How Much Do You Actually Get Out Of Your Pay Check In The Marines And Will They Pay For A Masters

What is the salary of a marine engineer?

Let me simplify this for you.Engine cadet- 400$ to 750$Fresh 4th engineer/5th engineer- 800$ to 1700$4th engineer with experience- 2400$ to 4400$3rd engineer- 3500$ to 4900$2nd engineer- 6000$ to 11000$Chief engineer- 7500$ to 14000$Now, there might be a few questions which might arise in your mind after you finish going through the salary pattern of Marine engineers at various ranks. The salary of a Marine engineer is alloted(in most of the cases) only when he is serving on-board and not when he is on vacations. The wages paid to a Marine engineer on tankers and gas carriers are higher than those serving on dry fleet such as containers and bulk carriers.Pls note that I have mentioned the salary pattern keeping in mind the current market scenario. At times, it varies but yes, it has not changed much in the last 10 years. Again, it totally depends on the demand vs. supply curve.I would like to add one more thing here to the answer though it's not relevant. If you are only willing to be a Marine engineer just because of a handsome salary, try giving it a second thought. It takes a lot from you before you start taking shower in dollars.Wait. Did I tell you that you will be completely exempted from paying taxes? Yes, you will be enjoying the facilities of an NRI when you spend 6 months outside India and you can afford to plan a Euro trip as well at an early age and that too with your hard earned cash.Feel free to ask me if you have some other query regarding this. Thanks for reading. Cheers.

Marine for 4 years?

The truth is, while you're in the corps, you get Tuition assitance, and everything's paid for. You can even get an early release form signed to get out of work to go to class (though of all marine bases, there are only community colleges in travel distance) I would suggest online courses, that way, you can continue your studies while deployed. the deployment schedule right now is 6 home, six there. when you get out, you'll have the GI bill.
As for involuntary extensions, it's possible, but unlikely. If you're something special, or so good the corps is desperate, they'll do whatever to get you to re-enlist. I know a gunny that they wanted so bad, he said he'd only re-enlist if he didn't have to shave anymore, and now he's probably the only marine with a full beard.
Of course there are exceptions. I know this one guy who joined in 2001, and they've kept him in 3 years after his EAS because he was on med hold. but it probably won't happen

How much do the Marine dress blues cost when you graduate boot camp?

I believe they issue them now.. But the Blouse is about $150. Trousers are 30. A good cover is $50. Then if you get the anodized brass which is recommended, That's another $20 or so.

You're looking at over $250

And no they are not free.. Even if you are issued them, it comes out of your paycheck.

During MCRD boot camp does a recruit get paid normally?

Marines do not issue the first pay until after you have finished Recruit training. It will then all be given to you in your account in a lump sum, backdated to the date you started. After that you are paid on the 15th and 1st of each month.

As an E1 with less than 4 months in is around $1270 before deductions. After taxes, medicare, social security, SGLI, AFRH, advance it would be around $450 a payday.

Why army and marines get paid so little consider the risk they take? And where is the opportunity in mili. now?

That's a pretty good question. I always thought when I was a kid that soldiers earn a lot of money. They do their job, and then they come back home to a fortune. It escapes my mind too why aren't soldiers better paid. I don't know much about the army, but I guess, there is a difference between how a soldier gets and a lieutenant, or how much an infantry guy earns, comparing to a pilot.
I would never consider joining the army, when I see all the hardships soldiers have to endure. I'm just don't think I'm cut out for it.
If you have a problem with sharing a room with others consider that you may deal with a lack of even the most primitive conditions. You may have to deal with the lack of water, lack of food, lack of sleep, ungodly temperatures. On top of all that, you have to live with the idea that somebody living across the street from where you sleep you wants you dead, and may try to kill you at anytime.

What is the salary of a US Marine?

Good answer by Mr. Vardhan. I would just like to add a couple of things. The main thing is that you can actually make quite a bit more than this table shows depending on your MOS and what job you actually do. Our servicembers are paid pretty good. Don't think you take a vow of poverty to serve. There are also other benefits such as the GI Bill, VA Home Loans, getting seen at the VA Emergency Rooms for the rest of your life, hiring preference for federal jobs. With the exception of the GI Bill these benefits are free. The base pay for all ranks is the same throughout all the services. So an E-3 in the Marines makes the same as one in the Air Force. Your pay in that grade goes up by how long you have been in…ie E-3 over 2, over 4. It's not a huge difference. What also comes into play are all the special duty or incentive pays….i.e. hazardous duty (jump pay), scuba pay, sea duty, flight pay, family separation pay, hostile fire pay, recruiter and drill pay. I'm probably not using the proper terms but I am trying to include all the branches and just let people know what's out there. There is also separate rations, Basic Allowance for Quarters, Variable Housing Allowance for those who live off post/base. There are also other factors that play into this. I've seen soldiers in the barracks get separate rations because of the shifts they work.Lastly for certain MOSs you can have a sizeable re-enlistment bonus. That's generally paid half up front that prorated annually throughout your enlistment.
