Does dance help you slim down?

I was wondering if dance helps you slim down. I want to lose about 15-20 pounds before i go back to school in September. I enrolled in dance classes(because i wanted to, not for weight loss) and wanted to know if they helped significantly with weight loss, or should i look elsewhere to lose the weight i want? They are 3 times a week, 45-60 minutes per day (jazz, beginning ballet, and modern). will they help?

well I was 15, 5'2'', and weighed 170 lbs and then I started having all sorts of problems and ended up going on a gluten free diet. In a matter of months I went down to 140 lbs. I have actually started making my family dinner and that gives me a lot of control over what I eat. (and the excuse "I don't know how to cook" which is my brother's favorite line, it's not that great of an excuse bc all you need to do is follow a cookbook and if there is a term like mince, saute, etc. go online and look it up, that's what I do) No cookbook? There's tons of recipe's online, Google it :D Cooking will also make your parents feel wonderful that you are being so responsible and YOU will feel greater about yourself for doing it... trust me, I feel so much pride for my meals and love the results when my parents compliment me on cooking and being so responsible.

A gluten free diet is pretty difficult and requires constantly looking at the ingredients of foods that is bought and it also requires some research into what has gluten and what doesn't. There can be hidden gluten in so many things.

oh and if you don't like any of my suggestions, just tell whoever cooks that you are worried about your weight and that you want to eat healthier. They should understand.

Does kinect help lose fat and build muscle!?

Well i hate to brake it to you, but just like all video games, they have no physical benefit at all. You won't build any muscle. You need weights to get bigger muscles. The weights cause micro tears in your muscles, your body repairs them, and that's how muscles get bigger. As for your whole body, it won't help either. Maybe it does have some cadio benefits, but not enough to be considered a workout. But no, your body won't get bigger with Kinect. But it does seem really fun though.

What kind of dance class should I take if I want to improve my overall dancing skills and get a decent amount of exercise?

You might be able to go to an exercise store and get one. Just dance 1 and 2 both were made to be fun to dance to, but while you are having fun your actually doing cardio and yoga moves :D Look for a cardio/yoga DVD and it might be the same :)
