How Much Does A Pharm Tech At Cvs Makes Hourly In California

CVS Pharmacy Tech pay?

It really depends on if your certified and what state you're working in. I had a friend who started out making $9.00/hr at CVS before she was certified. CVS paid for her to take a few classes and helped her pass the PTCB (pharmacy technician certification board). And they pushed her up to 10.25. She has now been working there for 4 yrs and makes $11.75.

I worked at Walgreen's started at 9.25 got my certification and immediately went up to 11.25. I only stayed there 2 yrs and 11.50 was my ending pay.

I enjoyed working as a pharmacy technician, it's not easy work by far it can be mentally draining more then physically. It's alot to learn at first but when you get the basics down it's a breeze. It helped me through nursing school (and after nursing school b/c it took me a few months to get a job as a nurse).

Pharmacy Technicians don't make that much?

It depends on where you work. Retail pharmacy, like CVS, Safeway, Walgreens, etc., doesn't pay technicians very much.

But, hospitals can pay A LOT.

If you are looking to become a pharmacy technician I would HIGHLY suggest you work in a hospital if you can. I worked as a pharmacy technician (non certified) when I was 17 at Safeway and they paid me $8.00 an hour (retail sucks!). When I turned 18 I took the test and got certified. I now make almost $17.00 an hour working at the hospital I work at. Places will hire you even if you are not certified (they prefer certified techs though). You are considered a pharmacy technician trainee when you are not certified or licensed.

You don't even need to go to school for it! A lot of people assume you have to go to school to be a pharmacy technician but you don't. It's just a waste of time and money.

When I graduated high school I purchased two pharmacy technician books. One was a math book and the other was general pharmacy technician book (pharmacy law, helping the pharmacist, etc.) You can find both of these books online; there are several to chose from. I studied these books over the summer and then I took the soonest test and passed.

Make you you study though because when I took the test 4 years ago it was about $300 and it took like 4 hours! So you definitely want to pass it and not have to take it over again!

Asking Hourly Wage for Pharmacy Technician Job at Walgreens?

I'm interested in a job as a pharmacy technician at a Walgreens located nearby. I wanted to know how much I should ask for an hour since I am uncertified but currently attending a UC. I am interested in being part time. Also is there any suggestions to getting the job? I already applied and will go in tomorrow to take the assessment test. Should I speak with the manager/pharmacy manager? or Say/ask anything in the interview?

How do you pass a saliva drug test in less than 24 hours?

I have not tried this but was told (and it kinda makes sense) that right before you go in for the test, buy some Listerine Breath Strips and place one or two (use your own judgement here) inside your mouth, on the inside of your cheek where you plan to put the test against. If you have never done a saliva test before, just know that they give the test to you and you put it in your cheek and gun area and leave it yourself. This allows you to be in charge of placement and thus allows you to decide ahead of the test, where to put the Listerine Strips. I am worried that for those of you on Methadone (or any other specific drug that they test to make sure it is in your system versus other drugs such as weed or opiates) these Strips may wipe that off the grid (so to speak) as well. This is all theory and I have never tried this myself but have heard about it enough that I feel it merits mentioning as a possible way to pass an oral test.*Once again I will state the following:I am NOT a doctor, nurse, counselor, etc.All advice given is what I call, “Word on the street”.I will say that it may very well work. It also may not. This is your risk. If you want to absolutely pass a test, you know how. Be clean.I am neither responsible nor advocating the use of drugs or alcohol and am only a person trying to help another in a tough spot.Be careful.Good luck.*

Is $15.65/hour for an Assistant Manager at CVS/Pharmacy good?

I wouldn't look at it in terms of wonderful vs. terrible; that could set you up for disappointment. With any job, you have to give it a chance and see whether it's a good fit for you, whether it suits your own criteria- do you like working with the public, do you enjoy being in a leadership position? An important consideration is how well you get along with the people there- if you make a couple friends, that can go a long way towards making a job "worth it"- consider that you're spending the majority of your waking hours with these people!
I personally wouldn't want to work a 48 hour week, but you may find it's a wonderful way to save up some money- just so you have something that you're saving towards. Do I think $16 an hour is "worth it"? Money alone is never worth it. I've been my very happiest when I was dirt poor. The only reason I'm working a steady job is that there were specific things that I wanted that required more of an income.
There is one good thing about working long hours- you don't have any time left to go out and blow it all!

Are pharmacy tech jobs easy to get? Is it worth it?

It's not worth the time and trouble if you will be working retail because the pay sucks. 10.50/hour with very MINIMAL raises. CVS and Walgreens hire pretty easily, but really you will bemaking 11 bucks after 5 years there.

Now if you can get yourself hired at a hospital or long-term care setting, it would be very worth it. I don't know how the job market is there for those types of settings though. It's competetive for those settings as they will start you out at 15-20/hour.

How do you become a CVS certified Pharm Tech?

If the computer modules are from a website known as CVS Learnet then you are on the right path. They are classes that you are required to take to work in the CVS pharmacy. The modules will show you basically how to run CVS's computer system since every pharmacy branch has their own computer system. I believe what the store manager was saying was "CVS certified" means passing all the required modules from CVS Learnet. As far as getting a raise from this, I guess that is at the discretion of your particular store. I do not remember getting a raise from completing the modules.

Will pharmacy techs ever make more money?

With increase experience and upgrade to skill relating to the health profession, pharmacy technicians will have increase pay. Some technicians create new sectors in hospital governing over medications. Some technicians sharpen their skills in insurance and work for insurance company. Each different opportunity increase that technician’s payroll. Just to begin, pharmacy technician earn $14 an hour which increase to $15 with certification, depending on years of experiences and which skill is refined, wage increases to $18–$25 after 2 years and even more depending on the facility pharmacy technician works at.

Which Is Better? Pharmacist or Pharmacy Tech?

I don't know how certification works in the States, but up here pharmacy techs (PTs) are just becoming regulated, so you HAVE to have done a training program, which is at least 4 semesters.

The rest of the info I'll provide is just for the States:

you will need to do 4-6 years of school to get your PharmD--there is no such thing as a B.Sc. in the US anymore--depending on whether you've done any university before...you need 2 years of "pre-pharmacy" before your mandatory 4 years of pharm school, and those 2 years can be done anywhere, but you must have completed certain prerequisites. You have to write the PCAT, which is the pharmacy equivalent of the MCAT. PTs do their program and then are in.

PTs are basically what everyone's former image of the pharmacist was: pill-counting store clerks. There's more to it, of course, but that's the best way to sum it up in a line. Pharmacists are front-of-the-line health care professionals and the ultimate drug experts. Being a pharmacist is a lot more about counselling and patient interaction than giving out drugs.

Another thing to consider: a PT can never be the boss. If you're looking to advance in your career, there's not really anywhere you can go with it. As a pharmacist, you can go far, but you have to be held accountable. Errors are NEVER the PT's fault. It's all on you.

Given that you're already a mother and saying it will be difficult, I'm guessing you won't be able to do pharmacy school at all. Yes it's a lot more money, but there's a reason--so much more work and responsibility! If you are willing to dedicate the time, though, I do have a classmate who is in her 40s and was a full-time mom before now. She now pays for a nanny, since school is ridiculously time consuming, but she's doing very well, and many recruiters seem interested because of her previous work experience and her obvious dedication--so it can definitely work!
