Can you get a pilots license if you have epilepsy in America?

In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration generally prohibits anyone with epilepsy from being issued a pilot's license.

The exceptions:
- Seizures during childhood, but seizure-free since then with a normal EEG
- Those with Rolandic seizures may be allowed to fly if seizure-free for 4+ years
- Children who suffered a febrile seizure prior to the age of 5 may fly if off all seizure medication for 3+ years

Can a person who has epilepsy but who is blind still able to suffer seizures?

Yes.I assume you are speaking of photosensitive epilepsy, where rapidly flashing lights or certain patterns can trigger seizures. Most people who are legally blind still have some residual vision or light sensitivity, even if they can't make it details clearly. In that case, flashing lights could still be a trigger. In general, though, photosensitive epilepsy is rare; only about 3% of people with epilepsy are photosensitive[1]. For most people, including blind folks, seizures are triggered by lack of sleep, stress, alcohol, music, hormone changes, caffeine, low blood sugar, or just plain existing[2]. Much like migraines, it can be hard to track down the exact triggers for any one person.Footnotes[1] seizure triggers[2] Triggers of Seizures

I have Epilepsy and am wondering if I should drink Red Bull?

Hello
** I would ask you to take a can of red bull to your doctors office, so he can take a look at it.
** I have epilepsey, & also take tegretol, along with 2 other types of medications.
**You have to always read the labels on everything, it might take a little longer, but it's well worth you staying as healthy as you can.
**No alcohol at all, my doctor told me that with the alcoholic beverages, & tegretol, the mixture can kill us.
**Also, any type of artifical sweeteners will have a side-effect on us that are epileptics, I guess because our systems just can't take the junk!!
**Also, go to a health food store, & get a good brand of vitamins, & extra B-vitamins. We take vegetarian vitamins from The Whole Wheatery in Lancaster, Ca.
**Also, PLEASE make sure that you take you medications, at the SAME time each, & every day,
**taking my medications gets to be a habit, but, so I could start remembering when to take my medications, & which medication to take, WRITE A SCHEDULE OUT ON A PIECE OF PAPER, PUT THE TIMES, YOU TAKE YOUR MEDICATION, & WHICH MEDICATION YOU TAKE AT THAT TIME........
** I wrote a schedule out & it really has helped me, & my hubby can also look at the times I take them, so he knows too....

Take Care,

Are there any natural cures for epilepsy?

Give him these two Homeopathic remedies 3 times on the first day and after just once daily, ARNICA MONTANA and NATRIUM SULF both in 200 or 1M potency. Let me know about his progress after three days. 80% chances are he will fully recover if not let me know his details exactly the way he feels them. And please remember Homeopathy treats the patient and by curing the person it cures all the disease and disorders of that person. These two medicines won't cause him any complications and do not have any side effects. I am giving these two for the fall that he had and any internal damage that they may have caused.

Take Care and God Bless you and your loved ones.

How to file a complaint with Osco Pharmacy for refusing to give me medications?

Ok, this requires more details. I suffer from Epilepsy and I have been on Keppra and Klonopin 1mgx3/daily. I have been on these medications for 4 years now. I just recently transferred from Walgreens to Jewel/Osco. My doctor noted that I can not have generic Klonopin, so when I filled it, they didn't have many in stock so they gave me a few to hold me over. Finally, on October 15th, they filled my script, which was a total of 74 pills. or 24 1/2 days.
On day 24 I asked fro a refill and they said NO, I had to wait 30 days from the date of the prescription bottle, regardless of how many they pre-filled. I informed the pharmacist of how these were an epilepsy medication (as stated on the instructions my doctor wrote) and that I can't go without. He then informed me that they suspected I was a drug abuser and they don't fill prescriptions for people that abuse prescriptions.
I have never filled any scripts ahead of schedule, ever, so the basis on this is just the "prescription".

Why do people with epilepsy use the medical illness as an excuse to have seizures in public?

