How much would it hurt to get a tattoo on one's neck or arm?
The neck doesn't feel very good to get tattooed. It's hard to sit in a position that lends itself to getting the neck tattooed, too. I have 3 tattoos on my neck and was glad when it was over.The arms are much different. The inner elbow, outer elbow, and wrists hurt. Up near the armpit or in the actual armpit are terrible, too. Anywhere else on the arms feels like a bad sunburn.

In my experience the rotary is less painful. A 4” circular impulse one at about C6 and the other on my low mid back that is about 10” x 10” at L1 to S1.The small one only took 45 minutes and was a piece of cake. I handle it fairly well.I’m scheduled to start an upper back piece that will be shoulder to shoulder and down to the mid back tattoo. I anticipate some pain especially since I sleep on my back, but tolerable.Each new tattoo is like an extension of who I am. I’m not vain about being able to tolerate tattoo work well, but I’m pleased I can.If it’s what you want to do, take an iPod to distract yourself. I meditate so I can put myself into a meditative state and rise above much of the pain.Don’t stress yourself in anticipation of the pain. It’s not really bad.

Obviously how much a tattoo hurts depends on each person, the mood you're in that day, how the artist works, etc. So people can only give you their own experience. SINCE I ACTUALLY HAVE A LARGE TATTOO IN THE AREA (though I'm female), I can speak that it's not really all that terrible. My tattoo runs from the top of the pubic mound, across almost the whole surface and right down to the top of the cleft, so this is no teeny tiny piece of work. I would much rather get another pubic tattoo than to tattoo the tops of my feet again. If you pinch up a little bit of skin in the area between your fingernails and squeeze, that's about as badly as tattooing could hurt. It may even hurt a little less. It definately hurt less than plucking out pubic hairs. Yes the area was rather tingly and there were a few areas of shooting referral discomfort, but it was nothing that would deter me from having it done again. As for it being gross or awkward to get done? I took a shower beforehand and my tattoo artist didn't bat an eye when I indicated where I wanted my tattoo. Tattoo artists have seen or heard about most things under the sun and a pubic tattoo is not going to shock them. Tattoos don't neccessarily hurt more over bone. They hurt more over areas where you body has lots of nerve endings. Your body puts nerves in vulnerable places that are easily injured so you will protect them by instinct. For example ankle bones are delicate and your body wants you to be careful with them. So it covers the area in nerves to alert you when it's been whacked or is getting tiny needles shoved into thousands of times a minute. Not all of how much a tattoo hurts has to do with how well padded an area is, but more to do with how the spot is wired.

Pain is relative. I tend to have a high pain tolerance. What hurt for someone, may not hurt for me; vice versa. I have tattoos on both my wrists and forearms and I didn't feel much pain at all. Well I don't have a scrotum, but I used to work at a tattoo shop and one night I got into a long conversation with a guy who is in the process of getting a full body suit. And I mean a full body suit. He had cancer and had a really nasty scar from the surgery and started tattooing to cover up the scar and just kept going. Anyways, when he told me that he had his entire genitalia covered, I asked what the pain was like and he said it was actually almost painless. I've heard/read from other people that it was very easy to handle/almost painless but those wern't from people I met in person.

your lips are very sensitive, it wont hurt as much as the stitches, however there will be alot more needle punctures with a tatoo than for stitches in a lip.. so less intense but more of them. Ask them to put on a topical anaesthetic cream like emla or lignocaine jelly beforehand!?
