SORRY< this is a SAD situation and I hav been there many times ! THREATEN THEM wi tha SMALL CLIAMS lawsuti since they sold you a USED ELMON without testing it! They GAVE you a WARRANTY and they shoud lhonor it and ABSORB the cost of the LABOR involved here! They should have KNOWN this trans had ISSUES before they sold it to you! You will be billed for the balance. If you still don't pay, it would depend on the rules for the state. In some they can revoke your license for non payment. At the very least you will be turned into collections. Best thing to do always is call the tow company early and tell them you don't want the vehicle. They may allow you to give them the title and drop charges at that point. Even if they don't, it will be much cheaper early than late.

How long does it take to put a transfer case in a truck?
There are hours allowed for the job--spelled out in the service tech book at the dealer. A trained mechanic is allowed just so many hours to do any job in or on a vehicle. If the book says 3 hours--and he does it in 5 hours--they can only charge you for 3 hours. It is the LAW. If you are a trained ASI mechanic with every conceivable tool, you should be able to remove and replace the transfer case without a problem. If there is more work required to the items that attach to the transfer case--those little unforeseen problems--they will add to the time. And you may need to go for parts--that takes time you may have not expected to spend. THIS IS NOT A JOB TO RUSH OR TRY TO GO CHEAP. If it is a USED transfer case--it may be worse than your current one. That is very risky to use junk yard stuff.
