Cavity filling, is white filling as good as silver?

The white fillings don't seal the tooth as well as a metal one will. The metal ones really do outlast the white ones. I have both types in my mouth. If it is visible, I go for the white. But when I can, I use the metal.

Also I work in the dental field. I see metal fillings that are 30-40 years old and are doing well. We just don't see the resin fillings holding up that long.

White or Silver Cavities?

I went to the dentist a few weeks ago and they told me I have seven cavities from drinking pop. The last dentist I went to didn't tell me I had any cavities so this was news to me as I thought my teeth were fine. So now I have three appointments in August to get my teeth fixed. What are the pros/cons of the silver and white cavities. I don't want the silver kind as they are so obviously there and the white are more natural. But I don't know if my dentist will listen. So what does everyone think? NO rude comments. Thanks in advance. :D
