Is it worth it to go to Dental Assisting school?
I'm currently in college taking my general courses before going into a Dental Hygiene program at another college. I was just wondering if people could give me their opinions... Should I finish this semester and then go to Dental Assisting school (certificate program such as ITT Tech, Lincoln Tech, Everest, ect.)? Pros of going: I won't have to wait another year doing general studies before going into Dental Hygiene school because I didn't apply for next fall because I thought I was moving I'll be able to make more an hour than I do now I'll be able to have a real career as opposed to what I do now that is temporary I'll be able to get experience before becoming a Hygienist Cons of going: I'll only be a Dental Assistant for 3 years or so before I finish Dental Hygiene school It's approximately $15,000 to go and I more than likely will not get any financial aid because my mom makes over $100,000 a year It's a certificate program so none of the classes I'll be taking there will have transferable credits. If anyone has actually read this far down and is currently in the dental field could you tell me how much assistants make an hour generally? Any advice or opinions are welcomed and appreciated. Is community college bad if a want to go to dental school?
Right now I'm a junior in high school and i really want to become an orthodontis. However I hear if you go to community college they look down on it. Community college is really cheap and I don't want to be burdened by a lot of school debt but If it's going to mean I won't get into dental school then I'll go to a 4 year university. My plan was to go to CC transfer and take my prerequisites at a university, to save money,then go to dental school. Do you have any suggestions? Is it true that dental schools won't accept people who attended CC? Anything will be helpful. Thanks

How do I become a Dentist after 30 with no prior college education?
One would have to take all of the prerequisites for medical/dental school and achieve in two years a 4.0 average. Then one would have to do exceptionally well on the MCAT or DCAT. Then four years of professional schooling. Although it is rare for a 3 year undergraduate from being accepted to Dental School, I have a friend who got into Dental School with TWO years and a 4.0 for all of his pre-dental courses and a high DCAT.Generally professional schools are reluctant to admit those whitout undergraduate degrees, but they do often take into account the additional maturity that comes from doing other things and being a bit older.
