How Old Were You When You Learned The

How old were you when you learned to ride a bicycle? Do you have your own bicycle? Did you remember who taught you to ride a bicycle? Did you have a bad bicycle accident?

My mom took my training wheels off when I was five. No one taught me, I just rode around with training wheels and rode so much the arms holding the training wheels were bent so both were about 4″ off the ground when I was going straight. That convinced my mother to take them off.Now they have push bikes with no pedals that are much better to learn on. I have seen kids as young as 18 months riding push bikes and as young as 2 years riding pedal bikes.Evel Knievel was my hero as a kid and I have been injured multiple times. The first was when I did a wheelie and my front wheel flew off! I was 6 and my mom fixed my flat tire but didn't tighten the axle bolts enough.I went on to race BMX, ride halfpipe and eventually race downhill mountain bikes. Lot's of injuries! All worth it though.

How old were you when you learned to ride a bicycle?

I was probably 5 the first time I pinched my big brothers’ Schwinn and decided to go for a ride.I could wobble along okay, but I needed a curb to start and stop. The street I was on had curbs up on the sidewalk at the foot of peoples' front lawns, so I was pretty safe. That, and in 1948, there was no traffic to speak of.I had taken off from one of these curbs and was underway when I came to the intersection and was faced with going over the corner curb into the roadway.A businessman stopped in the intersection, honked his horn, and waved his hand impatiently for me to proceed across in front of him, and I slowly and carefully thunked down into the roadway, and started across. He must have forgotten about the little kid on the big bike, because when I was halfway across, he ran over me with his Buick. The heavy car knocked me over and bent the bicycle frame around me like a cage, protecting me and bearing all the weight of the car.He could no longer see me ( I was under the Buick) and didn't know what he had run over that had stopped his car, so he backed off of me… and RAN BACK OVER ME.That's when a lady watching out her livingroom window, screamed so loudly, it caught the attention of the guy in the car, and he backed off of me for the second, and hopefully, final time.Red Reeves, a motorcycle cop, responded to the scene of the attempted squishing, carried me to the hospital, where they examined me and found no real damage. That big steel Schwinn had protected my dumb little ass like a momma bear, wrapping itself around my body. It saved my life. Twice, if you count running over me the second time. This is how unlitigious the United States used to be: Mr. Business Man, paid the hospital bill and bought my family a new Schwinn. That's it. No law suit. The next year my father took me over to the deserted Junior High School campus on a Saturday, and taught me to ride a bike.

How old were you when you learned algebra 1?

I used to study under West Bengal state board. Algebra was introduced first when we were in class 6 that means i was 10–11 years old then.We were taught basic algebra like positive, negative numbers, framing equations using x etc. Algebra is very easy and i have seen students to cope up with algebra faster than arithmetic. We were taught to solve some harder problems in arithmetic in difficult ways which could have been solved in an easier manner using algebra.

How old were you when you learned how to drive?

Well, I think I was about 2yo when dad sat me on his lap and I hung onto the steering wheel. By 3yo I was standing on the back seat cushion and looking over the front seat watching every move. I listened to the engine rpm and watched when dad would push in the clutch and shift the “three on the tree”. By about 4yo he would let me shift the car as he worked the peddals. I could also steer the car while sitting in his lap. At about 5 I was driving the tractor alone around the field. By 6yo dad took me onto a frozen lake and taught me how to start without spinning the wheels and stop without sliding. He taught me how to counter steer if the car started to go sideways. He taught me how to spin the car around, recover and keep going in the original direction. He taught me how to drive backwards, spen the car around, shift into 2nd gear and keep going forward. These were invaluable skills for someone living in Minnesota where there is a lot of ice and snow. By 7yo I was alowed to drive the country roads from my uncles house to my grandmothers house alone.

How old were you when you learned how to ride a bike?

I learned at 5 years old... I would say making it to 13 would be truly embarrassing to not know how to right a bike.

7 - 8....

How old were you when you first learned and heard the F word?

I learned that word when i was 2 but it was spoken fluently around my house. Now days the word is thrown around so much around kids and as sickening as it may seem there is really nothing we can do or say about how other people raise their children, My nephew learned the word and started using it constantly at about one and a half and i aint proud of it but then again i have no real say in how he is brought up seeing as that he is my sister's child and i cannot tell her how to raise him. When i am around my friends children i try not to curse and if i hear them using those words i tend to let them know that those are not good words to say and that i do not approve of them.

Parents, how old were YOU when you learned about sex?

I can remember my mom telling me about periods when I was 5 or 6. She explained that women have periods so they can have babies. I knew from about the age of 4 where babies came from...the basics of where they came out and that it takes a mom & dad to make a baby. However, I didn't learn the "mechanics" of everything until I was about 8 or 9.

My knowledge on the subject came from various sources. Friends and tv for the most part, and then finally my mom told me what sex *actually* is. The stuff I had learned about it wasn't exactly correct lol

How old were you when you learned "the facts of life" and who told you?

Source: Photo by Louise D. Jewell (My first ever time kayaking! 2014)Mom’s voice called out from the livingroom, “Louise, come in here. I’m talking to your sister about the birds and the bees. You can listen too.” I stopped dead in my tracks. I broke out into a cold sweat.“Yech,” I blurted. “I’m not listening to that yucky stuff.” And with that, out the door I fled. My mother’s reprimand trailed behind me, “Louise! Don’t be so stubborn.”You see, I had no time for all things related to boys and sex. I was a ten year old kid who just wanted to live her life. Her way.All I wanted was to climb up my favourite tree and curl up with my Nancy Drew Mysteries Stories book and read. My idea of pleasure was reading, running and racing down the hill on skis. Two years later, I looked down and saw blood on my underwear. I cried out in horror, “Mom! I’m bleeding to death,” Mom rushed into the bathroom, took one look and laughed. “Louise! You’re a woman now!”Life as I knew it crashed before my eyes. “No! Mom, I don’t want this.”“Well, you can’t stop it, Louise. You’re going to bleed every month now.” Her voice took a somber tone,“And you need to be careful; you now can have babies.”I gagged in response. Did Mom just say babies? I had three younger siblings and I recall them being babies at one time or another. I had no interest in babies.“But I just want to climb my tree, Mom! How am I going to do that when I’m bleeding all over the place?” I imagined my little brother climbing up behind me and blood dripping on his face. Yep. I had a vivid imagination.Mom shook her head and pursed her lips, “You need to stop climbing trees and start acting like a lady.” And then she proceeded to show me how to attach a sanitary napkin to a hideous white sanitary belt.I hugged my tree and said goodbye. My life as I knew it had changed forever.Fast forward:I married in my early twenties and later gave birth to two beautiful babies. They are now 30 and 31 years old. My grandbaby will soon turn 3. My life is richer since they entered into my life.I went into premature menopause at the age of 30 (non surgical). That was a happy day for me. I only wished I could climb a tree once again! No matter. I’ve got all sorts of other fun things I can do. Whoever said the little girl in me died that day was wrong. I am alive and so is she. It’s called, “child-like wonder.”Posted October 7, 2018.________Question answered: How old were you when you learned "the facts of life" and who told you?
