How Much For A Tranny Swap On A

If you swap an engine, do you have to swap the transmission?

If you swap an engine, do you have to swap the transmission?I don't know if this has been addressed yet or not but I'll give a point form answer:when swapping an engine to a different engine, space is a concern. From behind the cooling system to the firewall. Between the wheel wells and underneath the hood. Those dimensions MUST BE taken into account first. If it's a 4 cyl to a 4 cyl or V8 to V8, those concerns are usually minimal.Motor mounts MUST be properly placed so that the engine being swapped in sits in the correct place (height, forward/back, etc)When it comes to the transmission, if swapping in a trans that is meant for the particular engine, no worries. If different, an adaptor and proper bell housing will be required. A weak trans behind a powerful engine will be a disaster waiting to happen, so gearing, input and output shafts must be taken into account. Wiring is an issue too since most new transmissions are electronically controlled. If using a newer engine and older one wire trans, wiring harness conversion kits must be used. Transmission mounts must be changed for a swap too.Transmission tunnel space must be accounted for if swapping to a larger transmission that is different than the stock transmission.Length must be accounted for as larger transmissions will be longer and require variations to the driveshft length. This is the tip of the iceberg. Yes, engine swaps can be done but there are MANY different calculations and measurements to take before the work begins. To put it simply, most any passenger vehicle engine and transmission can be swapped in, but the amount of work to do so will vary depending on the size differences (as an example: I run a 4bt diesel in my Wranglers which originally came with a straight 6 in-line 4.0L and I run a TH400 trans in place of the stock NV3550 5-spd). It's LOTS of work but it is possible.

Manual transmission swap for a 2014 mustang?

So I recently purchased my first car, about 3 months ago, I bought a 2014 v6 mustang premium. I wanted the manual tranny but my girlfriend basically forced me into the auto tran. I guess I'm a little whipped you can say lol. Anyways, I regret not getting the manual tran, my girl doesn't even drive my car! The whole reason we got it auto was because she was going to drive it also, but she has her own car. So my question is, how much for a manual transmission swap, including all the labor and parts. I spent 28 grad on this car, and it's only right I make it perfect for me.

Transmission swap on 05 G35 Coupe?

I purchased an 05 coupe a couple months ago, and love it..... but i noticed after a little while of driving it that there was something missing.... So i'm interested in doing a tranny swap from a 5 speed auto, to a 6 speed standard (manual). I found a used 05 coupe 6 sp tranny on eBay, for about $800. So I guess you could say i'm getting the ball rolling, but anyway I was wondering if anyone on here could give me their "2 cents" on how much this whole project would cost, and all the parts I would need to purchase, and how much the install would cost! thanks so much

2001 Mustang Tranny Swap Manual to Auto?HELP!!?

You can swap in an automatic but this would be a little involved due to the amount of electronics needed for this . This is not an undertaking that you want to get involved with if it just has a bad clutch . Your better off buying a different car or just replacing the clutch and give lessons to the family . And the V6 isn't gutless especially with a stick . It's 190hp and 225ftp of torque that is in-line with most of the Camaro Z28's and Monte Carlo SS of the 80's . Don't need 425hp to drive to grocery store . If you want more power buy a V8

How much would an automatic to manual transmission swap cost.?

You would be far better off selling this car and using the money from the sale to buy a car with a manual transmission.

First off, since you even needed to ask this question in the first place tells me that you do not have the mechanical skills to do any of the wok yourself. You will need to pay a professional mechanic to do the work for you. Figure on about $100 per hour labor. Figure on at least 30 hours labor. So start with $3000 for the labor alone.

You will need a transmission. Figure on about $1500 for the transmission.

You will need a flywheel. Figure on about $500 for the flywheel.

You will need a clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Figure on another $1000

You will need the clutch pedal assembly and a new brake pedal assembly, usually sold as a unit. You will also need the hydraulics for the clutch. Junkyard parts will be another $100.

You will need a shifter, linkage, and a new center console. For junkyard parts figure on another $100.

You will also most likely need new drive shafts. Add another $300.

Add this all up and you see that you could easily spend $6500 for the privilege of shifting gears and using a clutch.

You may recover some money by selling your old parts. However these would be worth no more than junkyard parts plus would be a pain in the behind to sell. Figure on getting about 10 cents on the dollar to get rid of them. You might get a couple hundred for them.

This is why I recommend selling the car and getting one that already has a stick.

Your 2004 Lancer OZ Rally is worth about $6500 give or take.

A 2004 Lancer Evolution is worth between $13,000 and $15,000. Your current car with all the money that you just spent for a manual transmission would still be inferior to the Evolution model although you will have spent the same amount of money. Your current car would be worth no more money than it was before you started, maybe worth less.

You would still be better off selling this car.

How much would an automatic to manual transmission swap cost?

