How Much Do Alterations Cost

Prom dress alterations?

That is an awesome dress...I've never seen anything like it.

I have gotten alterations done on a few of my dresses, none of mine were that extensive though. If you find a good seamstress, I'm sure it could be done. Maybe go to the store you bought it from, or find one by word-of-mouth so you know you have some kind of recommendation.

THey can be expensive but i am pretty sure it just depends on WHO is doing the alterations. I had a dress with some detail in the back and she was really worried about messing it up when she altered it, but everything worked out fine and the dress fit like a glove!
I know that probably doesn't help very much but in all honesty you will just need to get an expert opinion.
Good luck!

edit- after reading the first comment, it probably varies from dress to dress but I know for a fact one girl I went to prom with had her dress sized from a TWELVE to a four. (Just some words of comfort) :)

How much do clothing alterations cost, on average?

The cost of alterations varies by provider. I was lucky to find a good tailor who would charge $5–10 for hemming, $15 for a simple dress alteration. We both felt this was fair. I’d advise you to look for a “seamstress,” or “clothing alterations” rather than a “tailor” (a $35 hemming on a skirt!) unless you need a complex garment reconstruction. Some stores will include alterations with the sale of some full-priced items.Once you find your alterations person, treat them well! Holiday and birthday money gifts are appropriate for the person who elevates your off-the-rack wardrobe into something special.

What should clothing alterations cost? How do you know if you are being overcharged?

Altering clothing can sometimes be quite time consuming. The price depends in part on the complexity of the labor. Hemming a basic pair of cotton work pants for an auto mechanic uniform will take less time than hemming a pair of women's trousers that have a lining to hem as well. Items like lined jackets will take more time than tapering a dress shirt for a man or woman because of the amount of time to open the lining and possibly adjust several locations on minor ways more precisely to achieve a good fit than simply adding a couple of darts or tucks in a single layer of fabric. Many people discover that having a garment altered can cost far more than the price of a sweatshop produced garment purchased off the rack in a big box store. If the item is of good quality and you will get sufficient use from it to justify the purchase price plus any needed slteration, then get the work done. However, realize that you are contracting for skilled labor from a person who if properly trained took years to learn those skills. They have to factor in the other costs of doing business like equipment, workspace rental, advertising and self-employment taxes on top of a fair hourly wage. Prices will vary depending on the city or neighborhood as well as other factors. Shop around but do not expect to get skilled labor at minimum wage or sweatshop levels in the US if that is your location. In sewing, you might find a person who says that they can do a task for a low amount only to discover that they just bought a machine at Walmart two months ago and started advertising for "clients" without knowing the basics that could be learned by mastering what is in a basic sewing manual. I see questions from such people in online sewing groups daily.

How much does it cost for a formal dress alteration?

I have a formal event coming up and the dress I'm wearing is a few centimetres too wide around the waist. I'd like to have it a bit tighter. I'm a teenager, so I'm not rich. How much will it cost for it to be taken in a few centimetres at a tailor? Thanks. :)

What's the average cost of wedding dress alterations?

Asking how much alterations cost  (a question I get regularly from new customers) is like asking how much car repairs cost...but without discussing even what kind of car you have and what is wrong with it. You could spend anywhere from $50-$500 on alterations or more but there are many, many factors that a seamstress will consider before giving you an estimate including:1. What needs to be done? Are we just hemming? (And if so, how many layers, how much material and what kind of fabric?) Taking in? Letting out? Changing something about the style? Removing/adding embellishments? 2. How is the dress put together? This includes looking at the pattern, the seams, layers/lining, placement of embellishments, etc. 3. What material is the dress made of? i.e. Chiffon is much harder to work with than cotton. A lace or sheer overlay can make a huge difference as well. 4. Skill level of the seamstress and overhead. Someone with more experience and skill operating a nice shop must charge more than a grandma working out of her sewing room.

How much does it generally cost for alterations/tailoring?

it really depends where you take it. when i take dresses to my local dry cleaner (tailor on staff) it generally costs about $35, but the fitted bodice will add substantial cost to the alterations because it makes the taking in at the waist a lot more time intensive. I would estimate upwards of $70-80.

How much does it generally cost to get simple clothing alterations done?

Taking in something costs more than taking up something. When I have to have pants taken in it costs me about 8 bucks.
It costs more because they basicall have to take them apart and put them back together.
I am going to guess it's gonna cost you about 15 bucks.

What is the average cost to have pants altered?

I know somebody close-by who does it because of her home for work. typically i'd say it would run me in regards to 10 dollars. what's more, her work is quality work. just relies on upon on the off chance that you know somebody like that however. else you'll presumably be paying 3 times that only cuz of the name of who's doing it. Anyplace relying upon what's included. I've charged as meager for a straightforward turn up and machine sew fix, and as much with respect to a convoluted re-sleeve of lined jeans. Y can get the changed. From experiance I have preferred fortunes with change places over the laundry will definatly be less expensive than purchasing some jeans.
