For years I’ve always heard the 7 to 15 year estimate … but I have units in my house that are over 22 years old and still maintaining the seals …we used Bostik brand polyurethane and aluminum spacer with molseive desiccant in the long sides… we washed the glass with a Bilco 84” washer using Surfcon 300 detergent….we changed to Basic H in 2008 which seems to have done a good job, not to mention it being less acidic and less issues with corrosion in our washer.We have many IG units out there, and to see them with 30 years on them is not unheard of….I do know from experience that the Bostik sealant was the best…

What is “low emissivity” in relation to windows?
Although this is being asked under Operating Systems Im guessing you mean windows, as in physical glass windows. Insulated Glass Windows have coatings that keep radient infrared energy from mainly entering through it while letting visible light pass. So a window with low emissivity keeps most of the radient infrared energy from passing through.
What would taking out the allen bolt in this window restrictor do?
Note that in many locations, the restrictor is required by building codes when the window sill is below a certain height (42", typically). This is to stop children from climbing out the window.So removing the restrictor bar might not be the action which would be taken by a "person, acting reasonably" to uphold their duty of care towards trespassing children, and that in turn might have very negative consequences for you, personally, since your homeowners insurance would no longer cover that liability. Short answer: don't do this.

Aluminum clad windows generally require less maintenance (painting). I happen to have painted wooden Windows on my house and they've been painted twice since the original construction and I've been here 30 years. If they were aluminum clad it is likely no painting would yet be required.If you are referring to varnished wood in full sun expect to repost every 2–3 years with shaded areas being longer than a decade. I have some of those too and they look great but the sun requires a maintenance regimen. The ones below have a direct southern exposure.
