How Old Do I Look Best Answer For The Best Advice

What advice would a 70 or 80 year old person give about the way the life should be lived?

If I may, I would like to add to what Dan Maloney wrote, especially regarding his advice to “Act happy.”My father acted happy throughout his life. He had many friends, and he lived just past the age of 90. Not only did he act happy, he went out of his way to help others, including being a Boy Scout Leader for many years. I tend to take after him, almost always with a smile on my face, and I would certainly say that my life has been blessed with good fortune overall, with a few potholes along the way for contrast.I’ve endeavored to set a good example for those closest to me—especially my children, and on several occasions I’ve attempted to understand, and even explain, why acting happy works. Prior to the study of the wisdom of Kabbalah, the best explanation I could come up with was the concept of fate called Karma, as in: “What goes around comes around. Now, I know that acting is serious business because it’s a law of nature, i.e., a force that operates much like the force of gravity. (We may not understand it, but it’s always there.) The habit of acting in a certain way becomes second nature, until we’re unable to act any other way because it brings us pleasure. If you combine acting happy with acting favorably toward others—for example, by not spreading negatives about others as Dan mentions, then you have a winning “recipe” for happiness. This is because the sensation of happiness emerges as a result of feeling that you’re in a correct social environment, i.e., a supportive and balanced one.Hopefully, I’ve whetted your appetite to explore this matter more, as it is indeed a way to influence your fate. What’s the best advice your mom has given you?

"Think big. Dream big. Success is not about the value of your assets or your income--it's about unleashing your full potential to achieve your dreams. Take advantage of your youth and explore everything you possibly can until you find out who you are and what you want. But most importantly, there is no substitute for hard work." - my mom.

Easy advice to understand, but very difficult to apply. =P

I'm 15 and look 12 any advice?

You either learn to deal with it or you crumble under the pressure. I've been dealing with this ever since I was old enough to understand it, even before then. When I was 11 people thought I was 6. I'm almost 24 years old and people mistake me for a preteen, that is because I'm short (4'11) and I have a smaller build. I also was cursed with the baby face syndrome and it also doesn't help that I'm way too small to fit in clothes for the women's section so I'm stuck buying junior clothing. I don't mind it most times because the women's clothes are so boring and plain. To be honest there are people out there that will either misunderstand or just be so plain rude you wonder how they are even still alive on this planet. I've had random people come up to me while I'm out doing everyday things asking me how old I am, if I'm old enough to be traveling alone, shoot one time I even had an old man tell me I look like a little kid when I walked into a gas station to pay for my gas, that isn't even the worst of it, I one time had a middle aged woman tell my husband he was a pedophile for being with me and that was AFTER I told her how old I was. People have no sense of decency or respect. Those days are long gone and people are only getting worse. The way I deal with it is I find some feelings of accomplishments in my life. What makes you feel proud? I like working out at the gym because it makes me feel accomplished and like I achieved something. It also helps that I can lift up my shirt and ask "what 12 year old has a stomach like this?" haha. The best advice I can give to you is to experiment with make up, certain looks can make you look older, doing your hair a certain style (straight for me) helps, and if you want to just wear heels. Also how are you at conversating with people? I had one older woman mistake me for being 19 when I started speaking to her. It was because of how I spoke to her. Most kids now a days just have an uppity attitude and want to talk about nonsense like drugs and alcohol or boys. As people age they start talking about more adult topics like college, careers, and finances. You may be too young still to worry about these kinds of things but just keep this in mind when you get older.

How can a bald man look younger?

Firstly, shave it all off and keep it all off. No head hair. No nose hair. No ear hair. No neck hair. Trimmed eyebrows. If you have back hair, get it waxed. If you’re too bushy anywhere else (anywhere!), trim it down or wax it. You can have a very trim beard around your chin and upper lip or something similar if you can find five women you know who say they like it. Also dye it if you’re older. Some grey is good. All white is bad. Groom your head everyday.Secondly, get some color. If you’re a pasty white dude, get a slight tan.Thirdly, if your teeth are a mess, fix them. You want clean, white teeth with little to nothing wrong with them.Fourthly, if you don’t have a morning and evening cleaning and moisturizing ritual, develop one. The minimum you want is to clean your face and moisturize. You can add a bunch of other steps in there too if you want.Point five, get manicures, hands and feet, and keep them clean and neat.Point six, always carry lip balm and use it often. Always carry mints and use them. Always have some good cologne and use it (sparingly!).Point seven, look at your wardrobe with a critical eye. Find some women to help you. Nothing says old like old clothes. Look at what younger men are wearing for a guide.Point eight, look at your posture and demeanor with a critical eye. Stand tall at all times. Face people and look them in the eye when you engage them. And so on.Point nine, get a younger woman as a partner. If you’re worried about sexual performance, see your doctor about viagra or cialis.Point ten, hang out with younger people.Point eleven, get active. Join a gym. Start jogging. Do some rock climbing. And lastly, if there is something about your face that screams old, like bags under the eyes or loose skin under your chin or deep wrinkles or whatever, consider seeing a plastic surgeon for some options.Good luck!

What is the best advice for a startup applying to Y Combinator?

PG has posted detailed advice about applying on the YC website: http://ycombinator.com/howtoappl...The most general piece of advice is that the stage we invest at, we're really looking to assess the people/team rather than the idea itself.  With that in mind, we ask ourselves some of these questions:- Do they get stuff done? This is probably the most important quality we look for, far more important than your school or other credentials.  You can show this quality by telling us what stuff you've built in the past and having a prototype/some demo of what you're working on now.- Will they be persistent? Startups are tough and at this early stage, one of the big causes of failure is a co-founder leaving to join bigco or heading back to grad school. Give us examples of where you've been persistent and not given up, convince us you're not going to flake.- Do they have a co-founder? We'll rarely invest in single founder teams unless there's something really compelling (Drew Houston from Dropbox applied as a single founder). But don't just pick anyone as a co-founder, we want to see that you're both equally committed and are ready to work on a startup together.- Are they good people? This is harder to be specific/definite about and probably applies more to the interview stage but a common trait amongst YC founders is that they're always described as good people.  We spend a lot of time with founders during YC, there's over 70 hours of interaction at just dinners - not even including office hours (when startups come in and talk to us about what's going on that week) or other YC events. We're not looking for people exactly like us, we've invested in a huge diversity of people, only things that matter are being hard-working and good people.Feel free to ping me, harj at ycombinator.com with any other questions.
