How Old Do You Have To Be To Work At Petco

How old do you have to be to work at Petco?

The best way to find out would be to call your local Petco and ask them. Different stores have different requirements. I would assume though that you have to be at least 16 to work there. However, the local pet store near me requires you to be at least 18. I would assume this is because any animal can strike out and harm you, under 18 puts you at more of a liablity.

How old do you have to be to work in Petco?

Last time I heard it was 18 but that may have changed now... Most places in the u.s. will not hired below 15 years of age. They pay around $7.00-8.00/hr to start depending on what you will be doing there.

I would recommend asking you neighbors if they would like dog walking or bathing services. That way you can make a little money and still get to play with animals (I'm assuming you are an animal lover since you want to work at a pet store).

How old must you be to work at Petco or Petsmart?

I prefer people who can answer from experience, such as employees who work there already. :)

I'm 15 1/2 and am starting to look for places to work. I'm willing to wait to apply for jobs once I'm 16, though; but I'm still looking around.

I have many hours of animal experience from volunteering at the local shelter, volunteering at Petco, and fostering dogs for rescue groups. I work with dogs and cats every Saturday, have raised fish for 3 years, owned two ferrets in the past, and feel like I'm qualified for the position.

So, how old must I be?

Thank you. :)

If it makes any difference, I live in Arizona.

How old do you need to be to work at Petco?

Well according to CA child labor laws, you can work pretty young, at 14, but it is required that you get a work permit if you are less than 18. http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/CLLPamphlet20... (see page 24 out 75)

As for Petco, just reading through their online job applications say they want you to have a GED or HS diploma or have basic math skills and above average communication skills (part-time sales associate). Your best bet would be to call Petco and ask them. I'd say usually they would probably only hire 16 and up because you could have a drivers license and get to work. They'd probably hire a 15 year old if you had a lot of knowledge and you were above par. It would also depend on if they have you doing heavy lifting or something like that. If so, you probably wouldn't be able to work there.

Like I said, best bet is to just call up a Petco and ask them.

Hope that helps!

How old do you have to be to work at Petco or PetSmart? All information varies between the ages of 16 and 18.

To work in Petsmart, you MUST be 18. If you want to handle any less dangerous job, then a cashier would usually be the best fit for a minor. But I would ask the associates or a manager at your nearest store & verify. At my store, all of the associates are 18 years of age or older.I started working at Petsmart in 3–4 months after graduating high school. If you wait till you graduate, you have a higher chance of acceptance (especially with a diploma). And if you’ve had any past experiences with animals (i.e; volunteer work at an animal shelter) that will also increase your chances.

How old do you have to be to work at Petco or Petsmart?

Any petstore would not allow you to work there due to the risk of getting bitten.
The workers around you at pet-stores are rather careless and often rude, and you are constantly around unhealthy, lonely and sad animals, it is not a warm and friendly environment to work in.

How old do you have to be to work in PetCo or Pet Supermarket?

Depends state to state. Some states you can work as young as 14 if you have "working papers" They do not have specific age minimums, that would be illegal. If you want to know but are afraid of jeopardizing your chances just by asking then call another Petco in your area but not the one you want to work at and ask. Be forewarned though that it's really hard to get a job in this economy - especially when you tell them you only want to work for a few months. If you want experience and don't really need the money consider volunteering at a shelter, a zoo, a sanctuary or even at your vets office. Then you would have references for next summer when you are older. You would also have experience with a variety of animals and hopefully some customer service skills.

Good luck
