How Much Can I Get For A Gm 3100 Engine At A Scrap Yard

Is it ever worth fixing a car with a blown engine?

It depends on the model of car. Many Japanese designed cars can have a blown engine swapped with a tested low mileage used engine. The expense can be well worth it.There are also cars that have reliable chassis and drive trains that are worthy of an engine swap. If you know the condition and use and repair history of the rest of the vehicle, a crate engine can be worthwhile. If the engine in my 2002 GMC Yukon with 245k miles on it gave out, I would spend the $4500 to $5000 to put a crate engine in it. I know the condition of the vehicle and know it would keep driving for another 250,000 miles with just usual maintenance and repairs. If the engine blew prematurely and you can prevent a occurrence, like neglecting to change a timing belt on an interference engine cause valve train failure or running out of oil causing bearing or push rod failure, a engine swap can be worthwhile is the car will have a good value repaired. But, a blown engine on a Hyundai or Kia is not worth the expense.A Honda or Toyota is often worth a used engine swap.

What exactly is a 3400 SFI Engine?

Okay so i have a 2004 Pontiac Grand AM. I was kinda thinking of becoming a mechanic but im going to be honest and say i don't really know anything about engines =/ So i i figured i would start by looking at my own car. The engine shows its a 3400 SFI. i really don't know what that means? im guessing its a 3.4 liter but i don't even know what that is either. So i was just wondering if anyone could just kind of give me a short engine 101 on what all that means. Ohh and my cars a V6, I do know the difference between the different ones.

Can a 3800 alternator fit a 3100 engine?

What do you mean you can't find an alternator for a 3.1? Just go to your local parts store...unless of course you're trying to buy a used one which is just comical. ANY parts store can get you the proper one...any of them.

..but yes they're the same part number, at least on Autozone's site they were.

Where can I find an evap canister/purge solenoid for my car?

I have a 1989 Chevrolet Beretta GT, 2.8L, auto trans.
The purge solenoid on the evaporative emissions fuel vapor canister has quit working and I need to find a replacement. I've gone to every auto parts store I can think of and they all give me the same answer: "That part is not available to us."
I've searched online and got the same results...nothing available. I've even gone to a Chevrolet dealership parts department to look for one. The dealership did a nationwide search for me and came up with nothing.
The Beretta was manufactured for 10 years so you would think that there should be parts available for them even if it's an aftermarket part. Cars that I've located in salvage yards either have non functioning purge solenoid valves or someone has already removed the entire unit.
Does anyone know where I can find something to replace the part that I need? I've exhausted all my resources.
The fuel vapor canister and purge solenoid valve are considered one unit. The identifying number on the top of the canister is: 17088154 LT
This is a serious question so if you're planning on leaving some stupid, smart a$$ answer, don't bother.
Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

I Need a wiring diagram for a ignition control module for a 93 Chevy Lumina APV 3.1 engine.?

The wiring diagrams are available online at GM or any other make you want. This will not be the problem however. What you need to do is get a replacement distributor or the plastic connector that broke. I have never been able to find these connectors, plus there will be a lot of the green corrosion on the connectors which can cause further ignition problems. Cut you losses, return the module, and get a completely overhauled distributor for this unit from your local autovalue or somewhere else. Distributors are really easy to replace, just mark them where they come out, and time the motor after replacement properly. Good luck.
