How Much Clothes Should I Bring To College

How much clothes should I pack for college?

I'm going away for college about 16 hours away so I need to bring everything I need with me the first time. I'm bringing four HUGE plastic bins. 2 have all my dorm stuff and the other two have all my clothes. I have another suitcase for my summer and winter shoes. Are two bins full of clothes too much to bring? They're packed really tightly too. Any advice for how to condense dorm stuff when you live so far away would be helpful. Thanks!!

Am I bringing TOO many clothes to college? What would you bring?

Depends on how often you plan on doing laundry. I am a very light packer and I do my laundry every week (most college students probably don't) so I take significantly less than you. But I don't think that's totally unreasonable. You also have to take into consideration how much closet space you will have in your dorm room... remember, dorms are small and you will have to share with at least one other roommate so be considerate...

How much clothing should I bring to college?

Pretty much enough to get by for around 2 weeks. (14 days, obviously)

So around 3-4 pairs of jeans (You can wear them for 2 days, it's not like they're going to be covered in dirt and mud, they're just touching your skin.)
2 pairs of some type of formals pants.
Around 5 pairs of any comfortable pants to just wear around. (Bermudas, short shorts, skirts anything.)

Around 10-15 Regular Shirts, about 5 camis, and 2 long-sleeved shirts.
About 7 formal-wear clothes.

2-4 Jackets/Sweaters depending on how cold you get.

And bring enough personal items (Bras, underwear, etc.) to last for at least 2 weeks without washing.

Overall just try to bring as much as possible. I know you might feel tired overpacking and having so many clothes, but it's definitely worth it. That up there I posted should be around a minimum, you should try to bring more than that.
At first, you'll probably be like, "Gosh, why did I bring so many clothes? They're just taking up room."
Well, after a few weeks, you'll be tired of going to the washer and you'll be glad of it. Anyway, if you feel like you've packed too much, you can always go to the city's donation center and donate a few clothes.

Too many clothes to bring to college. how many suitcases should i bring?

I'm going off to college soon and its up north,so, I'll need clothes for all seasons. How many clothes do you need for college?

Enough for you to be able to rotate clothes. As others have already pointed out, have clothes that you can wear for presentations, for dinner dates, for when you have to do internships and for when the season changes.I cannot give you numbers since I don’t know how often you’d want to wear your items before you launder them, but generally, I would say go for a mix of t-shirts, long sleeved button down shirts, polo shirts, chinos, jeans, sweaters, and jackets. You don’t really need a lot.If you want to make your life simple, get a trademark look. You can do all black, black shirt, black jeans, black pants or white and black. I’ve even known of people, guys, who only had 3 pairs of jeans that they rotated for 2 years.Like I said in my other answer to a somewhat similar question, you’ll be busy studying and spending your money on books and other college-related expenses that you probably won’t even have time to focus or spend your money on clothing.

How many clothes should I pack for college?

That looks like a lot to me.

If it were me, I'd be taking about 10 outfits that I would be likely to wear on ordinary days, including short-sleeved shirts and warmer things, like sweatshirts and sweaters, to add on top. That would be enough for me to do my laundry on the same day every week and still have clean clothes every days. I'd bring enough clothes for working out to get through a week (you'll be changing into your regular clothes to do laundry, in all likelihood, so you don't need more than 7).

Then I'd bring a couple of dressier outfits -- more if you are planning to live a lifestyle where those will be necessary on a regular basis -- and enough sleepwear, again, to get through a week (you can probably wear the same shorts or pajama pants a couple of times).

I'd bring one coat or jacket that can fit over a sweatshirt or sweater over a shirt and that will be warm enough for November and one dressier coat or jacket. On warmer days, you can wear that coat or jacket over just a shirt.

There is no way I'd bring 20 pairs of shoes. You should be able to pick out one or two pairs of dressier shoes that go with all of your dressy outfits, and then a few pairs of shoes for everyday use.

I recognize that you are probably more concerned with what you're wearing than I was, and you'll probably want a bit more than I did. But I think you can probably cut that list a lot and still be happy with what you have on hand.

If you are living in a dorm, you are not going to have very much space to keep your stuff in, and if you find you want and/or need something you didn't bring, it can be mailed to you. That will be a lot easier than trying to haul all of this stuff to school, finding a place to store it, and then hauling it all back.

Should I bring my whole closet to college?

I soon would be attending Fashion college in New York City. I live in Florida. I really want to bring my whole closet. It is not very summery. I feel it can be worn it winter as well, but can I? I am sure that the closet will be small and I have tons of clothes, so how can I?

How many shirts should I bring to college?

I would probably say about 1 or 2 weeks worth, you don't want to be mundane or be wearing dirty shirts, but space is very limited. I would also swap them out when you go home for breaks.
