How Many Times More Powerful Is The Ps4 Than The Ps3

How many times more computing power does the PS4 have compared to the PS1?

It’s a lot powerful. There has been a tremendous advancement in the gaming consoles in past 3-4 years, and as a result, you can find some really powerful consoles like Project Scorpio, PS4 Pro, Xbox One S etc. in the market right now.PS1 (1994 - 102 million units sold)CPU - 32-bit MIPS (33mhz)GPU - 32-bit R800A (33mhz)System RAM - 2mbVideo RAM - 1mbResolution - 640x480 (SD)Media - CD-ROMPS4Main processorSingle-chip custom processorCPU : x86-64 AMD “Jaguar”, 8 coresGPU : 1.84 TFLOPS, AMD Radeon™ based graphics engineMemoryGDDR5 8GBStorage size*500GB, 1TBExternal dimensionsApprox. 265×39×288 mm (width × height × length)  (excludes largest projection)MassApprox. 2.1 kgBD/ DVD drive (read only)BD × 6 CAV DVD × 8 CAVInput/ OutputSuper-Speed USB (USB 3.1 Gen1) port × 2  AUX port × 1NetworkingEthernet(10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T)×1IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/acBluetooth®v4.0PowerAC 100-240V, 50/60HzPower consumptionMax. 165WOperating Temperature5 ºC – 35ºCAV output : HDMI

How much more powerful would the PS4 have been if Sony had chosen an IBM processor instead?

Probably not much difference. Sony doesn't have to change providers to achieve more power, they could've simply chosen a better Graphics Card from AMD.The PS4's graphical power is around the same as a Radeon HD 7850/7870 - these cards are over two years old in the PC world.

Could the PS4 have been made more powerful without making it more costly to produce?

Depends on your definition of power. Sony could conceivable squeeze their components providers for a better deal and thus be able to sell the ps4 in existing hardware config at a lower price. Also, if power is e.g better graphics, Sony could have made concessions elsewhere e.g (ram, storage, CPU) and use the savings for a better GPU tech. So, sure they could do it.

Should I get a PS4 or stick with PS3?

It really depends. If you want a console that has much better graphics and that is much more powerful, get a PS4 now, but it they don't mean much to you, I suggest to wait a while. Sure the PS4 looks nice, but the real problem right now is that there just aren't enough games that make the PS4 worth the purchase, because most games are also available on PS3. Exclusive PS4 games like Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack look stunning in terms of graphics, but in my opinion, those two games are more boring than fun. I can only recommend getting a PS4 right now only if graphics and power mean to you. Otherwise, just wait until more games come out. Also, there are plenty of PS3 games coming this year.

Can you play PS4 games on a PS3 console?

Really? I guess it’s kind of a fair question… to an extent, but didn’t you think this through? Why would they make a PS4 if all those games could be played on a PS3 console?Sure, the PS3 was pretty powerful, despite having 512mbs of RAM (Yes, you read that right), but it doesn’t come even close to the power of a PS4. But even that’s besides the point.EVEN, hypothetically, EVEN if a PS3 could run PS4 games from a hardware standpoint, why would Sony allow it? They thrive off console sales. They create software/games to push hardware sales further. That’s how they make money. If suddenly every game available on the PS4 was availabe on the PS3 as well, don’t you think it would have screwed their sales and profits over?I understand WHY you might have asked this question, I really do. I’m guessing you either have a PS3 and not enough money for a PS4, or you don’t have either, but have just enough money for a PS3. And to that, I say - Drakemall. Look it up.

Is the Nintendo Switch more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360?

Yes, it’s a lot more powerful. It’s more close in power to the current PS4 and Xbox one. Here’s a simple comparison cheat to understand just how big the jump really are.Let’s look at a few games to:

Why doesn't the PS4 have backwards compatibility for PS3 games?

The problem is between cost and performance.Cost: They would need to run a ps3 chip in the ps4 which would be much more expensive. They did this with the ps2 and 3. It's the reason the ps3 shipped at a silly price.Performance: without a chip, you would emulate the games, this requires something along the lines of 5-10x the performance of the ps3. The ps4 would of been much bigger, louder and costly to do this.Lastly the ps3 used a different game code that is normally used. A mistake which they have rectified with the ps4.Side note. The easiest but not the optimal way is to stream the games. Meaning your console is not processing the game but reviving a constant stream of the game. This is PlayStation Now see. Great concept by the way. However in practice it is not great, good but not good enough for most people. I feel like the games look and feel worse than they did on the ps3, when streamed to a ps4. I tried the trial, played half a dozen games. So there you go. I would bet on a good backwards capability for the ps5 to 4 when that all happens in half a decade or so. (An educated guess, I don't actually know)

Why does PSN on PS4 suffer more outages than PS3?

Does it really? Probably not the best person to ask, as I rarely play online. When the network is down it doesn't affect my gaming, I just play something else.I look back on the year and the only signicant outage was over the holiday period in December, and you can hardly hold them to account when it was the work of a hacker purposefully aiming to shut down the system. It was a pain in the arse, and a lot of people would have been affected, especially those who received a PS4 as a gift, but Sony were victims in this too, if you want to get shitty, get mad at the wankers that decided to ruin everyone's holidays.
