As someone who has been repairing computers for the past 20 years, I can tell you that the amount you’ll pay can vary a good deal, based on what the problem is, what type of computer, and who does the repair.When it comes to laptop repair, the national chains, and the manufacturers (if out of warranty) charge the most. Repair technicians working out of their homes charge the least, and small, local, independent shops like mine charge somewhere in the middle.Some charge an hourly rate (many techs working from home use that model), while others, like me, charge a flat labor rate. I charge $99, plus cost of parts if needed. If it’s just virus removal, a tuneup, replacement of a cracked screen or installation of a new hard drive, the labor cost is the same. Another local shop near me (with employees and higher overhead) charges $149 for the same work.Experience is one key factor in avoiding a bad repair job that will have to go back to the shop. Why? Because they didn’t back up the important data! If you’re one of those customers, don’t fret. In about 90 percent of the cases, the data can easily be transferred to a new computer. So go ahead and buy the new computer, and simply have the tech transfer the data for you. And from now on, back up that data!

PC repair huh? Get a good hardware manual. Mark Minasi has a good one but it will cost. You will need a toolkit - needle nose pliers, screwdrivers (flat, phillips and tork). Bottle of heat paste and anti static strap. Get a couple of old pc's to practice on. Learn the acronyms, sodimm, ddr ddr2 ddr3 scsi sata ide usb firewire. Research on os's -- DOS - the basics, Winxp, Unix, OSX. Learn your network protocols tcp/ip ipx netbios. Test systems - learn to recover window - there and several ways. Crash them and fix them. How much to repair laptop charging circuit?
If you are able to run the laptop on just the charger then the problem is the battery. If you are able to start it on just the battery and not the charger, the problem is the charger. If you can't for neither then you have a power jack problem. To me, it seems as if you just need a new battery since you are able to run it off the charger unless I read that incorrectly. You just need to replace what is damaged, not go on a wild goose chase. If you need a new charger, you can find some online on sites like ebay or amazon. Don't know about DELL.But my HP laptop was not working properly back in 2010, so I took it to HP Service center Noida, near sector 62 and they told just to open it and identify the defect they will charge 500 Rs. I was ok with that sum, but the day after they told the motherboard has got some issues and will need to replace it and will cost 12k for new one. I just left the place and took my faulty laptop.Then I went to Nehru Place, Delhi, there are lot of laptop repair centres, one shop looked decent and they asked I'll have to leave for a week and would charge 1.3k. I asked how come that figure, they told any defect its flat price, no matter they will replace 1 IC or 10 ICs. I left it to them and they gave me a memo listed with main parts with their serial numbers. And also got my signature with permanent marker on main components. After a week I visited the shop and they asked me to check the laptop if its working properly or not, and to my surprise it was working perfectly, and till date it didn't had any issues.So, if your laptop is under warranty check with service centre otherwise go to Nehru Place. Don't remember the shop name, but it was on second floor of 1st entry tower, besides "Computer Empire" shop.

so, I haven't been able to use my laptop for 3 years.... basically, I sat it on my lap a lot. it got to the point where it would only charge when i held the wire in strange positions, and then it stopped charging all together. the battery is fine, because it still holds a charge, the charger cord was brand new. I read that the power acceptor inside has become loose, and just needs to be sodered back on. i was just wondering how much that would cost, and if it would be worth it.
