What is the Jain community? How can we convert?

Jin means a person who has conquered anger, ego, desires, greed. People who live their lives according to the principles laid down by Jin are Jains.Jainism as a religion emphasises on Ahimsa, and compassion. It is otherwise known as Daya Dharm. One who sees every life form as an equal and treats every life form in the way he would like to be treated by others. This is the ideal and conscious Jains try to achieve this level.By righteous living one can achieve the supreme state of God hood or moksha. Bad karma could lead to misery. Karma siddhant decides ones course of life. Our previous actions have led us to who we are today and our life situations - good or bad. And today’s thoughts, deeds and actions in such good or bad situations decide what happens to us in future. One who understands this and lives his life is a Jain. There is no need to convert.

Do we have Hindus/Jains in Pakistan? How do they live?

Yes. Jains and Hindus live in Pakistan. How do they live?Like other human beings. They are mostly concentrated in the Sindh province. Jains are a very small community (In terms of population). If it meant living conditions and other rights, it is not the best. They have very little voice. There are reports that talk about forced conversions. It says that girls are abducted and married to Muslim men. Some talk about mass conversions. They offer money and housing. The rise of Taliban has led to the persecution and discrimination of minorities. They have problems with representations. But recently they have named the first Hindu minister in two decades.According to the National Commission for Justice and Peace, Pakistani textbooks try to inculcate hatred towards Hindus. So, the conditions are not so great.

What is the number of Hindus living in Pakistan?

You can see that all Indians start with the same line when answering this question like quoting from the same text book. “ In Pakistan Hindus reduced from XX% to X% after 1947”. Conveniently not also quoting that Muslim population in many regions of India also declined by huge percentage due to exchange of populations. In the northern states of India like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana Muslims declined from 35% to less than 2%. While in India as a whole, Muslims declined from 24% in 1941 to 9% in 1947. There were nearly 14 million people that migrated during independence. Nearly 7 million Muslims migrated from India to Pakistan while nearly same number of Hindus and Sikhs migrated from Pakistan to India. Nearly 1 million were killed due to riots and the criminals from all sides took the opportunity to increase the violence. The Hindus constitute 1.6% numbering 3.5 million of Pakistan’s population.

Do Jains exist in Pakistan?

"No no no there arn't any. And thank God for it" were the words of a Pakistani co-writer of mine when I asked him the same question.   A year ago I used to write for an online magazine whose many articles were written jointly by writers from across the world and for that writers needed to get in "touch" with each other.  Courtesy to that I have got to interact with two Pakistanis till today and one of them was a Hindu now living in Berlin, Germany with his whole family.  He discussed with me in great details the pathetic condition of Hindu minority in Pak.He also informed me that almost all the Jains after partition migrated to Punjab in India and the few who decided to stay are now by all definitions Hindus.   Now. I must leave it you to decide if Jains can possibly by any means live in a religiously intolerant country like Pakistan.  However I think you might be interested in knowing that the history of Jainism in Pakistan dates back to the Indus valley civilization.   Even prior to partition there was an entire community of Jains called Bhabra based in Pak.  The remains of Jain temples are now either converted to islamic structures, ruins or being used for various official purposes.  Here's one from Tharparkar, Sindh area :Picture Source: Jain TempleEdit: Some people in the comment section are rather harshly (and wrongly) pointing out that the history of Jainism cannot go back to the Indus Valley Civilization. I’m having to delete those comments. It's ironic if you are one of them and wanted to comment on to let me know my “fault”. I invite you to please do some research of your own and then maybe we may have a healthy discussion over it.Therefore even though I'm not a huge fan of Wikipedia articles here's one for a good start: History of Jainism - Wikipedia.Have a nice day.

As a Pakistani how can I help my Jain brothers to get freedom from Hindu India?

First I would like to tell you that all of us are Hindus. Even a Pakistani is a Hindu. Hindu is not a religion, all the people living around the river Sindhu are Hindu. The true name of the religion which you mean by Hindu is “Sanatan Dharam”.source: Meaning and Origin Of The WordNow coming to your question. Have we ever said that we need a separate Nation? We were born in India and will die here only. India is our mother. We will never leave our Mother India. All the Indians of all the religions are our brothers only.If you(Pakistani) will ever do anything bad to India or Indians, we are not going to spare you.The best example is of Abhinandan Varthaman. He has given a lesson to Pakistan which was needed. He is an Indian Soldier. Though the soldiers don’t belong to any religion, he was born in a Jain family. We do respect all the soldiers irrespective of their religion. Some people would ask me why I posted this. The reason being people think of our Principle of Ahimsa as cowardness. But I would also like to tell you that we can use weapons for the country.Jai Hind! Bharat Mata ki Jai!

What will happen if a naked Jain monk roam on the street of Pakistan?

If this chance will come, I believe the power and essence of Jainism, will for sure bring followers from among them… If in case, some worst situation will occur, monks can accept the vow of Samadhi Maran (the holy death). But, believe me as some muslim text mentions, everyone is afraid of allah but, allah is afraid of a naked sage as allah can revoke anything from anyone but, what allah will take from a naked sage…

Are there any Jains remaining in Pakistan or Afghanistan?

Probably there are no Jains remaining in the Pakistan or Afghanistan. But 60–70 years, before independence, there were Jains population living over there as Jain Dharm also exist there. The Mohenjodaro & Harappan Civilization of Pakistan belongs to Jain as there are the signs of the Jain Teerthankar idols & statues. After independence, the idols of the Jain Teerthankars from one of the temples of Pakistan were bought to the Multaan Mandir, Aadarsh Nagar, Jaipur, beacuse if these were present there in Pakistan, they will either be ruined by the Momdens or Pakistanis as well as after independence, there is no Jain left over there to take care of them & to do worship. So, they (Jains) thought it was better to take from there & place them to Bharat. While they were kept in the helicopter, the helicopter becomes heavy that it was not in the condition to be flying. Then all the men from helicopter were landed over there, only one or two sat to bought that idols to India. Although they remove all their luggage from the helicopter. From this incidence, there are no Jains left over either in Pakistan or Afghanistan.
