How Much Would An 8th Grade English Teacher With A Masters Degree Make In North Carolina

Can a principal change a teacher's grade if he doesn't agree with it?

In North Carolina, the teacher is the final decider of grades according to the laws governing public schools. In a neighboring county, a high-school principal changed grades of a student athlete in order to help him qualify for a college athletic scholarship. The changes were discovered, and the principal lost his job.The high-powered parent of one of my students complained about my grades to the principal. The principal came to me and ask me if I were willing to change that student’s grade—an athlete who would become academically ineligible to play if I did not. I told the principal that if I agreed to raise the grade of that student by two points, I felt that to be consistent, I would have to raise all my students’ grades by 2 points, which would have meant refiguring all my grades, and resubmitting the semester report for the whole school. He agreed with me. The grade was unchanged.

17 Year old failed 11th grade need opinions on best route for him.?

My 17 year old son failed this year due to abcences and bad grades. He had skipped school without our knowledge. My two options are allow him to go to Christian School with an accelarated program so that he could hopefully make up the year he lost, or make him take the 11th grade over again.

His stepfather feels if I allow him to go to Christian school and make up the grade I am teaching the other kids all I have to do is fail and I can go to private school. He doesn't think my son will do any better in a Private school. And the cost will be a big hit to our budget.

I feel he has learned a lesson and will work hard, that he might drop out if we make him retake the 11th grade and that he should go to work and help pay for the school.

PLEASE give me your honest opinions on what I should do. We have taken his car, computer and games.

Is one F enough to fail 7th grade?

If you are in the US it is increasingly harder to get held back a grade. I have been in several different districts in multiple states. In none of those systems would a student be held back for failing one class, even in a core class like science. I have seen students promoted who fail English, math, history all in the same year. This is one thing that makes high school so difficult for at risk students. They are told by their teachers that if they don’t do their work they will fail, and sure enough they don’t do the work and the student gets an F, but they just move on to the next grade. So at risk students learn that there is no consequence for getting an F. Now this student gets to high school hears the same line about not working will result in a failing grade, and sure enough they fail. The next year they are called a 10th grader, but surprise, surprise they are taking 9th grade English, 9th grade math, 9th grade science and so on. Then out of frustration many of these students drop out somewhere during the 10th grade year.

Do teachers get paid for after school activities?

Whether a teacher is paid for activities outside of the classroom is completely depending upon the contract the teacher has with the district. My district pays teachers for some things but not others. As an example, I am contracted to work an extra 20 “adjunct hours” per year. These adjunct hours can be pretty much anything administrators tell me to do. This year I’m selling tickets at water polo games. Last Thursday, after starting work at 7:10 AM, I was able to finally leave at about 7 PM. I have four more such duties over the next month. I will receive no additional pay for it, since it is a “professional responsibility.” In addition, I will not be paid for Back to School Night, Open House, AP Night, or the several dozen IEP/504/SST meetings. Again, all of these are “professional responsibilities.”I am, however, paid extra if I teach an extra class. I teach five classes now. A sixth class is worth approximately 3/5 of a regular class. You also lose your prep period. If I sub in another class on my prep period, they will pay me $40. I am not on my home turf. I am not dealing with my students. Some of the worst hours of my life have been spent dealing with classrooms in which the students have learned nothing but disrespect. $40 ($24 after taxes) is just not worth it, but I can be compelled to do it. Tutoring after school earns you about the same amount. In general, there aren’t a lot of options for extra cash in this job. There are other duties you can perform like being a class adviser, department chair, coach, etc. These stipends are hardly worth it (some are around $1,600 per year) considering the amount of time and sweat you have to pour into them. For example, being a water polo coach can get you about $3,000 per year. You’ll literally do so much work that you’ll be making less than minimum wage for that extra duty.Still the best job in the world.

How would you describe 10th grade?

So on June 21st I was officially done my freshman year in high school and now I am on my way to being a sophomore(finally). So I just wanna know how exactly is it... I know people have different opinions but I just wanna know is it hard, etc..... Btw the friends thing isnt really an issue because i made friends from all grades in my freshman year and even if I didnt have friends I wouldnt mind. I'm one of those people who love company but can get more done when I'm alone..... But yeah how is sophomore year? I keep hearing its hard.... Also, I go to a really good high school in Philadelphia, PA and sophomore year we have to take the PSATs..... That kinda sucks..... But I thought it might help me get answers to my question if I listed my classes for next year so here they are.....
-Geometry
-French 1(my elective)
-Spanish 3 Honors(Freshman year I got put straight into spanish 2 because i tested out of spanish 1)
-African American History Honors
-English 2 Honors
-Law(half year)
-Gym(Half Year)
also my GPA is a 3.70 as of right now.... Is that a good GPA?

Is grade 9 Hard??? Exams?

Ninth grade is different. My experience is that many of my students have been spoon feed through 8th grade. That doesn't happen in high school. HS teachers expect you to think! You need to do all of your homework and hand it in on time. Exams are not bad as long as you keep up with all of your work. I would think by now you would have had to do essay. When answering an essay question, be sure that you answer the question. English teachers do not tolerate b*** s***. As far as writing an essay, it takes practice and a lot of it. Your teacher will help you master this.
Cheating--When you cheat, you are cheating yourself. If you have trouble with math and suddenly you get a excellent grade, the teacher knows what you have done. We are not stupid. Sometimes teachers overlook cheating just to get you out of class. In my school, if you are caught cheating, you get a zero for the assignment, test, or quiz. If you are caught a second time, and it doesn't matter what class the cheating takes place, you fail that course for the year.
Remember, you are now at the point where everything counts toward graduation, especially state mandated requirements.
Good Luck!

Is it bad to be in Algebra in 9th grade?

I have had all A's ever since they put me in "average math" and I've always gotten 100%s on tests. The teachers never wanted me to move up though, except for my 8th grade teacher, which was unfortunate because I couldn't move math classes in high school. Any who, I've been looking on the internet and I keep seeing questions about freshmen who are in Algebra 2 and complaining about how they want to move up to Calculus and stuff like that. It makes me feel like I'm stupid, which I'm not (i hope :/). I asked the guidance counselor and they said that they could ask for recommendations from my older teachers and if they were good I could probably take two classes at the same time next year (Geometry and Algebra 2). However I don't want to take two math classes at the same time... ugh...
So is it bad to take Algebra in 9th grade? Do you think it's worth it to take two classes at the same time? Thanks.