It depends on what vehicle and what manual transmission. In general, on a rear wheel drive vehicle, swapping out the auto for a stock style manual isn’t terrible. Stock manual transmission assemblies can run anywhere from $1000 to $2000 on common vehicles. Removal and replace usually takes between 5 and 8 hours. Adding a clutch pedal and mounting a cylinder depends on the vehicle and again, whether it is aftermarket or stock bolt in. The problem is, you can’t always just bolt stock replacements back in. If the parts aren’t modular, then adding a pedal can take some time.Swapping out the flex plate for a flywheel and installing a clutch only adds about 15 minutes to the overall labor time.I doubt that manual and auto trans on any vehicle are exactly the same length, so the driveline probably needs to be cut and re-welded. This part of the job would be outsourced by most shops and may run 100–300 bucks. Measuring everything properly so accurate info can be given to the driveline shop takes time. Pinion angles must be checked with the new driveline and in some cases must be adjusted which sometimes requires different spacers being installed under the rear axle.Measuring and cutting a hole for the shifter and boot takes time. Re-wiring the neutral safety switch takes time as well. So, you have the parts cost of transmission, pedal assembly, reservoir, clutch fluid hose or cable, clutch kit, flywheel, driveline modification, any additional brackets that must be bought or made, shifter boot and neutral safety switch swap. Then you have the standard labor of removing and installing the trans, plus the extra labor of making everything work. The extra labor cost is very hard to pin down without knowing what vehicle and if you are going with nice, aftermarket parts or trying to stick with stock parts.Trying to covert a front wheel drive vehicle to manual has potential to be easier. It would be (possibly) easier and cheaper to just buy a complete motor/trans assembly and swap out the whole thing. Sensors might need to be modified and some holes cut in the firewall, but anything can be done. So, I dont know. On old trucks you might be able to do it for 2500 if you buy all new components. On newer vehicles it gets more and more expensive the newer you get as more and more components must be modified or swapped.

How much would it cost to swap out the transmission auto to manual from my 1991 acura legend?

I have a 1991 Acura Legend L 2 door coupe i bought it from a used car dealership with 115,000 miles right now it has 127,000 never gave me any problems still runs strong, i use nothing but the best for this car 91 octane, mobil 1 extended performance synthetic oil every 6000 miles, anyways the only part that i really don't like is its automatic transmission!!!!!! I hate automatic i hate it with a passion i feel like a somebody took my man card away cause i drive an automatic. Every car or truck i had was stick shift and i broke the tradition, but i love the car and like i said i like everything about it except the automatic. Anyways my question to you is how much would it cost me to order the factory Acura Legend type II(2) 6 speed gear box only found in special edition legends like the gs coupe not the standard L, how much it will cost to swap it out and can it be done? I am pretty sure it can be done? And if you know any aftermarket 6 speed gearbox that will fit my car let me know as long as its good quality? So let me know what the total cost and labor would be if i take it to a qualified mechanic to swap it out? P.s. i don't want to here the answer oh its not worth just get another car thats stick shift no, no no i chose to keep this for a reason but i want to turn it in to stick shift and have fun. Thank You.

How difficult is it to DIY a motor and transmission swap in a 2002 Toyota Sequoia?

This is a how high is up question.I don’t know your level of technical expertise or what tools you own or what kind of work area you have.If you have no tools, no garage or driveway to work at, and don’t know righty tighty-lefty loosey This will be a damn difficult taskIf on the other hand you have some tools, a place to work and a bit of knowledge this is doable. One last word. Removing and replacing and engine and trans is grunt heavy work. Engines and transmissions are heavy and awkward. If you screw up and they slip or fall you could be injured or killed. Be careful!

How much is a Nissan Z transmission swap (automatic to stick)?

Like someone else suggested; just buy one with the manual in it.Sure, if you really like root canal, then you could probably swap for a manual tranny.Best chance of it all coming out right and working and passing a smog test would be to score the entire engine and tranny …along with all the computers …from a wrecked same year Z. Remove your engine and tranny and put the wrecking yard find back in it’s place. And while you’re at the U-Pull-It yard score the clutch components ….the pedal, hanger bracket, slave and master cylinders for the hydraulic actuation and any other odd switches and relays that might be part of some safety feature requiring you to push in the clutch before the engine will start. And then have the lift and garage space and engine hoist and tools and manuals to do the job.Like I said, just get a Z with a stick.

How do I do an engine swap from a manual transmission vehicle for my automatic car? Is it really costly

The way this question is worded it appears to be about an engine swap, NOT a trans swap. Assuming this is correct, and assuming your car still has the original engine, and assuming the engine you are replacing it with is the same engine ( which trans shouldn’t matter, but there could have been more than one engine available and they may not interchange), the swap shouldn’t be any more complicated or any more expensive than replacing the engine with one that was originally bolted to an automatic. Any parts that may be different are already bolted to your original engine. How complicated it is depends on the car. I’ve swapped engines in an afternoon on an old car but most of the newer ones I wouldn’t even think about touching. Start by buying a repair manual for your car and study it carefully. It should cover engine replacement. Does this look like something you can handle? Do you have the proper tools, or know where you can borrow them? Do you really want to invest in the proper tools?
