How much does it typically cost to start a floor care business?

I work as a floor care guy at a couple different places. I do carpets and hard doors of all kind. People tell me I'm good at it, and I'm starting to even get side work offers from co-workers who've seen my work. How much is the start-up costs of such a business? Is it cheap to maintain once you get the business? Do you need licensing or insurance? I live in the state of Illinois if that helps.

How would one start and successfully run a Home Care Service Business?

You should definitely consider implementing the right tools/systems to monitor your patients. One company that comes to mind that sells this type of equipment is Home8care. They specialize in the senior care market with simple, affordable, and reliable indoor and outdoor protections to enhance seniors’ quality of life and independent living. You can monitor your patients remotely because all their systems can integrate with your smartphone, so you may receive an alert notification in the event of an emergency such as a fall.With their camera add-ons you can monitor and video verify the situation as needed. Home8care service subscriber also receives a bonus Smartphone-based Care24-App for fall, panic alert, and GPS location for outdoor protection services.Just my two cents, best of luck to you!

How much does it cost to start and run a vet clinic?

sweetie, if you can not afford parvo shots you can not afford to open a vet clinic ... you would have to hire a vet which would be at the minimum 80 thousand dollars a year ... you would have to staff the clinic around the clock with a minimum of three vet techs which the ballpark range of their salaries would be 90 thousand dollars ... i worked that out as 15 dollars an hour for 3 people for around the clock care, and 2 weeks off for holidays ... then the machines and supplies easily 100 thousand dollars ... and you would need to buy or rent space ... lets say rent ... minimum 3000 dollars a month x 12 is 36 thousand dollars ...

so
$ 80 000 for the vet
$ 90 000 for the 3 vet techs
$100 000 for machines and supplies
$ 36 000 for rent of said clinic

Total: $306 000 dollars (and this is a very gross estimate, in reality, it would be more like half a million)

that is just to give you an idea why veterinary care is so expensive ... vets start because they love animals but like everyone else must join the real world and be business people too ... which is why free things for animals are not readily available because vets are not "in it for the money" they are trying to run a successful business and that does not happen with giving things away free ... people should be able to afford the most basic veterinary care to own an animal ... no one is "owed" free veterinary care ... and considering you could not afford shots or even to spay your animal, is your and your pets problem not the vets ... usually it is vets who start a clinic, not some random child who plans on getting the money who knows where ... vets have like 10 years of student loans to pay off plus pay for all of the above and more, the student loans alone can be upwards of 300 000 dollars ... so don't be bitter at the vet trying to make a living, you should be asking yourself why you had animals you were unable to provide for ... if your parents did not provide for you, you would be taken away and provided for ... animals do not have that choice ...

i think your warm fuzzy thoughts are sweet and it is always great to dream, but maybe you should dream a little more realistically and you will be a happier person in life ...

Do a lot of home care agencies fail? What mistakes do they make that cause failure that I can avoid while writing a business plan for my own in Pennsylvania? Does anyone have experience in this?

I owned a California home care agency for 13 years. We built it up and sold it successfully, but it was not easy.  Here are some of the biggest threats facing home care agencies, especially in California:The number one threat:  The California state and Federal governments and the political special interest groups that essentially "own" the politicians.  The government is absolutely predatory toward home care companies in particular, and small business employers in general.  The largest cause of this problem is special interests, especially labor unions, the SEIU in particular.  Under this number one threat category I include anti-employer workers comp laws, anti-employer unemployment insurance laws, anti-employer labor laws, minimum wage laws, and more.After that: the plaintiff attorney bar, including labor lawyers and tort litigators.After that: the rapid growth of non-employer home care "companies" that are really just registries and referral agencies.  They dupe the elderly and the families into thinking that they are going to be served by caregivers who are employed by the company, when in fact the clients or their families become the employer, in most cases, with lots of obligations and no recourse against the company.After that: a serious lack of workers willing to work as caregivers, at least workers who are people of good character and experienced.After that: a complete lack of third-party payers for home care, except for long-term care insurance.  While it's true that Medicaid will pay for care for very, very poor clients, in most cases all of that work is only available to union-controlled public agencies.I'm very glad that we helped nearly a thousand elderly clients by providing more than 70,000 caregiver visits to them.  I'm also glad that we have retired from the industry now, too!Now, we build websites and provide online marketing and search engine optimization services for home care agencies, geriatric care management professionals and others who serve the elderly and their families, with our other company at Home Care Marketing | Aging Services Marketing | A Servant's Heart (ElderSell dot com)
