I’m a 22 year-old female moving to a city on my own after graduating college making a little over $50k/year and know absolutely nothing about cars. Should I buy or lease a car?

If I were advising you as I would my daughter or grand-daughter, I'd say that if you MUST have a car then for your first car you should lease a new small car like a Honda Civic or CR-V. It will have a warranty, be super-reliable and you won't have to worry about it. As you get older/more experienced/with life changes (marriage, etc.) then you can consider alternatives. But for a young lady in a new town by herself, lease a small new reliable car such as mentioned above. Be sure to shop around to several dealerships of the same brand and DO NOT make any commitment to any of them until you have talked to all of them. Look at the brand website (like honda.com as they will have Honda Finance Lease deals listed there). There will be BIG PRESSURE to make a decision and take a car....but you tell them your Dad will kill you if you do...and NO, they cannot call him as he is at the lake fishing. Is $30,000 in bank account a lot for a 21 year old?

Over 30 years ago, my first year out of high school, I pocketed over $40,000 and I thought I would be set in life as a general contractor. I owned 2 cars, put new engines and transmissions in them both, would have steak barbecues for family and friends and spent on anything I needed or wanted. That was until I had a back injury when I turned 19 and couldn't do construction any longer. By the time I was 23 I was married with a child, taking 21 credit hours in college while working full time making 5 cents above minimum wage. That part I didn't plan for. Do what you will with your $30k but there are 2 other times in my life where I went a year or longer without income but because I had food storage and saved enough money to pay 1 year's worth of expenses both times, I have never went without or lost anything due to a lack of income.

Netflix? Sometimes my boyfriend and I like to start a new TV series together on Netflix and then only watch it with each other. It gives us something to do together because we don’t allow ourselves to get ahead on the show while we are apart from each other—we are ALWAYS caught up with each other this way. Orange and the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil are some shows that we have watched only when together. For a couple, I’d suggest the latter two.Baking. Make some bread. You can also make homemade Nutella if you can get your hands on some hazelnuts. You can also try messing around with Ramen, adding vegetables and eggs and seasonings and such until you find a nice recipe for yourselves. Cookies are always fun too. If you have pets, you can try making some pet treats.My boyfriend and I like to go to Chile’s sometimes and play games on the tablet that they have, though we really regret spending so much money on food during high school and are trying to not eat out much any more. Anyways, go out to eat or, better yet, make a bunch of food and then go on a picnic.Play a board game. Try the game of life—it’s so much fun to laugh at your S.O. for accidentally having quadruplets.Try some co-op games. My boyfriend is obsessed with CKII, though this game has a crazy learning curve. I would suggest Command and Conquer III: Tiberium Wars. You two can build bases and then destroy the other’s base on LAN, though I should probably mention that it is unlikely to work on anything after Windows 7 and I believe that the LAN feature was removed some years ago. You can also play Agar.io together, it is online and should work on both of your computers. You don’t even have to be at each other’s house.Visit thrift stores. My boyfriend likes history and that’s where I got him his Christmas present this year, though the shopkeeper who knows that it is for a Christmas present hinted to my boyfriend that I purchased the hat for him and completely ruined my surprise.
