The furloughed workers should Not protest and march on the White House.This situation could be resolved by the Democrats Now.Historically once it is over the workers will get back their jobs and their lost wages.If workers should protest anyone it is the Senate Democrats who refused to allow a vote on the CR that passed the Republican House and contained 5 B for the wall.The following details how the Senate process works for spending bills like the Continuing Resolution which contained the funds to operate the departments that did not have an approved budget.The Republican senate had 51 votes last year and could have passed the CR which President was ready to sign and avoiding the shutdown.It takes 60 votes to stop a filibuster and have a cloture vote to allow the CR to go the senate floor for a vote .Republicans were prevented from voting on the CR by the DemocratsWhat prevented the vote was at 9 Democratic votes needed to get to 60 votes.Not one democrat voted to end the filibuster .As a result the CR and funding bills did not get to the Senate floor and the Omnibus bill died.Without a funding bill the departments ran out ran out of authorized funds on December 21.The negotiations between the President and Congress then broke down .The president was forced by law to shutdown the departments that had no budgets approved ,furlough the workers and stop paying wages to 800,000 federal workers because the appropriated funds ran out.I agree that it was the President who actually ordered the partial shutdown and stopped paying the wages .He was required to do it by law because Democrats refused to allow a vote on the 5B border funding.It was the actions of Chuck Schumer and the senate democrats who refused to allow a vote on the CR that caused the President to take the actions he took.To get the CR approved and signed by the President And end the partial shutdown you should call Chuck Schumer’s and your Democratic senators.Visit their offices and tell them you want a border wall .Only the Dems have the power to pass the CR and fund the wall.

That's a great strategy in theory, except that Donald Trump isn't a complete idiot when it comes to negotiating deals. He knows that the moment he reopens the government, he's lost every bargaining chip he has on the table. He knows that there's no way in hell the Democrats would even consider negotiating a deal for a wall if the government was reopened.The government shutdown has severely affected Trump’s approval ratings, but it has also severely affected Democrats’ approval ratings. He knows that it's much harder to win an election against an incumbent than against a new candidate. Therefore, he knows he can force the Democrats to the negotiating table while they both still have some credibility left.If he were to reopen the government, no deal would be reached and he'd lose a lot of his voting base. If he keeps the government closed, he destroys the Democrats’ chances of beating him in 2020 with every week that goes by.
