How Much Is A Pe Gym Teachers Year Salary

How much is a PE (Gym) Teachers year salary?

I'm in High School and a public school gym teacher seems like a cool job. I love kids and sports so I guess being a PE teacher would be a good job for me. How much does a Gym Teacher make a year? Would you say that it's a good job?

Why do people want to be gym teachers?

As far as I can remember gym teachers never impacted the concepts of exercise or fitness or became role models for me. Role models for me in terms of fitness were usually people like the trainer at the gym or my sports coach.

The gym teacher usually follows some rigid structured program and very seldom does he even have the opportunity to talk about exercise and stuff, and usually people don't care about taking care of their bodies until they start to deteriorate around age 25 anyways.

They also have to teach health which is a very scripted set of outdated lessons about how drugs and teenage sex are wrong.

On top of that, it's exhausting. I taught gym today as a sub and it was 10 times harder than any other kind of teaching

Do gym and art teachers get paid the same amount as regular teachers?

Lots of misinformed answerers here.

yes for the most part they get the same pay rate.

In fact, some gym teacher will earn more - as they can pick up coaching slots..

You are thinking about it incorrectly. In education - we have different types of assessments. those big standardized tests arent the "end all" of what we do. Your state has determined that physical education and the arts are an essential component to an educated student. What you have done is noticed a difference in teaching styles.... thats it.

in academic classes - you are used to *summative* assessments - those are the big tests to see what you know - end of unit tests, end of chapter.. the ones that your math, history and science teachers always seem to love to give. We do this because of many and various reasons - but it is designed to see if you have mastered a set of standards.

When some teachers want to see your progression of skills - they might implement a *formative* assessment. This is simply designed to help the teacher decide how to teach needed next step skills. Many writing assignments are considered formative - think of the first draft of a paper... its not designed to be used for the final grade - its used to help you with the second and third draft. Physical ed teachers cannot say - play a perfect basketball game and Ill grade you on it. They have to observe and make small changes to help you get better - much like your english teacher and that first draft.

So rethink your observations and really look at what they are doing - they deserve every penny for what they do - I teach math and science - and I look to *them* to help me get better at what I do. We all need that coaching idea in our classrooms.

Why are PE teachers such power hungry people? ?

I've noticed that they are much more power hungry than any other teacher, what is the deal with that? I've come to hate PE due to all PE teachers being assholes.

Does a PE Teacher make good money??

They make the same as any other teacher does. You have to consider the fact that there are far less PE jobs than other teaching jobs. Also, the requirements for PE in school districts are being cut. In my state, MI, only one credit of PE is required for HS graduation. I know PE majors who graduated from college years ago and have never been able to find a job. It's about the same for music, art, shop.....go into special ed if you want a job right out of college. Also, for any teaching degree it takes 4-6 years, depending on you. Take full loads of classes every fall and winter semester, go spring and summer too.........it's easy to do in 4 years.
