How Much Extra Fees Will Be Added At Canada Border On A Usps Order

How long does USPS take to deliver to Montreal Canada ?

Your parcel is currently in Los Angeles at their sorting facility. How it gets to Montreal from Los Angeles is the question.

I would think that it would be loaded on a cargo plane at LAX and bound for eastern USA, perhaps New York or Boston. Then it would go to a sorting facility there, and get on a truck headed to Montreal. It would arrive at some depot at the border where it will have to wait to clear customs, as Canada Border Services Agency inspects it and makes sure it's allowed into the country, and whether there are any fees to be charged (duty, GST, etc). It then gets handed off to Canada Post, because they are responsible for home delivery of any parcels and letters within Canada. If the CBSA ordered the collection of duty or taxes on the parcel, then Canada Post will arrive at your door with the package and a COD order. They will ask you to pay the duty and a Canada Post handling fee. Expect 2-3 weeks depending on how long it gets stuck at the border being approved.

But if they do not ship it via plane, that means a long drive across country through different sorting depots either in USA or Canada. It took nearly 3 days from being accepted at the downtown LA sort facility to finally make it to the sort facility closer to LAX. So imagine the parcel having to be driven by various trucks or loaded on train cars from there to someplace in Houston, then up to Chicago, then over to Detroit, then up to Toronto, and finally across to Montreal. Ground delivery could take 4-6 weeks, and often does.

If you want to know what to expect for this delivery, then the only person who can answer that question is USPS. And USPS will usually only give that info to the person who sent the shipment, even if you have the tracking number. But you can certainly try calling or emailing them. What I would ask is "If I use USPS to send a parcel by regular delivery from Los Angeles to Montreal, does it go by plane, train, or truck? And what is the typical route that it would take to arrive there?" They may or may not be allowed to give you "general" information like that.

I ordered something from the US and I live in Canada. I used the cheapest USPS option. How long will it take? More info included below.?

The only problem with US Postal Service's cheapest option is that they do not have their own private customs brokers that process the parcels and get them across the border quickly. So your parcel will be delivered to some depot at the border or may even make it to the main Canada Post depot in Mississauga. But at that point it is likely to sit for a while.

Why? Because at that point Canada's customs department (CBSA) takes over, and they have a warehouse full of packages that they have to inspect and allow through the border. So it takes time. Often it may be 10 business days or more. The next status updates I expect you will see is "Shipment has arrived at Delivery Agent." and "Shipment out for further processing".

If you used UPS, Purolator, DHL, or Fedex, those private couriers each have their own authorized private customs brokers who get the packages across the border with little or no delays. That's why they tend to charge more.

If your parcel was shipped with one of these labels on the outside, it may make it through customs quickly. If not, it waits for inspection.

How many forever stamps needed to send card to canada?

First-Class Mail® International Letter rate (to anywhere) is $1.15 US. The value of contents can not exceed $400.00, and with a max. length 11-1/2", height 6-1/8" or thickness 1/4" Since the current Forever domestic (USA) letter rate stamps are worth 49 cents US each. you would need either 3 of those or 2 of those and the remaining 23 cents in postage. How long will it take to ship postages to Canada by USPS' 1st class package international?

In the US delivery of 1st Class is 2 to 3 business days. 1st Class Delivery from the US to Canada is 3 to 7 days. Both are large countries, covering multiple time zones (USA 3rd largest, massive Canada is the 2nd largest country). So if you are shipping from Vermont to Montreal all (close to each other) 2 or 3 days. If you are shipping from Hawaii to the remote Northwest Passage…a week or more. Most folks have no idea how large and incredibly beautiful Canada is. Avid fishermen and hunters do. There are many lakes in Canada that are only accessible my pontoon planes. They fly you in, drop you off, and you stay for days or weeks. The world class fishing is absolutely amazing, and is the experience of a lifetime. I love fly fishing on the old fashioned West Bend light bamboo fly rod by dad gave me. Where in the US even on some of the most famous trout streams you might be lucky to get several strikes an hour, and 3 or 4 large trout in a days fishing, in Canada on remote lakes, you will get dozens of strikes an hour, and catch and release fish you would have been ecstatic to catch in the US. Catching your limit in Canada each day was a given.A sub note: the mosquitoes, black flies and noseeums are also world class. I would strongly advise no exposed skin, and vast quantities of ‘Deep Woods Off Sportsmen’. And when you pee or poop…oh my goodness you have no idea how much a mosquito bite on your penis can hurt!!@@# and swell…like having an extra testical.

