How Old Do You Have To Be To Stay In The House Alone

How old were you when your parents let you stay home alone overnight?

I am 17 years old. I have a job, I recently graduated beauty school and recieved my cosmetology license, I am currently a sophmore in college and my parents still wont let me stay home alone for one night. In less 8 months I will be an adult, I'm transferring to a university that is three hours away and apparently that is the first time I'll be able to be alone. Despite all of the absolute responsibility and control I have shown, I am still treated like a punk kid. My curfew is usually right around 11:30 and I usually show up around 15 minutes early. What can I do to convince my parents that I'm not a little kid anymore and I can be trusted

What age should a child stay home alone?

My daughter will be 8 next month and she has brought up the idea of being home alone after school. She is very mature for her age and I'm not concerned with her being afraid. I am 3 minutes away at work (if I hit EVERY red light) we live in a condo so there are lots of neighbors that we know in case of an emergency. The maximum amount of time she would be left alone is 1 1/2 hours. She knows how to dial 911 and we have all numbers posted that would be needed. I was about her age when I would walk home alone from school and stay there for 2 hours by myself. (She would be taking the bus which drops her off in front of the house.) And she would of course call me the second she got home. With all this being said, she is still only 8. I live in NY and there's no age guideline for when a child can be alone. I am considering "test runs" where I go to the store...or the gym (both closer than work) and leaving her for shorter time periods over the summer and slowly working up to 1 1/2 hrs. Is this too young to start?

How old do you have to be to stay home alone with no parent or guardian?

There is no legal age limit for leaving a child on their own, but it is an offence to leave a child alone if it places them at risk. Parents can be prosecuted if they leave a child unsupervised ‘in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health’ (Children and Young Person’s Act).

How mature is the child?

The most important factor to consider is how mature the child is. For example, it may be okay to leave a mature 12 year old alone, but not a 13 year old who is not mature.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) advises that:

* children under the age of about 12 are rarely mature enough to be left alone for a long period of time
* children under the age of 16 should not be left alone overnight
* babies, toddlers and very young children should never be left alone

But most guidelines say they shouldn't leave you if you are under the age of 12, and should not be left overnight until they are 16.

Would you let your 15 year old daughter stay home alone for a week?

Absolutely not. I can't think of a a reason to leave a 15 yr old at home alone for 7 days. 1. If there is a vacation involved, the 15 year old should be going along. 2. If it's business, why are both parents going. You say you live in one of the safest towns in the US. Does this town have it's own police department? Why? Because there IS crime everywhere. How many times have you seen on the news a murder in a small town that shocked the entire area? People on tv say, "Things like this never happen around here". Well guess what, it does. I would rather the house to be empty and my daughter stay with a friend and her family. Maybe an Aunt or older (>21) cousin can stay at the house while the parents are gone. It's not that I wouldn't trust my daughter. I would not trust anyone else outside my circle of friends and family.

Can I stay home alone overnight ?

The state doesn't regulate the exact age children can be left alone for any length of time.

Parents are supposed to use common sense and gauge the situation for themselves.

What is the legal age for a child to stay home alone in Nevada?

In most states, there is no legal age which has been established by statute as to when a child can be left alone. If you believe that a child is being put in danger by being left alone at home, you can contact Children's Protective Services at the Family Independence Agency and make a referral. The agency will then investigate the matter.
NRS 432B.040 “Child” defined. “Child” means a person under the age of 18 years.

NRS 432B.140 Negligent treatment or maltreatment. Negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child occurs if a child has been abandoned, is without proper care, control and supervision or lacks the subsistence, education, shelter, medical care or other care necessary for the well-being of the child because of the faults or habits of the person responsible for his welfare or his neglect or refusal to provide them when able to do so.
