Disclosure: I’m the founder of OfferZen, a recruitment platform for developers in South Africa.I’ve been in the South African tech industry for the past 10 years and the market has never looked better:South African software developer salaries are the highest in the world if you adjust for purchasing power [1]There are hundreds of companies hiring software developers, and a growing startup community.South Africa has world-class developers. Companies like Amazon have recognized this and set up development centers here. The developer community is very active. There are dozens of meetups, and usually at least one development conference in Cape Town or Johannesburg each month.[1] South African software developer salaries ranked best in the world

What salary is an IT developer/lead with 12+ years of experience in India paid?

Based on my experience in IT industry in India and overseas, the norm is to have at-least 1.5–1.75 times the no. of years of experience as salary in lakhs. If you are working on technologies that are niche or in high demand, ask for 2.25 times the no. of years of experience in lakhs. All the best.P.S : Please note that salary shouldn’t be the only aspect while joining a company. Several things should be looked into i.e., team, benefits (insurance, stock options etc.,), PTO policy etc.,

What's an average salary for a PHP Web developer in South Africa?

All depends where you are and what experience you have.If you live in the Free State like I do you will be lucky to get 10k+ when starting out, other bigger places like Jhb and Pretoria you might start with something higher. If you have more experience there are some good jobs here Find & Apply For Jobs & Vacancies Online, most of the high paying jobs are in the large cities and require experience, these vary from ~20k to ~40k, yet again, all depends on experience and you get lucky, jobs are hard to get these days and vary greatly on where you are situated.

Is 8.2LPA decent salary for 7 years experience in CTS?

Well, I do not have 7 years of experience. But still I want to answer this question.I started my career in Cognizant as a Programmer Analyst Trainee - the very first post an engineering graduate gets. I was at this post at around 1 year. So technically I have now a year of experience.I moved out of Cognizant after a year to join a product based company. There according to my skills and experience in Cognizant they offered me the same salary you are talking about. So I won’t say that 8.2 LPA is decent salary. In fact I would say, it is very low.If you have 7 YOE, you should at least demand of 15 LPA. But Since you are currently working in Infosys with 6.7, I can say you should at least demand of 10 to 10.5 LPA. Because 15 would be unrealistic. (Trust me, I am not downgrading.)But I think, more important is, why are you moving out of Infosys. If it’s the matter of technology or your interest of work, you should definitely go for the offer with some effort of negotiation. Because If you work upon the technology of your interest, you will eventually have an opportunity to land into a Product company with your field expertise. This will give you a huge hike.So it depends on the technology you are getting to work upon in Cognizant and the Money (Obviously).

Which is the best city in South Africa to live and work as a software developer, Cape Town or Johannesburg?

It all depends on your personal situation, but one could look at it from a job demand perspective, which is at least one important factor, I should think.According to adzuna.co.za, a large job aggregator in South Africa, there are, as of 1 June 2018, 9,547 live Developer Jobs in Johannesburg averaging a salary of R506,833, while in Cape Town, there are 4,953 live Developer Jobs with an average salary of R441,569.Using that alone, Johannesburg could be your best bet - but of course there are many other factors at play.

How much is the salary for junior programmer in South Africa?

This question really needs a better answer, so I will have a quick go. The first thing to keep in mind is that when I talk about a junior programmer/developer, I talk about a person who has graduated with a CompSci, BusSci, or IS degree. One can also have similar 3-year qualifications. And my answer is most accurate to medium/large companies in the major cities of South Africa. Entry-level developer job in Cape Town, South AfricaFor you first job (entry-level) you can expect between R10000-R18000 (gross) a month. People who came top of their class or work for large companies (often in the financial services area) can expect the upper edge of that range. Now, some notes on this:There is a trend for many first-time programmers to start as interns. For this expect ~R7000 a month. It can be quite difficult to live off of this and you would definitely need to share a rental apartment with people and take public transport. Cape Town and Johannesburg are the best cities for software developers. If you work in a city like Port Elizabeth you can expect half or less of the figures I've quoted above. Very few companies offer bonuses or profit sharing, but this can make a massive difference to your earnings. Look out for this. Most of the time: larger companies pay more than smaller ones. But smaller companies are normally more fun, or easier to get into. Startups and non-profit organisations will vary widely depending on funding, etc, but the salary would definitely be lower. Use the Payscale website. It is highly accurate. Lastly, as a software developer, your salary can (and almost will) increase exponentially. If you perform above average, expect 10+% increases every 6-12 months for 3 years. Good luck. It's a great time to be a software developer!
