How Much Can I Charge For Dog Sitting

How much should I charge for dog sitting?

12 dollars an hour for 24 hours ??? that is nuts ... that is almost 300 dollars a day ... no one is going to pay that ... i have worked as a dog sitter for six years and i charge 40 dollars a day (and night) for one dog ... if they have more than one dog i add 5 dollars extra for a small dog and 10 dollars extra per dog for large dogs ... if i was sitting those dogs i would charge $70 a day (and night) ... you can also check your local craigslist pet services section and see what dog sitters are charging where you live ... also often vets will have dog sitters they can refer and you could call and inquire as to their rates ... four dogs is a lot of work so they should pay up :O)

How much should I charge for pet sitting?

First you should calculate your break even cost. How much in gas does it cost to visit the house three times a day. Lets just say that cost $10/day.  So of course you should charge more than $10.  Then calculate how much time. . .30 x 3 = 90 minutes.  How much do you think you should make for 90 minutes of your time.  Lets just say $30, so at minimum  you need to charge $40, Are you going to report this income on your tax forms?  Or is it just cash in hand.  Let's say you're going to report this as income. . .then you need to add more on top of that.Pricing is subjective. Do you absolutely love these dog and they are well behaved?  Then maybe you can charge less.   Is this more like a favor, or will there be repeat business from this person.  Are these dogs horrible to watch?  Don't walk well on the leash, jump up and down and are a nuisance? Then you'd probably charge more. What you personally feel like charging takes all these into account. For me, I don't like driving around.  Three times a day really breaks up my schedule and I don't have the freedom to plan things if I have to be somewhere three times a day. For me this would be worth $75 . . .but thats just me.  Maybe visiting this house is very close by, and you don't mind driving, so you could charge less.

How much should I charge for pet sitting?

Hopefully I can help you out. I own a professional pet sitting service as well as kennels, and doggy day care. First and foremost, if you are going to do this, and you are strating a business, you really must be bonded and insured. If you are doing it for a family member or friend, and you are not planning to do this for a living that is a different story. Remeber you are responsible for the pet, as well as the owners home while you are being employed by them. You did not mention miles away from you, and time involved, travel, etc.
As we all know the cost of gas is over the moon, will you be driving 2 times daily, or, are you withn walking distance? Either way you have to consider the amount of time, and what the owners want you to do.
I also am a member of PET SITTERS INTERNATIONAL, and I do get alot of pricing info from them.
When I begin a pet sitting job, I meet the dog maybe 2-3 days before I start. I also go over my price list, as well as letting the owner know my quailafactions. Will you have to be giving the pet any meds, or shots, and are you able to give shots?
Many people don't realize what is really involved with the service. Depending on what part of the country you live in has a lot to do with you charges.
To be fair to you and the owners, I would most likely charge $18.00 for 2 visits. I would probably walk the dog, feed the dog, give meds if needed, make sure NO messes in the house. It would probably be at least a 45 minute visit. Sometimnes the owners ask you to pick up mail and newspaprer, or, even take the trash out. I know $18.00 for 2 visits may not sound like it is enough, but by most areas, it is a fair price.
Good Luck, and I hope this helps.

How much do people charge for dog sitting?

~ I charge $7.00 for small dogs and $9-10.00 for large dogs. In my home.

I have a friend that has a full facility and staff and charges $30-35.00 a night.

I guess you charge based on how much of an inconvenience it is. If you know this person and you do not do this, it is just a favor then I wouldn't be greedy, you will probably enjoy spending time with their dog.

What is a good price to charge for dog sitting?

Without any further context I will address this question in a couple of ways. 1)     If you are growing this as a potential business for yourself then the key pricing question (assuming you have done some homework on the market potential and so on) is how elastic the price of this service is. Are there other people who can provide this service? Does it require any specialist skills? Is there high demand? Is location and timing important? Next step is to build a price including your input costs: how long will you have the dog for, will you need to provide food, shelter (baskets/blankets) or other needs to keep it healthy and happy (what about insurance or VET bills if something happens to the dog, if you’re liable? Is the dog house trained - this could be a cost!). Then there is your time: A big mistake that entrepreneurs in the start-up phase make is not charging for their own time. At least pay yourself the minimum wage, or a wage for a comparable job, for example the hourly rate if you worked in say, a kennel or performed a similar "caring" service. Then you can build your price.2)     If you are doing this as a once off, then you can apply some of the above principles, but you need to ask yourself “is this a favour” for someone you know personally, in which case I would apply a “reasonable” flat rate like you would do if baby-sitting as a once off (what's the going rate? $10/20/30 p.h.?). You could of course opt to charge more if it is an “emergency”, and the customer has no other option. Though you may not get further business from him/her.3)     A final option to think about, particularly if related to 2 above, is to consider a barter option. If this person is known to you, maybe he/she can provide something in return that is more valuable than money (and I don’t mean “friendship”!). For example, if you had children, you could opt to do a swap “I’ll mind your dog on X day, if you mind my kids on Y day”. It could be something else “Oh I hear you are great at DIY/Electrics, would you mind taking a look at X” in exchange for minding the dog. When providing a local service in the community, it's easy to overlook the barter option.4)     Do it as a labour of love: If you like minding dogs and get satisfaction out of it, and the cost on your time and resources isn’t too high, then maybe you could do it for free. Some ideas to think about.

How much to charge for long-term dog sitting?

Yeah, no, I wasn't some killer trainer at PetCo. I've been professionally trained, and had a wonderful experience at my former store. Thanks for the faith.
I am currently with Rover.com, a website that offers pet/sitter insurance (which I gladly bought), and the owners that I work with can leave reviews on me, and vice versa.
This is a very informal thing I have going here-- not a business, no "official license"-- and I don't make half of the minimum pay that requires you to file for taxes.
I've worked with this couple many times before, and she has my reference information.

I have been searching and looking at other companies' rates, and the closest place she would go is probably her local PetSmart, which usually charges $14-20 a night, depending on the type of dog. That includes being housed in a kennel (option to pay a fee for a larger suite), being surrounded by strange dogs and people, and having little to no outside time.

How much should I charge to dog sit one dog?

I used to offer pet sitting as one of my service lines and had per visit rates as well as daily and overnight rates. Going back and forth to this person's house 4-7 times a day is going to be a lot of visits in 2 weeks. I would suggest you consider staying there for the better part of the day and charging a daily rate. If this pet owner boarded his or her dog, it would cost about $12-15 per day, maybe more. I would think that $20-25 per day would be a fair rate for someone your age staying the better part of the day to watch, feed, play with, and walk one dog. If you charged $10-15 per visit this would cost the owner as much as $1470 for the two week period, which is unreasonable. Even if the owner can afford that sum, it would be unethical to charge that much.

How much do I charge someone for pet sitting?

It sounds more like you need to say no to your boss rather than pet sit. He is crossing a boundary asking such of you, not only because of the nature of his animals, but because he shouldn't want anyone taking care of his pets unless they really love animals. The cat probably peed out of stress being in an unfamiliar place with someone they can feel is resentful. Your boss is being irresponsible and you need to find a way to say that you can't do this for him or her. Perhaps find a bonded agency that you can refer him or her to.
