Well, I do not have 7 years of experience. But still I want to answer this question.I started my career in Cognizant as a Programmer Analyst Trainee - the very first post an engineering graduate gets. I was at this post at around 1 year. So technically I have now a year of experience.I moved out of Cognizant after a year to join a product based company. There according to my skills and experience in Cognizant they offered me the same salary you are talking about.So I won’t say that 8.2 LPA is decent salary. In fact I would say, it is very low.If you have 7 YOE, you should at least demand of 15 LPA. But Since you are currently working in Infosys with 6.7, I can say you should at least demand of 10 to 10.5 LPA. Because 15 would be unrealistic. (Trust me, I am not downgrading.)But I think, more important is, why are you moving out of Infosys. If it’s the matter of technology or your interest of work, you should definitely go for the offer with some effort of negotiation. Because If you work upon the technology of your interest, you will eventually have an opportunity to land into a Product company with your field expertise. This will give you a huge hike.So it depends on the technology you are getting to work upon in Cognizant and the Money (Obviously).

The first thing to keep in mind is that when I talk about a junior programmer/developer, I talk about a person who has graduated with a CompSci, BusSci, or IS degree. One can also have similar 3-year qualifications. And my answer is most accurate to medium/large companies in the major cities of South Africa. Entry-level developer job in Cape Town, South AfricaFor you first job (entry-level) you can expect between R10000-R18000 (gross) a month. People who came top of their class or work for large companies (often in the financial services area) can expect the upper edge of that range. Now, some notes on this:There is a trend for many first-time programmers to start as interns. For this expect ~R7000 a month. It can be quite difficult to live off of this and you would definitely need to share a rental apartment with people and take public transport. Cape Town and Johannesburg are the best cities for software developers. If you work in a city like Port Elizabeth you can expect half or less of the figures I've quoted above.
