How Much Is It To Get My Car Painted Cool Blue

Why aren't fighter jets painted blue to hide in the sky?

Actually almost all fighters (including the "plain" grey ones) are camouflaged; it's just not the kind of camouflage you're used to seeing. The problem with using a typical blue "camouflage" paint scheme on a fighter is the constantly changing altitude and viewing angle. If I'm in a fighter at a higher altitude than you and looking down at you, the top of your aircraft should be the color of the ground not the sky.Unfortunately, now if you're at the same altitude as me and you bank toward me you'll stand out like a sore thumb against the sky.If you fly over water you'd be equally easy to see.Even worse, modern fighters fly so high, there's also an issue with the atmosphere making everything look "washed out."Sunlight in the atmosphere acts like a light blue/grey fog. That's why you see blue when you look up during the day. If the atmosphere was clear you'd just see black space or white light from the sun. When you're at a high altitude and you look down all that atmosphere between you and the ground makes the ground look blue/grey.Take a look at the background in this photo. Now, all those ground camouflage paint jobs stick out like a sore thumb; even against the ground. The grey one is actually the hardest to see against the atmosphere! This is just the tip of the iceberg, but depending on where you are and where the enemy fighter is a camouflage paint job that was making it hard to see you can also make you very easy to see! Each nation has designed fighter aircraft paint schemes based on their opinion of what's important, the most common tactical scenario, the specific use of the aircraft, etc.For example, Lockheed originally was planning to paint the F-117 stealth fighter grey like other US fighter aircraft. However, the USAF requested the F-117 be painted black because they planned to use it primarily during night missions to maximize its stealth effect. Most people mistakenly assume the typical grey US fighter paint scheme isn't camouflage, but it actually is!In addition to helping hide against the blue/grey atmosphere, most grey colored fighters use a technique copied from nature called "countershading." This is where the underside of an animal is lighter colored and the top is darker. Here's how it works:Now, take a look at this F-18. You can see how some parts (particularly the underside) are a lighter shade of grey. However, when the F-18 is flying level it just looks flat grey and starts to blend into the washed-out blue/grey atmosphere and ground.

Got my car painted starburst blue... it's been one day, can i drive it without worrying?

---It would all depend on what type of paint. Industrial sprayer, mix yourself, you should be alright... but I doubt it has completely cured. Aerosol paint, rattle-can, it's cured already cause they contain the least hardeners.

---The biggest worry when painting is allowing the primer to cure long enough. That is best left for 48 hours. If it hasn't cured prior to paint, it will "crinkle". If all is good with the primer and you're asking about the topcoat, anything there can be repaired with sanding, but UVs can effect it if there's no clear coat. Humidity plays a major factor in paint curing, as well as heat. If you painted it early in the morning when it was cool, allowed for the day to heat up and then cool down during the evening, it would have cured slowly and been more durable. As long as no rocks, bugs or road tar get on the paint now, you should be alright until it has cured for at least 3 days, then wetsand and clearcoat ASAP if you haven't yet.

---Take your thumbnail to the inner wheel well or somewhere inconspicuous and press it into the paint and see if it has hardened/cured.

~edit~
---By now it should be ready for wet sand and clear coat... if that hasn't been done already. It is undoubtedly cured by now... unless it's polyurethane paint. If that's the case, one more day to completely cure... and it would depend on the manufacturer as to whether or not it is sandable.

How hard is it to paint a car yourself?

i was thinking of painting a 97 jeep wrangler that really cool jeep blue but i don't really want to be spending like 1,200 to 3,000 on having it professionally done considering its a jeep and the paint job doesn't need to be flawless... so im asking anyone who has done this before if it is overly difficult/ knows of a cheep place to get it painted. or has any advice for me at all in this topic i would greatly appreciate it
p.s. I've been airbrushing surfboards since i was 11 so i'm not entirely new to paint... but then again an airbrush isn't an HPLV sprayer.

What does it cost for a custom paint job on a car?

Depends upon your definition of custom. At least $10,000 to start; it goes up from there and can easily exceed $100,000.The more impressive a custom paint job looks the more expensive it is.I am painting a car right now and I am not paying myself labor and I easily have $7000.00 in materials. Sand paper, filler, primers. Paint can be $200.00 per gallon for a single solid color; yellow. Clearcoat can be $300.00 per gallon. Two gallons each for my car plus primer and sealer. Metallics and pearls can double that. 5000 grit sandpaper is $5.00 a disc.Every square centimeter of the car is sanded in at least ten stages. It is extremely labor and supply intensive. I estimate I have spent 200 hours rubbing the body of my car.

How do you make grey paint?

Grey is a super interesting colour, perhaps one of the most subtle and versatile on a painter’s palette. First, a bit of colour theory…Pigmented paint gets its colour due to a subtractive effect. When a full-spectrum light-source, such as the sun, reflects off of the particles in a painted surface (or anything solid for that matter), some of the light is absorbed while some of it is reflected back to our eyes. Green paint, for instance, absorbs every wavelength of the visible spectrum EXCEPT for the wavelengths that we perceive as green.Likewise, white paint reflects all wavelengths and absorbs none, which is why pure white can be bright enough to dazzle the eyes. Black paint, on the other hand, reflects very few wavelengths and absorbs almost all of them, which is why a car with a black interior gets so darn hot in the summer sun.BTW: “Vantablack”, copyrighted by British artist Anish Kapoor, uses nano particles to suck up as much light as possible, making it the blackest of blacks. To produce a beautiful grey, clean and crisp and NOT muddy, you will want to take advantage of the fact that your paint must absorb a certain amount of colour, whilst allowing some wavelengths to return to the eyes. I teach my students to mix complimentary colours together to produce a neutral grey (the centre spot, 1, in the diagram above). This type of grey is almost never completely neutral, but can be warm or cool or any subtle hue in between. Here's how it's done: get out some red & green, or blue & orange, or yellow & violet. Mix the two colours together thoroughly with transparent medium (in equal proportions at first, adjusting the amounts as needed). You should end up with something quite dark, almost black. Now, add some white until you arrive at your desired value. The results will be pleasing and FAR more interesting than merely mixing white with black, a shortcut that usually produces a lifeless and uninspiring grey. Here's a link to the colour exercise (with explanations and a diagram) that I assign my students: Colour

What color does blue and pink make?

It depends on the 'temperature' of the color used. For example,if you are using a very cool blue (you can see the greenish hue to it as opposed to purplish)) and a very warm pink (you can see the orangish hue as opposed to blueish), you will get a very muddy violet. If you are using a very neutral blue like a cerulean or process blue and a nice light fuschia, you would get very nice lavender. It would also depend on how how of each color you are going to be mixing together.

Restoring my car what should I do first the paint or interior?

Do the paint first. Strip the interior before you paint it. You can be reupholstering the seats while it's in the paint shop and install the headliner door panels and seats when they're done. Nothing worse than even a slight bit of overspray on new upholstery.
