How Much Time Is Needed For A Restaurant To Gain Enough Reputation

Is it possible to get a Michelin star for your restaurant, even if you haven't pursued one?

Michelin's process is secretive, but certainly in principle a star can be awarded by Michelin to any restaurant. Indeed there is no way to actively pursue a star e.g. there is no application form or way to ask for an inspection from Michelin. A restaurant builds a reputation and Michelin may decide to inspect it if they get enough positive feedback e.g. from their readers and presumably from other food press that they monitor. Certainly some chefs have said that they were being pleasantly surprised at the receipt of a star, so the answer to your question is "yes".

How to avoid food poisoning in a restaurant?

It is no secret that most restaurants have dirty kitchens. People who work in those kitchens rarely (if ever) wash their hands. Hygiene is a big problem in most restaurants. Is there any way to protect oneself from having health problems associated with eating in restaurants?

Why do carbs have such a bad reputation?

Yeah, exactly you lose MUSCLE. Muscle weight MUCH MORE than fat. Therefore you lose weight but your midsection never shrinks.
I always thought that low carb diet was the DUMBEST thing ever. The guy that invented it dropped dead of a heart attack.
How couldn't people see through this ridiculous garbage? I see things on restaurant menus that state (Low Carb). The meal is a hamburger without the bun. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! Are you kidding me? Like it's the bun that makes you fat and not the fried hamburger loaded with grease, fat and cholesterol.

Carbs will make someone gain weight if they just sit on their bum all day. Carbs are an ESSENTIAL part of an everyda diet, especially if you work out. The body uses carbs and glucose as energy, without them your body uses muscle for energy.

Therefore losing muscle will make you lose weight, but you'll become a weak, soft pile of skin and fat.
Perfect example. I'm 6'0 216 lbs yet my waist is 32 1/2 inches. My friend is 6'2 185lbs and his waist is 37 inches. I'm over 30lbs heavier, shorter and yet my waist is 4 1/2 inches smaller than his.
THANK YOU for your great question.

How does a restaurant stay open for years, without almost any clients?

The restaurant could be run at a loss with a continuous influx of cash from current / new investors. Due to the low barriers to entry into the restaurant business many people without any or good business sense opens restaurants. Many of these owners after sinking their life saving into a restaurant will continue to sink extra money into the restaurant in the hopes that it will “turn around.” If they are not well connected the extra funding will come from friends and family. If they are well connected then they would “change the concept” and seek new investor funding. In either case if the owner minimizes the money burn rate they can be open for an significant amount of time. The above presume that the owner is behaving ethically. If they are not behaving ethically the restaurant can stay open even longer. For example the owner could not pay their suppliers. When they get cut off from one supplier they switch to a different one. It would take some time to develop a bad enough reputation that suppliers would not want to deal with you. The owner could not pay their taxes. Owners of businesses are supposed to withhold federal, state, medicare sales taxes from employees and customers and provide it to the government. If they keep all of the money then it essentially increases their income by 30% or more on the same amount of customers. The government will eventually catch on but it may take years to decades. The restaurant could be a money laundering operation. Due to the disconnected nature between the cost of raw food items to the actual cost that customers pay there is a lot of “wiggle” room on the books of restaurants. The restaurant could be reporting much higher earnings than reality converting “dirty” money into “clean” money. The fact that restaurants tends to be a cash style businesses also helps when laundering money.
