How Much Do You Pay For Your Internet

How much do you pay for cable/internet?

I pay about $85/month for my DirecTV service. I've got the Plus package but I have no premium (movie) channels or sports channels. I currently have two DVRs. I'm considering upgrading to all digital and seeing what I can get from DirecTV as a bonus because I've been a customer for 10 years. I'll play that off against offers from cable, Verizon, and Dish Network. It's been 10 years since I had cable and when we bought this house we went with satellite because we were not satisfied with the cable service in the last house.

Why are we paying for the internet?

We don't pay for the internet as such.It is important to understand the following:The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support email.- WikipediaWhat you pay for when you pay the bill from your internet provider is the service they provide - and that service involves putting some cables in the ground, maintaining those cables, connecting those cables somewhere, paying people to do all of that, paying someone else to answer the phone when you call the hotline etc.So you don't pay for the internet - you pay for someone to connect you to the internet, and doing that costs money. It seems rather unlikely that a service like that would become free, unless we found a way to connect everyone without any costs involved which is highly unlikely if not impossible. Even if governments were to supply 'free' internet, it would in the end be paid by taxpayers.Take a look at this short explanation:The Internet ExplainedWhat you pay for is the basically the part between 0:47 and 1:10, and the reason why you pay for it is that cables, equipment and employees etc. all cost money.
