How Much Fruit Is Too Much Fruit

How much fruit is too much?

That is fine. I would allow two cups of fruit. That would be the size of an apple or banana and about 5 dates.

How much fruit per day is too much fruit?

One key limit is calories.  Fruit in particular is high in calories.  It also contains a number of crucial vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other unknown micronutrients, but you're likely to get as much of those as you require in 2 or 3 servings of (different) fruit.  Any more than that, and you're simply consuming a lot of calories without improving your health. In particular, many fruits are high in sugars.  Sugars should be limited, not just by the amount of calories you require, but by the fact that your body isn't great at handling huge inrushes of sugars.Culinary vegetables are generally lower in sugar, though you need to watch out there, too: many culinary vegetables contain a fair amount of sugar.  Some botanical fruits are treated as culinary vegetables, and may or may not contain a lot of sugar.Generally, it's hard to overdo on vegetables, as long as you're getting a diversity of them.  If you're loading up on the vegetables that are high in starch and sugar, it's easy to overload your calorie budget without getting the necessary proteins.A balanced diet is easiest to achieve by eating a wide variety of foods.  I can't put exact limits on anything without knowing what fruits you're talking about.  Some vegetables (especially green leafy ones) can be eaten essentially without restrictions.  Sugary fruits should probably top out at 4 to 5 per day, and even then only in the context of diet that contains no other sugars.

Is eating too much fruit bad for you?

I eat pretty healthy (veggies, chicken, fish...) and I eat lots of fruit. I LOVE fruit and I eat like 8-10 servings a day. Mostly grapes and oranges. I have heard that you can gain weight from eating too much fruit becuz fruit has lots of sugar... is this true? Is there any other way eating too much fruit can be harmful to your health? Sometimes I eat more fruit than anything else in the day.

Is it possible to eat too much fruit?

I've been having stomach aches in the evenings for the past couple of weeks. My mom thinks it's because I eat too much fruit. I have been eating more fruit lately to stop myself from munching on chips and cookies, but I don't think that an apple, orange, and grapes and maybe a kiwi everyday would make me sick. If it lasts another week I'm going to the doctor (I'm also a diabetic), but whatever is wrong with me I was wondering, is it possible to eat too much fruit?

Can eating too much fruits make you fat?

Probably not.

Obviously, if you're eating nothing but fruit you'll probably make yourself sick.

But having everything in moderation is probably the safest way to go.

What happens when you eat too much fruit?

It depends on what type you ate. You could gain weight (avocados and bananas come to mind), you could become constipated (apples and other fibrous fruit!) or you could have a period of Vitamin C overdose (oranges, citrus,) and have the opposite problem of constipation.

Can eating too much fruit make you too regular?

All fruits contain Fructose, and certain sugars like Sorbitol, Fructose, and Lactose can cause diarrhea, which is one of the reasons eating large amounts of fruit can loosen stool. Fiber also plays a role. Fiber can draw in water to the intestines or help absorb water depending on the type of fiber. It also stimulates peristalsis by adding bulk, which in turn distends intestinal walls and activates peristaltic activity.  There are two main categories: Soluble and Insoluble. Soluble fiber dissolves in water. It changes as it goes through the digestive tract, where it is fermented by bacteria. As it absorbs water it becomes gelatinous. It can actually absorb excess fluid in the bowel and thus act to firm up a loose stool. Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water. As it goes through the digestive tract it does not change its form. This type pulls water into the colon through a process called osmosis, making the stool softer. However, too much water in the bowel will cause diarrhea. Many fruits and vegetables provide significant amounts of fiber but with various ratios of soluble and insoluble types. As an example, both apples and prunes are fruits known to cause diarrhea if eaten in excess. Not surprisingly, both also contain much more insoluble fiber than soluble.
