How Much Stress Will Archery Put On My Collarbone

What does it feel like to break a bone?

It hurts and causes and unmistakable sound.I was in my early twenties when I was hanging out with my sister and her boyfriend at my parents. We were playing Nintendo, having a few beers and low key partying when I thought it would be a good idea to have some rough and tumble play with my sisters boyfriend (a 6ft4 and 190 lbs giant of a man), we both intended the fight as simply drunken fun but he lost control of himself, picked me up and threw me to the ground… CRACK!! CRACK!!..As I was thrown down my foot landed awkwardly and got twisted violently upon impacting the ground. I knew not only from the unmistakable sound but also from the constant, unrelenting, sharp and dull throbbing that I had probably broken my ankle. I had never broken a bone before and although I was sure it was likely broken I didn’t want to believe it and tried to convince myself it wasnt. My sister and her boyfriend, both freaking out, tried to convince me it was only a sprain insisted that because I could move my ankle and even put full body weight on it there was no way it was fractured. I continued hanging out but I was unable to get myself back into the partying spirit knowing something just wasn’t right. A look at my ankle again a few hours later revealed a badly swollen ankle still in 7/10 pain. The next day I went and got an xray and was told I had a spiral fracture of the right fubula but that it was stable. I did not require surgery and was put in an air cast, told not to put weight on it. Pain was terrible for the first 2–3 days but after two weeks the pain was only present when bumping or putting weight on my foot. After 4 week I was much better and xray showed I was almost fully healed.Don’t break a bone if you can help it, it sucks. Also no wrestling with people past the age of 18, especially when alcohol is involved lmao.

Why does one of my collar bones protrude more than the other?

If your collar bone or clavicle is protruding more than the other one, the problem is not in the collar bone probably,The triangular bone(scapula) behind your shoulder might be the culprit, this is usually called scapular dyskinesia when your scapula is not in place it disturbs the joints around it like the shoulder and the joints your collar bone makes with the shoulder and the sternum and looks as if its protruded. That is totally normal and can be correcred quite easily you might want to get an appointment with a physical therapist and get it corrected.

Is it better to play violin without a shoulder rest?

It really depends on your body shape. (The shoulder rest doesn't interfere with the sound in anyway at least in amateur and semi-pro levels if that's your question. Using a shoulder rest is like wearing gloves in the gym- it's done to make things comfortable for you. Unlike gym gloves there's no stigma around a shoulder rest so you should really use one if necessary)The thing is, as a person gets broader and slanting shoulders, their way of holding the violin changes. Often you have to shrug your shoulder somewhat in order to grip your violin. This kind of shrugging puts unnecessary strain on your lats and traps and that too in an imbalanced way.To get around this problem shoulder rests are used. With a shoulder rest, you can grip the violin easily without lifting or shrugging your shoulder. But should you use it? That is a question only you can answer. Children and even lightly built women can manage quite well without shoulder rests. A lot of people prefer using a sponge over a shoulder rest as it is more comfortable and they have flatter shoulders. But if you are a broad-shouldered, thick-necked man a shoulder rest could be essential. If you think you are shrugging unnecessarily, try out both the sponge and different variants of shoulder rests (yes. There are different variants) play around with the elevation, tilt etc. until you feel secure. It will certainly take you some time to get comfortable though. Also discuss with your teachers/other musicians to find out the best option for you

Do broken bones heal stronger than before the injury?

Sort of…. During the healing process a callus forms around the fracture site. The callus is ossified (turned into bone). Since the callus is bigger than the original bone, there is usually more bone tissue than originally at the fracture site. On the other hand the orientation of the bone tissue in the healed area is not organized very well. In normal compact bone tissue the osteons all run parallel to each other giving the bone tissue great strength. So - at the healed site there is usually more bone tissue, but the tissue is not as strong. Over time (years) the bone tissue will remodel itself such that the internal organization will be closer the original, and the overall shape of the bone will become more like it was originally.