Can I mail money from the US to Canada?

Yes - done it. Bills, not coins, in envelopes (they can be felt). Large numbers of bills can be sent in a parcel but remember the financial reporting requirements.Canadian mail is very reliable - but not perfect! (Stories of a letter from WW II turning up). Only send what you can afford to lose and you probably won’t lose any. You can safely think of Canadian mail being equivalent to US mail. But why not send a check? Canadian banks are excellent at dealing with checks written on US banks and in US funds - my wife got paid in US funds (check at beginning) and her pension is in US funds (electronic transfer) and we have never had any problems.

Can i ship a sword to canada?

The problem is when the sword crosses the Canada / USA border. Surprisingly the problem is NOT from Canada Customs. Unlike Canadian knife laws, all swords regardless of length or sharpness are LEGAL in Canada. Problems with shipping a sword across the border are as follows:

1. High cost of international couriers. Within the U.S. ,courier costs are very low. However shipping to Canada that figure can easily go to 3 to 10 times the normal U.S. rate. Some courier companies will flatly refuse to transport a sword across international borders. Not to mention additional brokerage admin fees charged by some couriers on top of normal brokerage costs.

2. Its a fact of life that the courier company which delivers your sword in Canada will likely refuse to ship it back to the US if you need to do a return. Shipping into Canada is considered normal but shipping into the U.S. a sword is considered "dangerous goods". Therefore, couriers will ship swords into Canada but NOT back into the U.S. This makes returns rather difficult.

3. There´s a risk of being sent a factory second sword (a flawed sword) when you pay for a sword without flaws. Factory seconds are less than half the price of normal swords. This is especially difficult to deal with when return shipping is so difficult.

4. Some Canadians have reported that some companies outside of Canada, have even ground down a sword edge in order to guarantee no problems at the Canadian border. As they wrongly believe a sharpened sword will be seized. This in turn makes the sword almost worthless.

hope this helped :)

If I'm relocating from US to Canada, how can I get my USPS, UPS and FedEx mail redirected?

You would need to use a Mail Forwarder ( It will cost your $’s).The USPS only forwards mail within the USPS Mail System, They will not forward to Canada, (For free)UPS/FedEx you should have the packages address to your Canada address, UPS/FedEx will NOT forward outside the country of initial delivery. If they can not deliver it to the US address, They will return it to the sender. If you live near the US/Canada border, Many people get a Private “PO” box at places like the UPS store so there US mail can be sent with in the US, FedEx & UPS can deliver to it, Most private PO boxes send a Email/Text when you have mail to pickup. You then drive back to US and get your “mail”.

How long does it take to get mail to the USA from Canada?

Seconds. One moment the mail is in Canada, the next, it will be in the United States. There is no need to travel over international waters so the change between countries will be almost instantaneous. All you are doing is crossing an imaginary line. Now of course if your mail isn’t already on the border, you would need to post it from somewhere in Canada. Getting it from that point to the border can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days. That depends on whether or not you time your delivery with Canada Post to ensure that the mail doesn’t sit in at the post office overnight or a weekend, etc.Once in the system, most mail is sent to a major sorting hub directly, such as Toronto, Montreal, Calgary or Vancouver, that generally takes a day. Then it is sorted, which can take anywhere from a few hours to days depending on the backlog, type of package, etc. Then it is shipped to the United States.Once it arrives in the United States, it then needs to go through customs, once again this might take hours or days depending, but for letter-mail is almost always hours (unless the scanners detect something unusual). If it is allowed through without any issues it is then sent to the appropriate address, which depending on where in the United States you've mailed it to will take 1 to 5 days.To get estimated times of delivery you could of course just check Canada Post’s delivery standards for Canada to the United States: Delivery Standards(Note, for most mail letter mail it is 2–5 days from and to most places in the United States from major centres in Canada. If you live in remote areas, add a few days to allow your mail to get from where you are to the major centre.)

How many stamps are needed for a general letter from Florida to Ontario, Canada?

FL to Ontario, Canada means it becomes an international delivery…cost is $1.15 in postage. The same applies to me in Central NY…$1.15…even though I am less than three hours from the border to Ontario.

Why would my package going to Canada through USPS take over 2 weeks and no information?

Failure of tracking of parcels going to another country is common. The number on the Customs Declaration is not for tracking. Did it have another Tracking Number? Canada Post will be making the delivery. USPS only gets it on transport to Canada and their job is done. Perhaps it was a delivered and you just don't know.
