How much do you think my tattoo will cost me?

Ok, so I am planning on getting this gorgeous tat which will extend from right below my knee to my ankle on my outer calf. It has many many different colors and is filled with butterflies and fairies. I know It will be expensive, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a broad idea of how much it will cost and how long a very colorful and large tattoo typically takes so I'm not completely shocked when I walk in to the tattoo shop.

I plan on getting this tattoo on the side of my thigh probable about 8 x 5 in. I am going to do a bit of editing on it to make it more personal but it should be the same amount of detail and what not.

i posted this before but left out the link.... haha :) anyway... i know there is no way to know for sure until i ask a tattoo artist, but i am hoping for an approximation. i am thinking about the tattoo in the link below (with minor changes such as a better wolf and a little change in the feathers). it would be about... 8'' by 4'' or so, and yes i want the realistic look. thanks! :)

It really depends on the artist. Obviously the more detail the higher the price. Also the more detail you want means the tattoo will be larger and of course in turn will be more costly. Shading adds detail and takes longer to perform and yes adds cost. If I were to guess and this is just a moderate guess, because I do not know the market up there. I would say between $300 to $500. Spend some time with your artist and make sure it is a time when they are not jammed with business (like a Friday or Saturday night. Good Luck...Post Pic when your done, be proud of your ink.

Tattoo artists charge based on different criteria parlor to parlor. Some charge based on time spent tattooing, some based on the difficulty of the design, some on colour, size, and so on. Many have a shop minimum as well. It's going to vary between every artist you speak to.
Best thing you can do is take a copy of the concept to the artist you plan on doing the tattoo and asking him or her for an estimate.
Also keep in mind- "Good tattoos are not cheap, and cheap tattoos are not good"

How much does a 6 in. x 4in tattoo cost?

It really depends. How detailed is it? Do you have it drawn up already or are you going to ask your artist to design it? Is it going to be colored in, if so, how many colors? I mean could go anywhere from a 150-300 for a simple outlined piece (that's a pretty big tat) to 500+ for a detailed, colored piece with fills and shading. It also depends on the quality of the tattoo shop you go to. A lot of places in my area charge about $150 for the hour (though usually they don't watch the clock and charge you for the work they did), so it just really depends.

That’s a beautiful but large tattoo. It will take several sessions. Typically an average price for tattoo artists is around $100.00 and up an hour, especially for detailed work like this.BTW, most tattoo artists won’t copy another artists work but will, instead, interpret the other artists work in their own way.Logistically this work could take 5–6 hours. Or more.Select your tattoo artist and take the photo to your consultation. Some artists will quote a flat rate, others will charge hourly.There’s no way to fine you a definitive answer because we aren’t the artist you’re going to.
