How Much Cost To Put Dog Sleep

Have you ever had to put your dog to sleep?

My parents have two Great Danes, a male and a female both siblings. The female dog might have skin cancer and the male dog has cysts growing all over his body that will eventually turn into tumors. It's going to cost my parents thousands of dollars to remove the cysts and the vet said they will continue to come back and continuously cost my parents thousands of dollars (It's common in the Great Dane breed for them to get cysts) The female dog might have cancer, but the vet is running tests.
My dad refuses to be in the room if they both have to be put to sleep. My mom did it with our other Great Dane when he was much older. I told my dad that I wanted to be there. Now thinking about it, I am scared to see the life taken out of their eyes, knowing that when I go over to my parents house that they won't be there to bark at me when I first walk in and try to lick me. I practically raised these dogs and I was the one who took care of them the most. My son has always loved them and knows how to say their names and gets super excited to see them. I am scared that I will not be able to handle being in the room, but I really want to.

Is there anything I should be prepared for?

How much does it cost to put a dog to sleep and who does it?

my vet does this for $40...and takes care of the body, unless the client prefers to take it home for burial.
It is totally painless, as the vet gives a sedative, which makes the dog relax, and then the shot that puts them to sleep..Vets usually encourage the owner to stay with the dog, and stroke it..and to see how peacefully they go... some vets will come to the home to do this..

How much does it cost to put a dog down?

If you've taken your dog to the same vet for awhile, there's a good chance he won't charge you for putting your dog down. It's the last service they can perform for their patient.

I need to put my dog to sleep. humane society questions!?

If you call your local animal shelter and tell them what you need and explain that you do not have money to take her to a vet for this, they will usually do it free of charge. I used to be a humane officer, but this is the very reason I had to give it up. I was expected to be able to do this and when it came to me watching it be done to learn, I could not handle it emotionally. I will however tell you this. The procedure that the animal shelters use is not as good as the one your vet will use. I would rather pay the fee and take mine to the vet. They will keep the body if you like, or you can bring it home and bury it. Just remember that the body is simply that, she will be gone to a much more pleasant place. I know it is painful for us, but they are much better off, you are making the right decision. I am sorry.

How much do vets usually charge to put a dog to sleep?

Depends on the vet and your history. If it's the family vet that your dog has gone to her entire life, they may not charge you, especially if you have other animals or would get a new dog and continue to use their services. The vet I worked for never charged his regulars.

If if was someone he'd never seen before he would have to confirm the diagnosis, or at least make sure you weren't just bringing in an animal you didn't want anymore, so he'd charge for an office visit (~$30) and another fee for the euthanasia solution, which would be minimal in a small dog. This was several years ago, I think he charged around $10-$12, but it could be more now.

I'm sorry for your impending loss...