I can't believe you are seriously asking this question. It displays ignorance and intolerance and is insulting to all people who suffer from epilepsy. I can imagine how disgusted and intimidated you feel if you see someone having an epileptic "grand mal" seizure in public. You probably think this person is lacking good behavior and self control or maybe he/she is looking for attention. You have no fubbing idea! And yes indeed, when I had my first epileptic seizure, it was in a full train still waiting in the railway station, and I just couldn't hold it back. In fact, I was entering the train and in the next moment I was laying on the floor with a crowd of people starring down at me. I had no idea what was going on and why I was on the floor, and I just couldn't get up. My whole body was completely exhausted, I couldn't barely move. And I kept asking "what's going on here?", "what happened", trying to get up the whole time without success. Until then I thought it was a low blood pressure thing. Eventually one guy, who introduced himself as paramedic, told me that I had seizures and helped me up and out of the train. It was relieving to get help from a professional. He told me that the ambulance was under way and left me slowly recovering from the massive strain of the epileptic seizure. I realized that the train was leaving too late because of me. Eventually the ambulance arrived and took me to the hospital.I will never forget this feeling of suddenly laying on the floor not knowing what happened and not being able to get up, with a bunch of people staring down at me.So, just for the kick of experience and for education I wish you a single grand mal epileptic seizure. Maybe you are the one and only person who can hold it back by mental strength and good behavior in public.

I am epileptic. How can I save my marriage?

Sir, I have to say that I do not believe your epilepsy is the major cause of your issues, or better, your wife's issues. I believe she is using your "violent seizures" to justify for herself the desire to exit the marriage. I know all about violent seizures. Many years ago, I threw my wife across a room during a seizure. We have our issues with the marriage, but my seizures are only a piece of that. I have been seizure free for eight years and counting. But, our marital issues continue. You mention marriage counseling. Did you both attend, or was that a suggestion? You need to identify a counselor who specializes in couples. Regardless of the couples counseling, I would suggest you get into counseling for yourself. You need to cope better with your situation and the issues that are interfering with your day to day life (work, sleep, etc.)You need to find out from your wife what is truly at issue here. As if it is that she simply wants out, there is little you can do. Let her go and move on with your life. If this is about your seizures, get her to talk about her fears, with a counselor, if possible. A support group , or support forum, would benefit her. She could hear from other spouses about the challenges and joys of marriage, regardless of seizures. You want to be a father, great! Pursue that. Fatherhood is the greatest job you will ever have, and the hardest. Do not fear your seizures. Your child will learn to cope with them, protect you and defend you to others. You will be your child's hero, seizures may be a part of your lives, but need not control it. Remember, you deserve to enjoy life. That may mean without your current wife. Look at yourself and what you want. If that truly is your current wife, you have a long hard trek before you. Good luck, whatever road you venture down.

Non-epileptic seizures what is the danger of them?

Hi,

usually if someone only has one seizure, a diagnosis is not usually made either way as you have not had enough seizures to warrant a full evaluation with a neurologist. Also, a diagnosis can only be made after having an EEG, CAT/MRI scan, blood tests and full details taken from you and an eye witness of any previous seizures which hasn't happened.

The dangers with NES and Epilepsy are similar... however with Epilepsy, a prolonged seizure can cause severe brain damage and at worse death, whereas NES seizures cannot kill you directly from the seizure. If you drive, I suggest you don't for a little while to ensure that you are not starting to have regular seizures.

Physically though, it can be dangerous if you fall on hard ground like a pavement/sidewalk or fall downstairs then you can obviously land badly and hurt your head or other parts of your body.

I suggest to not panic at the moment, keep doing things as normal as possible as it might just be a one off.

I am sorry to hear about your brother and regarding his seizures, it may give an answer that you are also susceptible to having epilepsy also as it can run in families sometimes.

I hope I was able to help a little bit
