How Much Does A Decent Paint Job On A Car Cost

How much does it cost to Paint a Car?

That's like asking "How much does a car cost?"

The better the preparation, the better the final result. Costs range all over the place, depending on the paint used and who paints it; as well as the degree of preparation (including disassembly) you do.

There is a place in Winter Haven FL, (Econo Car) that says, "Paint any car, $150." Across the street (at Arrington's), it'll cost you maybe $6000 for the same car. Depends on a lot of things. Really.

How much does a paint job for a car cost?

#1- you get what you pay for. the $200 paint jobs advertised are designed to make your car look decent enough to sell (but sell it quick, it wont last long!)
paint jobs can range from probably $100 from the back yard painter to 10's of thousands like the cars you see at shows and in magazines.
for the regular daily driver car, to update its look, a $1000 paint job would be good.

How much would a decent paint job cost?

It will depend on what prep work is required. Like any body work, the condition of the paint that's on it and whether it will have to be stripped, all the trim removed, door handles etc...

Then there is how much of a quality you want from there. The shop I'm at will do all of the body work and priming with the car together (minus trim) and then prep it for paint and disassemble all of the body panels to paint it. This ensures coverage on all surfaces. Then we reassemble the car. The cheapest one so far has been around 15,000. But these have been full restorations with the body set up on a rotisserie.

What does it cost for a custom paint job on a car?

Depends upon your definition of custom. At least $10,000 to start; it goes up from there and can easily exceed $100,000.The more impressive a custom paint job looks the more expensive it is.I am painting a car right now and I am not paying myself labor and I easily have $7000.00 in materials. Sand paper, filler, primers. Paint can be $200.00 per gallon for a single solid color; yellow. Clearcoat can be $300.00 per gallon. Two gallons each for my car plus primer and sealer. Metallics and pearls can double that. 5000 grit sandpaper is $5.00 a disc.Every square centimeter of the car is sanded in at least ten stages. It is extremely labor and supply intensive. I estimate I have spent 200 hours rubbing the body of my car.

How much do car paint jobs cost?

I've done one complete re-paint myself, and paid professionals to do another five. The cost is all over the board. The last time I did this was in 2002. I had a minty-mint, pristene 36,000 original miles '63 VW Beetle of which I was the third owner. I acquired it in a multi-car deal from a collector friend in Dallas, and he'd only had it very briefly himself. Alas, on a trip to the beach, the hood latch failed and the hood flew up, smashing the windshield, the hood, and severely creasing the cowling between the windshield and the hood opening. This couldn't be fixed without a complete repaint, so I decided to have a nearly concours quality job done; since I was going to lose the patina and the "all original" moniker, I wanted the end result to be as near to that as possible. The shop I used had previously done a multi-year 99-point concours restoration on a '63 Porsche convertible. They knew their stuff, and only do premium work. No corners cut, no sub-par materials. In the final breakdown, just the paint materials cost nearly $2000. The bodywork, repairing the cowling - which was flawless - was only $600.There was another $5000 in the rest of the job. That included partial disassembly of the car - loosen fenders, remove bumpers and exterior trim, remove windshield and rear window. Then the cycle started on getting the car "ready for color" - sand, shoot primer coat, shoot guide coat, block sand to find low spots, fill, repeat - until the car was 100% smooth and flat. Then final cleaning, anti-static to keep it from attracting dust, and shoot color. Which then had to be wet-sanded, and re-shot a second time, and wet-sanded again before final buffing.A this was a restoration-quality job, we shot with a single-stage enamel from Sikkens that was a perfect match for the original paint. There was also another $1000 or so for misc parts - replacing chrome that wasn't "good enough", new window and door seals, repair to the canvas sunroof, etc.It really looked like a brand new '63 Beetle. No clue what the "paint the car" part of the restoration on the '63 Porsche cost me, but I do recall that the paint materials alone were over $3k. It was a bare-metal restoration, fully disassembled, all prior paint removed by dipping, rust removed by reverse electrolysis, new metal welded in, etc. In the disassembly, we found one 2" by 3" patch of original paint under the dash, and used it to color-match against in a custom color run, which may have added to the cost.

How much do car paint jobs cost?

You can get an Earl Scheib or Maaco job for around $700 but when you open the hood, doors or trunk you'll still see the old paint and after a year or two it will be in need of a paint job again. Plus it won't look real good much closer than 10 to 20 feet from the car. For a paint job that will last, cover all the surfaces and look good you're looking at $3,000 and up.

How much does a decent paint job for a Ford Excursion cost?

I'm looking at getting a diesel Ford Excursion soon. I'm looking at getting a paint job, but don't know what is reasonable. My thinking is a two tone candy blue and candy black color scheme. If candy colors are more expensive (not so sure what the difference is in price), then what would normal colors generally end up costing for this size of vehicle.
