is the only species in this genus. The Serval can breed with a domestic cat and produce a hybrid called a Savannah. This does not work very well. Savannahs are very difficult to produce, due to the significant difference in gestation periods between the serval and a domestic cat (75 days for a serval and 65 days for a domestic cat), and sex chromosomes. Pregnancies are often absorbed or aborted, or kittens are born prematurely. Also, servals can be very picky in choosing mates, and often will not mate with a domestic cat.Savannah cat - Wikipedia

How many strands of fur does the average house cat have?

About 40 million, give or take a few thousand, depending on the size of the cat. That’s a LOT of fur, and I promise you that most will shed about 20% of that on any given day, and will do so in places that afford maximum contrast to the cat’s coloring. I have a tortie, which means that she is an equal-opportunity shedder.

Are my manx kittens worth anything?

They aren't manx, and if yours didn't come with papers he's not either. It's very common for cats to have a stub of a tail, or no tail - that doesn't make them a Manx. Your kittens are worth the vet care you put into them prior to finding them a home, no more.
