How Much Did You Earn When You Started Work

When did you start working and what was your first job?

I was 17 when I got my first job, right before my senior year of high school. My parents have owned a smaller commercial construction firm for the past 26 years. So as my first job, my dad decided that I’d start helping out with project estimating. It was more like…Dad: “You’re gonna start working 8:30 to 5 for the summer starting on Monday.”Me: “Oh…uh, okay.”He brought me in and started with the basics:This is storefront, this is curtain wall…This is a mullion, this is a head, this is a sill…Add one inch to the width and height of the glass, then round up to the next even number to get the block size…This is how you read architectural blueprints…Blah blah blah.I sucked at first. Really badly. This was my very first exposure to anything construction related. It was a lot of detail to take in, and hardly any of it made sense. It took me a long, long, long, time (and many silly and sometimes costly mistakes) before I started to get the hang of how everything tied together. But now I do 95% of our estimating on my own, have secured the company millions of dollars worth of work, and I make a commission on the work that we’re awarded, so I must be doing something right after all this time.

When did you started working. What age?

Well then I'd say you're also starting to become very astute! I started working at 14, daycare center. Paid taxes and everything. Get off your lazy bum.

At what age do doctors start to earn money?

I'm assuming you mean "a lot of money."It depends on when you started. Assuming you do everything right and you get into med school at 22, you'll graduate at 26.Then you start residency. The shortest residency is 3 years. So you can start earning "money" at 29.I started my residency at 28 and I'm doing a 4-year residency, so I won't be earning "money" until i'm 32.Sometimes your training is rather long, especially if you want to do a fellowship. Let's say you want to be a hepatologist (liver doctor). You'll do:- 4 years of undergrad- 4 years of med school- 3 years of internal medicine residency- 3 years of gastroenterology fellowship- 2 years of hepatology fellowshipAs a first year resident you earn about 50K. This varies depending on where you live. You'll probably earn about 10K more per year if you live in Boston... but you're better off making 50K in Omaha than 60K in Boston. On average, your salary will increase by about 2K yearly. If you do long fellowships, you'll likely earn about $70k by the time you're finished. When you're finished with all that, you'll get your first staff/attending level job. You earn more for working in private practice than you do in academia. You earn more for working in a smaller town than you do in a large city, since the job market in the latter is likely to be more saturated.Depending on your specialty, after a year or two working with a group, you can buy into the practice. You shell out a certain amount of money to become a partner and from then on the profits of the group that are shared among shareholders are shared with you.The structure of your earnings can also vary depending on whether you get a base salary with productivity bonuses (for seeing more patients and doing more procedures) or an all-productivity structure.

Can I file taxes if I started working this December?

You can. Whether you get anything back depends on how much you made, what you had withheld, and whether YOU can be claimed as a dependent. Who did you live with this year, and for how long? Who supported you, since you weren't working until now?

Centrelink New start allowance and casual work?

Hi Crystal, my name's Marian and I work at the Department of Human Services in a team answering questions about Centrelink posted in online forums, and through social media.

Fortnightly income between $62 and $250 will reduce your fortnightly allowance by 50 cents in the dollar. For income above $250 per fortnight, your fortnightly allowance will reduce by 60 cents in the dollar.

There's an online estimator on the Centrelink website that will give you an idea of what you are eligible for in different circumstances, check it out here; http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/individuals/online_estimators.htm

Most Newstart recipients have participation requirements to accept suitable job offers. Not doing this can result in a serious failure and a non-payment period. There's more information about participation requirements here; http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/payments/newstart_activity_test.htm

Doing a small amount of work might seem like it's not helping, but it benefits you both financially and by giving you experience and making you job-ready for when a more suitable offer comes along.

All the best.

How much do you earn with your freelance work every month?

I’m 19. I started part time freelancing about 1 and half year back alongside being in college.I am a freelance web designer. The amount I earn per project is not fixed and depends on the scope of the project. However, an average project can be anywhere 500$ for a landing page or 2000–4000$ for a big website with other features. This brings the monthly earning to 1 lac plus rupees easily even if I just take around 2 projects. But, then, it's important to mention that it's really hard to get these 2 good projects each month, atleast for me. So one month you can be earning a lac rupees but the next 3 months, you may not.But is there a constant income flow? No, because being a freelancer, you rely on the availability of projects. For me freelancing is just a way to earn some extra cash to support my expenses without adding any burden to my parents. That's the sole reason I went into it. I have no plans of making it full time or to drop on my studies to do that full time, because in India to be honest, its really hard to earn a viable income solely through this means.
